Go On a Acid Trip - Tip of the Day!

Filed under: Jeans, Style Tip of the Day

american apparelSo acid wash is back (cue the gasps of horror). When we look back to the 80s, it was certainly a startling trend. But when we look forward, we see nothing but acid wash pared in the most basic of ways and looking ... wait for it ... cute. Yes, cute.

Be A Material Girl All Over Again - Tip of the Day!

Filed under: Accessories, Clothing, Style Tip of the Day

MadonnaMany designers pulled from the '80s for recent runway inspiration – Balmain, Chanel, and Pucci included. All of the mesh, gloves, sequins, tulle, corsets, and studded leather come directly from the garish decade; a time when a drugged up Madonna, Flock of Seagulls haircuts, and hydra glow t-shirts ruled the world.

Drew Barrymore in Lanvin - I Want That!

drew barrymoreSo, about Drew Barrymore's new look ... We had a hard time with her blonde "Josie Grossie" Golden Globes 'do. But after some thought, we remembered that Drew is a complete '80s child at heart. And with the recent resurgence of the '80s in fashion, we realized she's just reliving those glory days with the hair, poufy prom dresses and whatnot. We think it's sort of endearing and no matter what, she's always the cutest!

Katie Holmes, Tom CruiseAlthough we couldn't find any photos of Katie not clinging to husband Tom Cruise (lame), we did think she looked supremely stunning in this sparkly gown and strappy sandals. Tom sure likes 'em tall, doesn't he?

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrities with Style, Get the Look

Chloe Sevigny's clothing line is just what you'd expect: FUG-tastic

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

Chloe Sevigny has designed a clothing line for Opening Ceremony. You know, because she always looks so great on the red carpet. And Gary Busey is sane and Paris Hilton is classy.

I mean, yes, I get it -- Chloe Sevigny loves the '80s and early '90s the way Sharon Stone loves to wear dead animals. And both are horrible crimes against nature. And, you know, I understand that we can't control her when she makes public appearances -- that's for a stylist, or an alligator wrestler, or someone more daring than myself to handle. However, allowing the girl to design clothes that other people are supposed to wear? She must be stopped.

I looked through the collection, and I think I found a pair of shoes I might wear. In the yard. If I was sure none of my neighbors would stop by. I also saw a few pieces that scream "Laura Ashley's Ladies of the Night." Good grief -- a woman should never have to worry about whether a rose pattern on her leggings makes it look like she has camel toe. Say it with me now ... SexAY!

How to wear neon (because it's like, totally back)

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Jeans, Dresses

According to the Glamour Fashion Blog (and apparently Parisian women), neon colors are back -- specifically acid green. I don't know about you, but I remember this trend from the first time around. Fortunately, at that point, I was tan, blonde, thin ... and a kid, and therefore I didn't really care about whether it was flattering. I only cared that it was cool.

My sense of personal style has evolved (somewhat) since then, and while I'm actually kind of excited about neon colors being acceptable again, I'm also nervous about how to wear them. I'm pretty sure acid green isn't the most flattering color for me.

The return of the scrunch boot

zanotti scrunch bootsIt looks like we are in for another season of cowboy boots. Fall fashion catalogs still seem to be pushing the trend. But something more heinous is on the horizon. The scrunch boot is back. The scrunch boot was part of the scrunch fever of the 1980s where everything had to be pushed up or pulled down in some casual artless way. They've been slowly making their way back into fashion for a while but with the return of the legging it seemed inevitable that the scrunch boot would reach new levels of prominence. The scrunch is about as foot flattering as the Ugg. The python-embossed boots from Guiseppe Zanotti sell for $1745 and can be worn to the knee or in full scrunch mode. I'm not wild about them when they are scrunched down but they are a bit fabulous when fully pulled up to show off the python design.
