Henri Bendel to Strip Down

Filed under: Stores We Love, Accessories, Style in the News, Clothing, Cosmetics

Henri Bendel on Fashionable Fifth Avenue. Photo by Getty Images

Henri Bendel, our favorite brown-and-white striped, high-end department store, is about to drop trou! The famous Fifth Avenue destination (which appeared in "Confessions of a Shopaholic" under a pseudonym and has a recurring role on "Gossip Girl") will cease selling clothing to focus on accessories and beauty products, exclusively.

It's not a total shocker since they are best known for their carefully selected, on-trend trimmings. I mean, it's common knowledge among the fashion set that if you need a hair accessory, you got to Henri Bendel. Period.

But don't fear that the 1895-founded shop is just another victim of the recession; they're actually rolling out six accessories-only stores this summer, featuring Bendel brand gifts (like an $18 box of tea) and HB beauty products.

So the good news, they could be coming to a mall near you!

U*Tique, Luxury Vending Machines Never Looked This Good

U*Tique vending maching in Santa MonicaWhen we were in high school, someone -- without fail -- would always reach into our gym bags while we were working out and steal either our brand new Lancome juicy tube or our beloved Dior 'Lash Out' mascara before the year was out. It got so bad that we actually resorted to hiding our cherished beauty products in our funky New Balance gym shoes.

Yes, if only there had been a U*Tique vending machine inside our locker room so the thief could have bought her own items!

5 Best Beauty Finds of 2008

babyliss mini flatiron from beautychoice.comWe see a lot in this job. Lip stuff, nail polish, hair treatments galore. It's hard to stand out in the onslaught of beauty goodness. But every year there are a few products we fall in love with, products we are grateful to know about, and that we'll be using for years to come.

It was a good year, and picking just five to showcase was hard, but when it comes down it, we have a pretty limited repetoire. There are a few items that we have been harping on -- via Twitter, to strangers at Sephora and whipping out on the bus -- non-stop this year:

Dry shampoo
Mini flatiron
timeBalm
Potion 9
Foot lube

In the gallery, we revisit our love for each of them. Once more, with feeling.

Target's designer makeup lines - Tip of the day!

Filed under: Cosmetics, Style Tip of the Day, Beauty Tips

Admittedly, we are a little bit makeup obsessed. On a normal day, we don't really even wear much makeup but it's just fun to pick out, look at, and know that it is there "just in case."

Thanks to three new collections at Target - JK by Jemma Kidd, NP Set by Napoleon Perdis, and Pixi by Petra Strand - we can pick out as many colors as we want without worrying about budget or that fact we probably won't wear it as often as we'd like.

Tip of the day: The super natural

Filed under: Cosmetics, Style Tip of the Day, Beauty Tips

Though we love a sinful smoky eye, we have been dying for super simple beauty trends. Apparently the beauty goddesses have heard our prayers and have answered with runway shows – Calvin Klein, Prada, Stella McCartney, Valentino -- chock full of au naturale. Heavenly!

Each show had the same qualities in common: fresh, glowing skin and features illuminated by golden and nude palettes.

Get this super natural look in a few easy steps.

Another reason to think of Brad Pitt in the shower

Filed under: Skin Care, Celebrities with Style, Style for a Cause, Green Fashion

You now have a good excuse to think about Brad Pitt while you're in the shower -- the ecologically-minded A-lister is teaming up with Kiehl's Since 1851 to raise money for the JPF Eco System, a part of the Jolie-Pitt Foundation.

All the net profits from sales of Kiehl's Aloe Vera Biodegradable Liquid Body Cleanser will go to JPF Eco System. The cleanser, which will run $16.50 for a 6.8 ounce bottle, will be a permanent addition to the Kiehl's lineup and should bring in $1 million or more for the charity.

100 beauty exclusives at Nordstrom

Filed under: Cosmetics, Fragrance, Skin Care, Daily Obsession

Shoppers of Nordstom's Anniversary Sale, July 18-August 3, know there's great deals across all the departments. Unfortunately, there's also massive crowds, eager for a trip to Deal City.

Our solution: get in on the sale action with a pre-order to lock in exclusive cosmetics and scents from the likes of Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Dior, Trish McEvoy, Shiseido, Viktor + Rolf, Hermes and Kiehl's. The beauty sale is based around items you won't find anywhere else, limited editions, special sets and collectible items.

Pre-orders can be made in store, or via the website, and ship when the sale officially kicks off. So, as if you needed an excuse to pick up Prada's Infusion D'Iris, or Bulgari's Eau Parfumee au Vert Coffret, this looks like the time to make a move.

Tip of the day: My Cover Girl

Filed under: Cosmetics, Style Tip of the Day

For years we've been choosing makeup shades that we think look good. Until My Covergirl came along. By using the interactive website and plugging in hair color, eye color, and skin tone, we got a personalized list of Cover Girl products. Being a little bit wary of the "perfect" match, we order some of the suggestions that the Beauty Consultant made. Low and behold each color transformed us into a natural beauty. We looked like ourselves – only better. Finally! Now our favorite and tip folders are full as is our Covergirl.com shopping cart.

Tip of the day: Cosmetic lifespans

Filed under: Cosmetics, Style Tip of the Day

Many of us gals have been the victim of expired cosmetics. Here's the scenario. After seeing pics of that smokin' gloss we used to wear in high school, we rush to our beauty closet only to open the tube to a rank stank that we don't understand. Most beauty products do not have any smell, or if they do, it is very faint. If you start noticing some product BO, it's because that favorite gloss is dying a slow, bacteria-invested death in that dark, tightly sealed tube. Once the product has peaked, it can cause some pretty gross irritations or infections if used. To avoid all of the above, follow these general toss time guidelines.
