Are cheap shoes a thing of the past?

According to recent research conducted by Mintel, Payless might want to watch its back. The research indicates that over the next five years, the number of shoes purchased each year in the UK is expected to drop by seven percent, according to Manolo the Shoeblogger. And Manolo the Shoeblogger doesn't lie.

And why do I assume that means that cheap shoes are on their way out? Because one-third of the women questioned in the above poll said they now pay more for their shoes, which means that as they make their shoe purchases, they'll be looking for quality over quantity.

What woman do you know who has watched an episode of Sex and the City and not sighed over at least one beautiful pair of designer shoes? Years ago, only a select few were familiar with Manolo Blahnik and Christian Louboutin, and now there are middle-school girls fawning over these sexy heels with the same look in their eyes I had when ogling the members of New Kids on the Block.

Rumor Alert: The Return of Sex and the City?

Filed under: Style in the News

Are you ready for this? According to E!'s Watch with Kristen Sarah Jessica Parker has announced the Sex and the City movie is a go (but if you ask SJP she might just give you a maybe).

In the ET interview, fashion maven Sarah Jessica Parker talks about the launch of her clothing line Bitten (which hits stores today) shortly after she leaks the news that the Sex and the City movie will happen-- saying they are "finally ready."

So what do you all think? Do we really want this movie? When the show announced its end and women all over the world were getting ready to mourn their Sunday ritual maybe- but now aren't we a bit over saturated with repeats on FOX and TBS every five minutes?

What could this movie possibly be about any way... Carrie and the now "big" Big get hitched... yawn. Will Samantha settle down with her hunky boyfriend or will she give that lesbian thing another go. Will Charlotte spend every moment of her life learning Chinese so she can speak to her new baby and ruin her marriage (again). And who even cares about Miranda, she got totally boring towards the end.

Sarah Jessica Parker thinks bloggers who make fun of her fashion line are stupid

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Sarah Jessica Parker thinks all the criticism on blogs of her underwhelming new clothing line is "foolish."

The blogworld's response to the star's line at Steve and Barry's has been decidedly tepid. But during a recent interview with the Minneapolis Star and Tribune, SJP basically called the criticism invalid, saying her clothes are for the everyday woman, and were never intended to impress the fashion industry.

"These clothes are about people all over the country who don't have access to really well made, affordable clothing. It's wonderful that people in the fashion industry can borrow things, and have the money and the financial means, never mind the logistical access to clothes that are very fashionable and of the moment. What's really important is that women in this country, really, really feel good about who they are and that we make things affordable and accessible. So there's no criticism that a person can make about it. It's really important that women in this country have an opportunity to have the things that all of us who do have the financial means can have."

There's more here. I only re-posted the intelligible parts.

What's interesting, is that the women SJP is reaching out to (as if they were some charity case) aren't buying the clothes, and the collection was launched with an exclusive party for the fashion industry.

Sounds like sour grapes to me.

First looks at Bitten, Sarah Jessica Boring?

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Pictures of Sarah Jessica Parker's fashion line, Bitten have hit the web.

Fashionista has a few images from the line and asks the all important question, would you wear it? The line isn't bad, it's just boring, the sort of stuff you pick up on the cheap at Target or the Gap. It is completely wearable but utterly uninspired. The line makes H & M and Forever 21 look cutting edge. My question is, who is the target demographic here? The line looks like it is aimed at the young twentysomething. I was rather hoping that SJP would parlay her fashion cred into something a little edgier and perhaps a touch sophisticated and suited for a woman of her same age range. There is one cute belted black dress outfit that looks promising but the rest is a bit of a snore, go check out the line and let me know if you are smitten by Bitten.
