Skinny Jeans Cause Nerve Damage? That's Just Great

Filed under: Style in the News, Jeans

Think it's time for baggy boyfriend jeans to be the "it" jean? Let's hope so, because according to this article, medical experts are seeing a rise in the number of women with nerve damage in their legs -- and skinny jeans are to blame!

Apparently there is a nerve that runs down the side of your leg and, as the article quotes New Orleans neurologist Dr. John England, "Anything that is tight around there could potentially compress the nerve that goes there."

(Oh, and wearing high heels only makes it worse because of the unnatural way they push your pelvis forward. What else are we wearing that's bad for us?)

Women have reported tingling sensations in their legs and -- in some cases -- full-on numbness. The symptoms are temporary and when you take off the jeans things should return to normal, but still -- kinda creepy!

Here's the big question:

If you know your skinny jeans could cause your leg to go numb does that make you think twice about wriggling into them? Or do you not care?

Kris Allen's Lucky Pair of Jeans?

This week, Kris Allen totally dodged a bullet on "American Idol." The "dark horse" contestant managed to come out of nowhere to prevent the seemingly inevitable face-off between Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert. With this turn of events, it comes down to Kris and Adam.

Sure, Kris is a great singer, but is that what really made the difference? We think Kris' come-from-behind win is a sign that America likes his style.

If we had to pinpoint exactly what gave Kris Allen the edge, we'd say it was his lucky jeans. Not Lucky Brand jeans, mind you -- we mean jeans that actually worked as a good luck charm.

Is Jessica Alba Pulling a Jessica Simpson?

Filed under: Clothing, Jeans, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

.
Apparently, it's not just a first name these two starlets share.

First, Simpson received endless scrutiny over unflattering on stage photos of her wearing Grey Ant's high-waisted Carpenter Jean and now Jessica Alba has been spotted in a similarly questionable cut courtesy of MiH's "Berlin" jean. Could this be the beginning of Jessica Weightgate 2.0?

It seems every time the denim waistbands of Hollywood hotties with any curves at all land somewhere in the Northern Hemisphere, eyebrows follow suit. We think there's something about this Regal Beagle-worthy waistline and wash that screams "Mom jeans!"

Unless, of course, you have the boyish bod of Keira Knightley or Kate Moss. Go figure!

Should curvy women wear this trendy take on denim?

Psychedelic Summer Ahead?

Sometimes following super hip fashion trends feels like we're watching a really jumbled up episode of Quantum Leap, or better, one of this season's Lost episodes. For awhile, we were stuck in the 80's, then we warp back to the early 90's for a few months, and now rumor has it that we're headed back to the psychedelic 60's. Trippy tees, day-glow colors, and yes -- maybe even bell bottoms -- are in some forecasts for summer '09.

Go On a Acid Trip - Tip of the Day!

Filed under: Jeans, Style Tip of the Day

american apparelSo acid wash is back (cue the gasps of horror). When we look back to the 80s, it was certainly a startling trend. But when we look forward, we see nothing but acid wash pared in the most basic of ways and looking ... wait for it ... cute. Yes, cute.

The Dreaded Drop Crotch for Men - Yea or Nay?

Filed under: Runway Trends, Jeans, Men

Corpus grey drop crotch sweatpantsWhile we're not really sure that we'd be doing old-school sheik culture justice by referring to these top-heavy sweatpants as "harem-inspired," the drop crotch look for men is being adopted, or at the very least, pretending to be. According to the rumor mill, Corpus' now infamous drop crotch pants have sold out a few times over at OAK. Even though we're not seeing them with any regularity outside of fashion blogs, chatter about these extremely comfortable looking, yet unflattering pants has been mighty persistent over the past year.

Jay-Z Says Skinny Jeans Crowd His Knots - The Tight Pants Debate

Filed under: Jeans, Men, Celebrities with Style

Jay-Z raps at the 2009 Grammy AwardsIf you watched Sunday night's 2009 Grammy Awards -- or you happened to flip past CBS at exactly the right moment like we did -- you got to see the most star-studded hip hop group since NWA performing a remixed version of "Paper Planes," entitled "Swagga Like Us." The show-stopping jam featured verses by Kanye West, Lil' Wayne, T.I., Jay-Z, and M.I.A -- but it was one of Jay-Z's rhymes that is sparking controversy in the world of hipster fashion, "no one on the corner/got a bop like this/don't wear skinny jeans/'cause my knots won't fit."

Tom Ford in a tuxedoNot to be left out of the parade of designers launching exorbitantly overpriced fashion items in the middle of a downward spiraling financial crisis, Tom Ford is seizing the moment to roll out his new $990 jeans. While it's true, they hardly rival the $43,000 Brioni suit launched this month -- for blue jeans they're still sky high. So what exactly is so special about these jeans ? Does the term jeans still apply when you're talking about $990 denim trousers?

Naked & Famous - Cool Jeans, New Suits

Some artists are trained that an unclothed human form is nude; but to be naked, the subject must bear his/her soul. We love Naked & Famous because it's raw. Not just that there's untreated denim (there is), but because the entire range is so straight forward in approach. The fabric choices (denim compositions and weights) make Naked & Famous a highly desirable collection. There are jeans in 100% cotton denim, 95% cotton with stretch, cashmere/denim, silk/denim and a limited edition of 37 Hank-dyed with natural indigo.
