Have You Scheduled Your Inauguration Procedure?

Filed under: Style in the News, Skin Care

Doctor administering botox injections to a middle aged womanWith so many reported Botox enthusiasts involved in last year's presidential election -- Biden, McCain, and Hilary -- it comes as no surprise that the demand for beauty injections has been skyrocketing during the lead up to Barack Obama's inaugural celebration. Forget about getting a new black dress or a dapper new haircut, the hottest thing to wear at the inaugural celebration this time around is a brand new cosmetic procedure.

Tim Gunn returns with new BFF Gretta Monahan

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

As huge Tim Gunn fans, we've been waiting for the second season of Tim Gunn's Guide To Style, seemingly forever. Bravo finally announced that we'll see new episodes starting on October 2nd, at 11 pm, which would be a bizarre time if anyone ever watched anything live anymore. Thank you Tivo!

There was buzz that they were going to rework the show, and now we know that at least one of the changes is a new fashion accomplice. The beautiful but disproving Veronica Webb will be replaced by stylist Gretta Monahan, who we can already tell is way more fun. For a preview of her makeover style, check out this video of her helping a girl actually look like a girl.

Gretta's from Boston, so we automatically like her. She's on Rachel Ray all the time, and has that same gravelly voice and perkiness, which is good in small doses. And she sorta reminds us of makeover queen Stacy London, but without the evil ability to make us cry.

We can't wait to watch Gretta go through some underwear drawers!

American League All-Stars: The jerseys

Whit Honea is a slacker, a borderline degenerate, and a daydream believer. He's also our resident expert on casual chic. If it's comfortable, and not heinous, he's all over it. He's quite charming, really. Go Yanks!

Major League Baseball will be celebrating the All-Star break in one week. That doesn't mean you can't start celebrating it now. We're talking jerseys, people.

Granted, we usually don't suggest that people wear replica jerseys and faux uniforms as a fashion statement. However, as a regular statement they are generally acceptable. Still, you probably shouldn't wear them to the office. They're much more appropriate to wear to the game, bar, or other sports-related event. Luckily we go to a lot of games, bars and sports-related events. Mostly bars.

Soothe your sunburn with Burt's Bees aloe and buttermilk lotion

San Francisco summers are freezing cold. We usually spend June and July so bundled up that the sun doesn't have a chance to burn any body parts. We must admit: sunscreen is often an afterthought.

Last week we sat through a two hour graduation ceremony in Boston during a heatwave and received a fierce reminder of it's importance: glowing, red, sunburned arms.

This was a bad burn, and Lubriderm wasn't going to cut it, so we headed to Walgreens for aloe vera gel. Luckily we found something even better: Burt's Bees Soothingly Sensitive Aloe & Buttermilk Lotion.

What to wear on a trip to Boston during baseball season

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrities with Style

If you live in Boston, or ever visited, you know that Red Sox gear is as ubiquitous as The Lottery. And there are so many items from which to choose: tshirts, jackets, the Alyssa Milano line of crazy dresses and tanks, and of course, the classic baseball hat.

The thing is, those giant man brims look hideous on a small woman's head. We've cringed many times at photos from BBQs where it looks like we're wearing a duck costume. Is that a brim or a bill?

It's a challenge for stylish ladies who want to show their pride in the reigning world champion team.

Until Alyssa does some feminine hats, we're stuck with the ladies' hat section of the Yawkey Way Store. Our favorites, like this hot black satin and lace number, in the gallery.

Go Red Sox!

Paris fashion coming to Boston!

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Clothing

Believe it or not, Boston's Museum of Fine Arts (or the MFA, as those in the know call it) will bring la mode francaise to Beantown this winter. Running from November 12 to March 17, 2007 is the exhibition "Fashion Show: Paris Collections 2006".

On display will be the spring lines from ten to twelve designers, including Dior, Chanel, Valentino and Lacroix. Clearly, there will be no place for stodgy New England Puritanism here!

Though Boston in winter is not the ideal time to visit, this exhibition may cause you to reconsider your holiday vacation plans. Yes, the weather in Boston will be cold, but the styles will be hot.

Tunestyle: Lame songs you have to love

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Q Magazine just released a list of the top 10 'guilty pleasure songs' -- you know, those songs you can't help but rock out to when you are driving alone in the car or singing to yourself in the shower. Topping Q's list was ELO's single, "Livin' Thing." In case you don't remember, ELO is the Electric Light Orchestra, which was a group led by Jeff Lynne in the 1970s. Q described this album as "gloriously bonkers."

Other songs that made the list include:
  • Boston - More Than A Feeling
  • S Club 7 - Don't Stop Movin'
  • 10cc - I'm Not In Love
  • Gary Glitter - Rock'n'Roll Part 2
  • Foreigner - Cold As Ice
  • Billy Idol - Rebel Yell
  • Status Quo - Whatever You Want
  • Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street
  • Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive
To wit: If loving Gloria Gaynor is bad, I don't want to be good!
