Shoes of the day - Magenta Origami Ballet Flats

We love these adorable vegan-friendly ballet flats. They've got an Asian-inspired origami twist on the classic ballet flat, and they're available in three gorgeous color choices: this magical magenta, an eye-catching mustard and classic black. We can't decide which we like best! At only $28, we're tempted to snag all three.

Repetto teams up with Moschino

After collaborating with the likes of Proenza Schouler, Matt Creed, and Brigitte Bardot, there really aren't too many more cool designers/artists Repetto can reach out to in an effort to hook-up those coveted ballet flats of theirs.

Or at least that's what we thought before we heard about the Parisian brand's latest design partner:

According to Fashion Week Daily, Moschino, the young brand with the wicked ads and equally fab sequins tops, has been tapped to create its own special Repetto shoe, where proceeds from the funky flats will go to The Repetto Foundation.

The "Zizi" is what the Moschino shoe will be called and it features "cotton peach blossom with a canvas silk leaf from the 1950s creates a sense of retro beauty." Uh, yeah. As you can see, these aren't for the wall flowers out there. No pun intended, of course.

Shoes of the day: J. Crew Salina patent leather ballet flats

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Must Haves

While flipping through the August issue of British Vogue we came across an article where the writer (a self-proclaimed stiletto addict) reluctantly acknowledges that flats are currently having their moment under the fashion sun. She was forced to wear flats for six months due to a surgical procedure, and she basically admits that it wasn't that bad.

What? WHAT!

Tender toes tout: Adidas Johari ballet flats

We love the look of ballet flats and they are wonderfully convenient when you're traveling through airports -- easy on, easy off at the security checkpoint.

On the other hand, their thin soles can leave your feet feeling unsupported and sore. Plus we prefer something a little more robust, like tennis shoes, when we're trekikng around a new city.

Except, yuck, who wants to look like an ugly tourist in the tennis shoes? If only there was a cute pair of flats with nice cushiony soles...

Going grey can be great!

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Clothing, Shoes, Dresses, Cosmetics

In the 80s, did you have grey jazz shoes? Or are we showing our age? Maybe it's a little fashion nostalgia, but we're kinda into grey again.

This spring grey has been everywhere, from shoes to nails to dresses. We're loving the subtle and sophisticated ways the shade is being used, with creativity far beyond gym shorts and heathered wool sweaters. Grey is showing up in patent leather and organic cotton and everything in between.

When worn right, grey can be incredibly polished and flattering. Of course, some things are still better in color. We draw the line at grey hair -- you'll find us at the salon for regular root touch ups.

Check out the gallery for seven stylish grey selections.

Loeffler Randall rosette flats

Loeffler Randall Rosette Ballet Flats - Rose : Target
Ever since I lost one of my beloved Marc Jacobs ballet flats I have been on search for a replacement pair of shoes. Not just any replacement pair but an inexpensive replacement pair. I am not a flats girl to begin with, so spending another $250 dollars on flat shoes just isn't in the cards. I headed over to Target to check out the Loeffler Randall line to see what all the buzz was about.

I loved the variety of colors the flats came in: metallic rose gold, metallic gold, black patent, and brown patent. I tried on the black patent pair first because the Marc Jacobs shoe I lost was black. The black patent looked great but the plain color made the cool rosette detail on the toe fall flat, so I put them back. Next up was the gold metallic pair -- now we are cooking with oil! I loved the shape, I loved how the rosette detail on the toe popped, and I loved the comfort (too bad they were flats).

These shoes are going fast, there were hardly any left at Target, so if you like them you had better act fast. The shoes run true to size are cost $29.99

Styles that Stick: Ballet Flats

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Vintage and Retro

ballet flats quilted blackI wouldn't be caught dead in flats, unless of course they are ballet flats...

There are certain times when a lady has to put down the stilettos and trade them in for something a little more comfortable: at the airport, on long shopping sprees, on a date with someone really short. Sneakers and flip flops will never do; they have "sloppy" written all over them – reach for something that will stand the test of time.

Pick up a pair of ballet flats.

Ballet flats were inspired by ballet dancers (duh). They were first introduced in France by Repetto, an American company that specialized in dancewear. Another company that we are all familiar with, Capezio, created a pair of patent leather flats with an ankle ribbon back in 1949. Once actresses Audrey Hepburn and Bridgette Bardot began wearing ballet flats in their movies, the trend took off and later became a classic.

Today designers like Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu, Tory Burch, Chloe, even Christian Louboutin have embraced the ballet flat and worked them into their collections. Ballet flats look great with everything from skirts to jeans and are extremely comfortable. Every closet should at least have one pair, preferably black. I personally own a pair of Marc Jacobs ballet flats and it is one of the best purchases I have ever made.

Hollywould Ballerina Flats, would you?

Hollywoud Ballet Flats
Was it two years ago when ballet flats got really popular? Something like that. Designers across the globe took the standard shoes of a ballerina and adopted them into a practical fashion that we can wear and enjoy everyday. Thank goodness for that because now woman don't have to teeter around in sky high heels everyday to look cute.

Designer label Hollywould has designed a pair of ballet flats that will take you back to the bar (get it...haha). These ballet flats look strikingly similar to those you wore as a child, along with a tutu and leotard. Hollywould's 'ballerina' flats come in the Spring's hottest metallic shades of mint, rose, gold and silver. For a romantic look pair these girly flats with a white eyelet dress like this one from Betsey Johnson. If it's a more casual look you crave I would recommend a pair of straight leg or skinny jeans in a lighter wash accompanied by tight fitting white tee and a cropped jacket.

Ballet flats for two left feet

Filed under: Stores We Love, Accessories, Shoes

Have you ever been accused of having two left feet? If you have, in all likelihood the slight was in reference to your dancing abilities, not to your actual feet. But if you should happen to *actually* have two left feet, then you might be in interested in the low cut flats from London Sole. The dainty round-toe flats are created without a specific right or left foot designation, so that the shoes mold to the shape of your foot within minutes of putting them on. It sounds a little bit weird, but the dainty, molded grace of these shoes give these ballet flats a younger, more modern feel.
