Debra Davenport's Spring 2009 collection at Los Angeles Fashion Week

Debra Davenport's Spring 2009 collection, shown during L.A. Fashion Week, was exceedingly wearable. It was also a bit scattered. Davenport took cues from Cynthia Rowley and Nanette Lepore, featuring floral, citrus and vibrant green fabrics. But the through line was lost somewhere between 1950s Euro chic and lady pirate.

Get the look: Loose braid chignons at Venexiana show

Filed under: Runway Trends, Hair Cut and Style

Whenever we see elaborately casual updos on models, like at the Venexiana by Katie Stern 2009 runway show, we imagine an army of tiny fingered elves working for hours to achieve that perfect combination of texture and twist. And then we wistfully sigh and imagine how cool it would be to have our own hair elves.

The reality is much more simple, and in a way, more exciting because you can (sort of) get it at home. All it takes is a good flat iron, and some fake hair. Oh, also it helps to have the mad skills of the stylist team of Karmela Lozina and Jutta Weiss from the famous Sahag Workshop.

Lozina and Weiss used the Linea-Pro Titanium flat iron to make the models' hair smooth and shiny, and then added detail with the so-covetable new Linea-Pro Mini Iron -- it's tiny, but still has the famous titanium plates -- to create the appearance of casual texture around fake-hair braids.

In the gallery, get the scoop on how the masters of style used these tools to create fairy-tale hairstyles, no elves necessary.

New York Fashion Week: Herve Leger swimwear

Herve Leger, cult maker of those impossible-to-walk-in bandage dresses, unveiled its Spring '09 collection at fashion week on Sunday.

Designed by Max Azria, who acquired the company in 1999, the collection was everything you might expect from a brand name that's synonymous with sex appeal.

This year, some of the standout pieces were the slashed-up swimsuits, in shades of rose, black and electric tangerine.

If these suits work the same wonders as Leger's minidresses, we expect sales to go swimmingly.

Gifts for the OCD: the Bubble Calendar

We just found out about this poster sized calendar, with a bubble to pop for every day. We are nearly speechless with desire and obviously we're not we're not alone because 2008 is completely sold out.

This is a serious sized calendar at 48"x18" and it comes in both landscape and horizontal orientations. The font is designer classic Helvetica Neue. US holidays are marked and weekends are set in bold to make it easy to see them.

You can order it printed on 100 lb glossy paper for $29.95 or get a limited edition printed on clear acetate for $49.95.

And did we mention you get to pop a bubble every single day? How have we lived this long without this?

Leave your Monk jokes in the comments. We don't care. We'll be popping virtual bubble wrap while we wait breathlessly for our our 2009 calendar to arrive.

Spanish designer Joseph Font pays tribute his heritage

Filed under: Style in the News

When cultural flavor is thrown into the mix in fashion, we almost always love the end results. Designers paying tribute to their heritage is a beautiful thing. Joseph Font, of Spain, has done just that with the Fall-Winter 2009 Haute Couture collection he showed today in Paris.
