Sofia Coppola design shoes, handbags for Louis Vuitton

Filed under: Handbags, Shoes, Celebrities with Style

Sure, she won an Oscar for directing Lost in Translation, but can Sofia Coppola's celluloid skills translate into the world of fashion? Apparently, Louis Vuitton is willing to take the risk on her sartorial skills, they're letting her design a range of shoes and handbags that will be launched in Tokyo -- ironically the setting of her acclaimed film -- and the sold in luxury stores worldwide.

Of course, we already know that LV and the Coppolas are BFFs ever since Sofia and her father posed for Annie Leibovitz for LV's "core values" campaign. But that doesn't appear to be the only reason the French luxury designer tapped Sofia for the project. Apparently, Sofia has a background in fashion design that dates back to her pre-film days. After graduating from the California Institute of Arts, Coppola started her own clothing line named Milk fed, which, appropriately enough, is sold exclusively in Japan.

Sean Connery is the new old face of Louis Vuitton

When Louis Vuitton first launched their Keith Richards "Core Values" ads, we thought that they might be trying to make a connection between leathery skin and their fine leather luggage. Now, we get it. With age comes retirement, retirees travel -- hence they might want to blow their pension on a piece of LV luggage. That, plus the fact that the latest installment of James Bond films is hitting theaters this fall, must explain why Louis Vuitton picked Sean Connery to be their latest spokesperson.

Just in time to coincide with the premiere of Quantum of Solace, Louis Vuitton will be banking on the original James Bond's old time good looks. Connery was recently voted one of the "50 Sexiest Men Over 50" by the ladies at WowOwoW.com. Hmm, we think he kinda looks like a hairy leprechaun, but he should dress up nice in the LV campaign. Because, according to WWD, Annie Leibovitz was behind the lens, and we all know that she can work some photo magic.

Annie Leibovitz in serious debt

Earning $2 million dollars a year isn't enough to cover Annie Leibovitz' bills. Word on the street is that famous photographer to the stars now owes $715,000!

Vogue: Lebron and Gisele cover controversy

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Celebrities with Style

Who would have thought that just a month after Vogue was patting itself on the back from breaking down racial barriers by inviting Lebron James to be the first black man ever to grace the magazine's cover, the editors at Vogue would be taking fire for being racially insensitive? The cover, as many people pointed out -- including us here at Styledash -- featured the superstars in a pose that reminded us of Jane and Tarzan. Now, I do agree that the cover does kinda suck, but mainly on the grounds of taste.

The controversy is not over whether or not the cover looks stupid -- because it definitely does -- but whether the cover perpetuates racial stereotypes by depicting Lebron as a huge hulking beast of a man that resembles King Kong holding Fay Wray captive. Fay Wray in this case would be Gisele.

Gisele's ad campaign for Disney?

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Supermodel Gisele Bundchen is best-known for two things: hair and boobs.

(The model once confessed she never would have made it in the fashion industry were it not for these assets. Touché!)

Nevertheless, the Brazilian bombshell stars in an upcoming advertising campaign for decidedly unsexy company: Disney. The Where the Imagination Saves the Day worldwide campaign features Annie Leibovitz photographs of Gisele dressed as Wendy from Peter Pan.

Gisele isn't the only sexy star to pose for Disney's latest marketing blitz; Scarlett Johansson, David Beckham and Beyonce also signed onto Disney-fied photos.

So lets get this straight: Gisele is Wendy; Scarlett is Cinderella; Becks is Phillipe, and Beyonce is Alice.

Is it just me or does this ad campaign seem appeal to a slighter older Disney demographic?
