Tangled Up in Blue

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Dresses, Celebrities with Style, Red Carpet Trends

Yellow was supposed to be the big color this year. But bright blue -- and its first cousins teal and turquoise -- showed up on several guests at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala Monday night, making it look a little bit like a 1985 bridesmaids' gathering. Albeit with a bunch of really lovely bridesmaids.

While these shades of blue can make for stunning dresses, they can still be hard to pull off. Teal, when it veers toward green, can make white skin look pale, and not it a good way. And any shade of blue can be a nightmare to accessorize. Add black shoes and you are headed for the disco. Go light or colored, and, well, you're back in the bridal party.

Happily, these women made blue look beautiful, and certainly appropriate for a cool and rainy spring day.

Brooke Shields adopted spring's one-shoulder look in deep blue, worn with a pair of Wonder Woman-worthy cuffs. Like many other guests, she wore her hair in soft, loose waves.

Cindy Crawford and Donatella Versace both wore shades of blue Versace. Crawford chose matching blue shoes and a blue clutch.

Never one to be left out of a trend, Madonna showed up in a teal headdress.

Katy Perry wore blue as if she meant business.

Blake hearts Alpinestars - Tip of the Day

Filed under: Style Tip of the Day

Leather jacketAlpinestars has been dressing moto and race car drivers for years but dressing Hollywood's hottest starlets? Oh yes. It's happening. Their new line, which they call a cross between "James Dean and Cali surfer," offers a mix of biker inspired geared that has young celebs (think Blake Lively and Kirsten Dunst) on the verge of joining Hells Angels. Okay maybe not joining Hells Angels exactly. More like borrowing some of their leather and studded style.

Blake Lively in Helmut Lang - I Want That!

Blake Lively's bland black and blue outfit really popped when topped with a killer red leather Helmut Lang motorcycle jacket. We really love the roughed up hair and thrown together outfit that says I just rolled around in bed my super hot boyfriend, threw on whatever was lying on my floor and hopped on my motorcycle to make it to this Ray-Ban event. Alright, sometimes making up a story is just more fun that what really happened – I sat in hair and makeup for 2 hours while my stylist picked this out. Blah! We like our version much better!

Which "Gossip Girl" stars were on hand to relaunch Ray Ban's Club Master sunglasses? Most of them, as a matter of fact -- Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, and Ed Westwick stepped out earlier this week to support some of their favorite shades (even if they are too young to remember them the first time they were popular).

Revealing on the Red Carpet

This ladies and gentlemen, is what a superstar looks like: Beyonce wearing the heck out of a deceptively simple looking black turtleneck dress at the Gotham Magazine gala. She's gorgeous!

This is what people are talking about when they praise Beyonce's curves. She looks like a fantasy creation, and even though she is as covered up as possible -- what kind of shoes is she even wearing? No one knows! -- nothing is left to the imagination.

And this is how you put together an outfit for an event. Her hair: striking -- pulled back, out of the way, not fighting with the dress. The only jewelry: bold but simple earrings. She's not even wearing her 18 carat engagement ring, just some shiny red nail polish.

She is, however, wearing 10 pounds of "You're damn right I'm fabulous" attitude, which is what really puts this in the StyleFab history books for us. Sasha Fierce rulz!

Of course, Beyonce isn't the only celeb who goes revealing on the red carpet. The question is: Who pulls it off, and who's revealing too much?

Rose McGowan's barely-there "dress" is a little (OK a lot) too much.

    Getty Images

Keira Knightley's tattered rags look like a stiff breeze could make the actress considerably less decent.

    Getty Images

Someone should've told Gwyneth Paltrow that you can see right through that dress -- and we'd prefer not to.

    Getty Images

That's an interesting place for see-through fabric -- fortunately Teri Hatcher can make anything look amazing.

    Getty Images

Backs are sexy, butt cracks are not -- even when it's Heidi Klum's.

    Getty Images

Tess Smith leaves very little to the imagination with this super-skimpy wrap-dress-thing.

    Getty Images

Anne Hathaway appears to have forgotten something -- it's called a bra.

    Getty Images

Kate Bosworth uses some strategically-placed stripes to conceal her private parts.

    Getty Images

Uma Thurman also seems to have forgotten her undergarments.

blake lively at the premier of australia

Blake Lively, in addition to being a Gossip Girl, is also a gorgeous girl. And at 21, it's appropriate for her to risk some kookier fashion choices. The young fashionista succeeds more often than she fails...but here, at the New York premiere of Baz Luhrmann's epic film Australia, she fails.

I want that! Blake Lively in Michael Kors

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Get the Look

Stylish actress Blake Lively brought her fashionable mother to the Michael Kors show during New York's fashion week. While they both looked equally glam, we'd have to say that Blake's contemporary take on a Mod shift dress stole the show.

Simply accessorized with a black exotic skin clutch and black strappy heels, Blake knew that she just had to let that dazzling dress shine.

Get the look: Miss Sixty style accessories

If you wanna pull off some of the daring looks at Miss Sixty this spring, you'd better get your stems and chest in shape! The collection was brimming with plunging halter necklines, transparent tops and up-to-there hemlines. Although the shapes were showy, there was also a lot of comfort present in billowing lantern sleeves, playful jumpsuits and maxi length t-shirt dresses (which we're obviously going to need come spring).

In true Miss Sixty spirit, the real fun came in with the accessories. Hats of all kinds – beanies, crochet, visors, newboys – accompanied stripped knee socks, scarves, giant cuffs, black belts galore, and huge round sunglasses.

In our humble opinion, the Miss Sixty show was a perfect contemporary take on the bold, beautiful Mod look of the 60's. And we love it!

I want that! Alexis Bledel in Alaia

Filed under: Shoes, Get the Look

Though all the girls look great, blah, blah, blah, we're only really concerned with one thing in this photo – Alexis Bledel's shoes. These gorgeous Alaia shoes appear extremely hard to pull which is why mostly only supermodels like Naomi Campbell wear Alaia stuff. But Alexis, a mere mortal, manages to make them work with her equally unique dress.

Just had to give a little shout out because those are just some killer kicks.
