Texas Lawmakers Move to Ban Underage Tanning

Filed under: Style in the News, Skin Care, Beauty Tips

Woman being swallowed up in a tanning bedUnderage tanning. Unless you live in a suburb of Dallas or have a passion for following nanny state politics, this term is probably somewhat foreign to you -- but it might not be for long. Lawmakers in Texas are actually debating right now on whether the state should pass a ban on tanning for those under the age of 18. Look, we've heard of some seriously dangerous forms of tan-orexia, but should teen tanning really be outlawed completely?

Larry Hagman at Oktoberfest - StyleFoul

Yes. That's J.R. Ewing in lederhosen. He never could resist a hat, be it cowboy or loden hut.

We could almost forgive Larry Hagman for this getup. He's in Germany for Oktoberfest, the beer festival immortalized in such film classics as Beerfest and Oktoberfest, and when in Rome...or Munich, right? Plus, he's the beloved Major Anthony Nelson from I Dream of Jeannie!

However, as you can see, the nether regions of his short pants appear to have a couple of openings. And he's using that area as a hand warmer, in a way that is similar to the device ladies use called a muff.

If he's doing what we think he's doing, we're surprised he doesn't look happier. Also, we hope he washes his hands before eating.

No Ozzfest, is goth dead?

Filed under: Style in the News, Vintage and Retro

Stock prices for Chain Wallets R' Us are plummeting on the news that Ozzy and company are not taking their metal showcase on the road. Instead, this year's Ozzfest is going to be a 1-day only event in Dallas' Pizza Hut Park -- we've never even heard of this place.

Here's the big question: without an Ozzfest tour, what's going to happen to goth fashion in this country? How will the interest in skulls, dragons and lightning bolts be kept alive for future generations? It doesn't seem like there's any other metal event that comes close to the magnitude of Ozzfest. We've even noticed that Hot Topic is starting to look like it wants to be Urban Outfitters.

Not that we're big fans of Ozzy or the tour, but this seems like it is going to send shockwaves through the leather pants industry. Are we losing yet another segment of rock fashion? Guess goth kids will have to get season passes to the renaissance fair.

Cadillac presents Dallas Fashion Week

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Style in the News

dallas fashion weekIt looks like everyone wants a piece of the Fashion Week fun. Anne mentioned that internationally, Germany will be presenting a fashion week, and following in the path of Mercedes-Benz taking over sponsorship of Fashion Weeks in New York and Los Angeles, Cadillac will be presenting Fashion Week in Dallas.

The event will take place from March 7th through the 10th at Dallas's Northpark Shopping Center. Fashion at the Park, as it has been named, is a collaboration between the shopping center and Vogue magazine, which will be providing much of the media sponsorship. Fifteen fashin shows from designer like Carolina Herrera and Salvatore Ferragamo will do shows on a full-scale runway.

Rocio Ildemaro makes shoes just for you

Although I don't find the idea of shopping for new shoes nearly as traumatizing as finding jeans that fit, still the idea of bespoke shoes has a strong appeal. Imagine, a shoe made just for your foot. My latent Cinderella fantasies come rushing to the forefront.

Rocio Ildemaro is in the business of creating bespoke shoes and boots. Your feet are measured and then you talk about your favorite styles and discuss materials and heel height. Rocio Ildemaro is based in Dallas so for most of us, this would be a pilgrimmage of the feet. As Daily Candy mentioned when they profiled the company, the luxury of bespoke shoes is pricey, a pair starts around $800. I love this pair called the professor's coat which is made of tweed with suede patches.
