Phoenix Fashion Week: Breast cancer awareness "Perfectly Pink" collection

Phoenix Fashion Week (PFW), which kicks off October 1 and runs through the 4, has aligned itself with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation to bring more awareness to the cause as well as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October).

There are definitely some fun events to be had to raise money for the cure but the best is the "Perfectly Pink" collection by 18 year old Emily Miller. Miller is the youngest designer to ever show at PFW but you'd never know it by looking at her designs. She gathers inspiration from cultures and styles the world over and infuses it with the hope she sees in those who fight for the cure every day.

Her collection is so good in fact, that Miller got a prime spot at fashion week. Her collection will show at the kickoff party at the Royal Palms Resort and Spa. All proceeds of the celebration will be directly donated to charity.
A good heart and an incredible fashion sense? This isn't the last we'll see of this girl!

Miley Cyrus - Can't get any PRVCY, so she wears it

Filed under: Clothing, Jeans, Celebrities with Style

Is there a hidden message on Miley's behind? She's wearing PRVCY Premium's "Monaco" jean, which we know she bought at Harmony Lane boutique in Beverly Hills this past weekend, because she doesn't have any privacy.

Other celebs substituting PRVCY for privacy? Hayden Panettiere, Eva Longoria Parker, Jessica Alba and Emmy Rossum are all fans of the new line.

We also hear that the brand donates 10% of its sales to breast cancer research. If you want to feel like you're living in the limelight and help a good cause along the way, you can get your own pair for $198 at www.shopharmonylane.com.

Emmy Rossum has PiNKiTUDE

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Style for a Cause

PiNKiTUDE sounds like the overwhelming urge to do an Elle Woods, but really it's the name of MGM's new cause related marketing initiative. The campaign, which aims to to educate young women about the importance of early detection and a healthy lifestyle, will run between now and October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The campaign includes a clothing line, improbably inspired by the Pink Panther. It gets some fashion cred from having the reliably classy Emmy Rossum as the official spokesperson. A percentage of the proceeds from the lines will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

There was a big launch on Saturday, with a PiNKiTUDE "Pop Up Store" private event at the XIN boutique on Melrose Ave. We're all for fashion that supports a great cause like this, so we hope it's a big success, and doesn't get too confused with Victoria Secret.

Birthday best wishes to Betsey Johnson, fashion icon!

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

We could kind of say that we caught it with Kristen's post on this drool-worthy ring, but really, we almost missed the 30th anniversary of the launch of the Bestey Johnson fashion label.

Betsey and her business partner and CEO Chantal Bacon had a big bash last Friday to celebrate their long and successful collaboration, which officially started on Betsey's birthday, August 10, 1978.

She and Madonna pretty much defined style in the 80s and her signature look is just as fun and popular today as it was 30 years ago, with embellished skulls, ruffles and bright colors. To celebrate her anniversary and because of popular demand (the best reason, right?) this fall will see the release of the Betsey Johnson Vintage Collection.

Gwyneth Paltrow wears Karl Lagerfeld's design for a good cause

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style, Style for a Cause

Gwyneth Paltrow might have wowed us all during her Iron Man promos by wearing teeny, tiny dresses and giant heels, but the fashion-forward blond is getting ready to promote something else, this time wearing a t-shirt.

Sometimes good girls show their bras, but only for charity

Filed under: Style in the News, Swimwear and Lingerie, Style for a Cause

Usually we encourage ladies to keep their bra straps -- not to mention their bra cups -- well covered. But in this case, we are asking you to do the opposite. Even the rules of decorum can be lifted for a good cause.

Your shoe addiction can aid in breast cancer research

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Style for a Cause

ffany and zappos.comOkay, so maybe my shoe addiction can aid in breast cancer research and education.

FFANY (Fashion Footwear Association of New York) has teamed up with Zappos (one of my favorite online destinations!) in an effort to raise funds that will go toward innovative breast cancer research and initiatives at hospitals and research centers around the US like the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) and the Gillette Center for Women's Cancers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

For every order on Zappos that originates from the fundraising site (ffany.zappos.com), Zappos will donate 15% of the net sale. What a great a reason to shop for more shoes!

Think Pink: Socks at Wal-mart

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Style for a Cause

pick stuff socks for breast cancerI'm not a big Wal-mart shopper. In fact, I'm not a Wal-mart shopper at all, but if you are lucky enough to have one of the supermega discount stores in your neighborhood, you can pick up a pack of five pairs of these socks.

The thick cotton socks, by Pink Stuff garments, come in various pink and white designs: one heart and ribbon design, one pink ribbon and stripe design, one "find a cure" and "breast cancer" message design, one "fight, happiness, family, pink, joy, find a cure." Pink Stuff will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of these items to cancer research and patient care.

The pack of five is $11.95, and also comes in an ankle-sock style.
