Ebay bans products containing ivory - Tusk no one

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Green Fashion

We all know that Ebay is a gigantic player in the retail world, but because of its virtual nature, it's hard to keep tabs on just how large the worldwide garage sale really is. Here's an indicator, the International Fund for Animal Welfare says that the online retailer is big enough to be responsible for "63% of the trade in endangered species -- with elephant ivory comprising 73% of all products tracked." Just think, that leopard skin purse could be real leopard skin. That's why eBay feels compelled to start cracking down on ivory sales starting January 1st.

Housekeepers rob the Beckhams, hock their loot on Ebay

Filed under: Accessories, Celebrities with Style

Tough luck bidders, police in the UK are putting a stop to what could be some of the hottest deals on stolen celebrity memorabilia we'll ever see. According to Daily Mail, a couple of sneaky housekeepers at the Beckhams' mansion in Hertfordshire were making off with some of the couple's clothing and trinkets and trying to pawn them off on Ebay -- like no one was going to notice.

Genuine bigfoot hoax costume on Ebay - Halloween specials

Filed under: Style in the News

Hopefully, you heard about the scientific breakthrough this year where two hunters in Georgia came across the forensic evidence that finally proves that giant hairy ape-men exist -- a bigfoot corpse. To the surprise of few, when legendary bigfoot hunter Tom Biscardi thawed out the body, it turned out to be nothing but a rubber bigfoot costume. Right now, that very famous costume is on Ebay, and the bidding is already up to $200,400. If you've got the cash handy, this is your chance to snag the best costume of 2008.

eBay WTF Friday Five

Third grade teacher gone badThis week, let's take a moment to celebrate the delightfully heinous crimes against denim witnessed on eBay. We've already brought you:

Bad Jean Jacket #1
Bad Jean Jacket #2
& Bad Jean Jacket #3

Here are #4-8, starting with this one.

A patch on your jean jacket is sort of sweet, in an "I was once a girl/boy scout and I dig patches" kind of way. This many patches? Batdung crazy.

This jacket includes patches such as:

Madrid
American Indian guy
American Indian guy #2
Ladybug
Bear with hat on
Giraffe
Elephant
Rag doll
Rainbow
French weathervane
Skull

WTF? See the gallery for more eBay denim disasters.

eBay WTF of the Day: Bad jean jacket #3

Ach! Too! Busy! Cripes! Eyes! Burning!

Be careful with denim, people. This is an example of where a simple crime against denim could lead to total outfit mayhem. We don't care what you're wearing under that jacket; we take one look at it and we're having a seizure on the floor.

This jean jacket from Josephs-colours-sells on eBay is a Coldwater Creek from the underacknowledged realm of "trying to look like your mother and doing it wrong."

eBay WTF of the Day: Bad jean jacket #2

WTF? This is so obviously wrong.

It's like this. The jacket was too long so they decided to cut it. Then, while they got ready to cut it, they had seven martinis and decided it would be really funny if they just cut some of it off. We can just see this being a good idea at like, 3am:

"Yeah, you know...like coattails...but on the sides...of this denim jacket...with three quarter sleeves and an awkward, sideways belly-flap."

But that idea should have been trumped in the morning.

Creepy Angelina Jolie doll has lots and lots of company

Filed under: Style in the News

So...remember that creepy but irresistible Angelina Jolie doll that Annie found on eBay? It was a little too lifelike, but also a little too idealized...basically we've been waiting to hear that it came to life and killed the guy (because it was a guy, right?) who bought it for £2,000.

Now the Daily Mail has a story on the artist, Noel Cruz. And guess what? There are more dolls. A lot more.

eBay WTF of the Day: Leather, fox, and failure

Here we are, a crime against leather and foxes alike.

Places fox fur does not belong:

The ocean.
Guernsey (there are no foxes on the isle of Guernsey).
All over a leather jacket. WTF?

It's like someone took a sort of ugly leather jacket and decided to "improve" it by putting a fox vest over it.

eBay WTF of the Day: Bad jean jacket #1

Totally unjustifiable.
It must be fall. Get out your bad jean jackets.

Here, on sale from Cerry5354, we have a green satin disaster. This is like a castoff from that scene in Return to Oz when Dorothy had to touch everything that was green to bring Oz back to life or something, I don't know, I was only half watching by that point because that Rock dude really freaked my shiz out. And the flying moose box. WTF, moose box? Anyway, all the stuff that was green in that scene was like, really awkwardly and sort of aggressively green. Like this jacket.

Also, can we take a moment to appreciate the fact that Dorothy was played by Fairuza Balk? Thanks.

eBay WTF of the Day: Shoes from outer space

These will make you extra terrestrial.
Wowza. These shoes are astronomically out of control. Not only will they make you 6 inches taller (we think; the shoes measure 8 inches from top to bottom at the back), but they also look like they are made of spaceship scraps.

Perhaps they were designed specifically for outer space. Perhaps there are lasers mounted inside for battling evil moon-critters and martians. Check out the scalloping on the bottom of these shoes. Perhaps they are weighted, to aid with gravitational issues. You could totally dig into some extra terrestrial terrain in these bad boys.

The best part of the listing:
"Not for the faint-of-heart but your friends will love them. Not worn."

This pretty much tells us everything we need to know about the owner's situation. Clearly, she was out shopping with friends and saw these shoes, and was like "oh my god you guys, I have to try those on."

eBay WTF of the Day: Padding for all eight of your breasts

Filed under: Accessories, Swimwear and Lingerie, Flatter Your Figure, Style Lies

We call this Seriously? It's like a display of shoulder pads for Russian nesting dolls.

This set of pads to make your breasts look bigger (both in swimwear and bras!) is weird. There's something about the hot pink background, too. Very modern art. Very...teeth. Or unpainted fake nails. Or thirds of porcelain teacups. Or something.

Breast padding? Well, it's certainly not the first thing that comes to mind. Still, the listing says: "Make you a cup size Bigger Bra Pads."

Do they work? Probably. Will it look natural? Maybe. Will it feel weird? Definitely. WTF? Hook us up with some socks. This is America.

eBay WTF of the Day: Give me four bucks for whatever this is.

Weird."Weird little cheap handbag" is the title of this eBay listing by Solsticedreamer.

We don't really know what to say here. It's sort of unremarkable, yes, but the title is so aggressively blase...it kind of cracks us up.

Here's what Solticedreamer has to say about the "weird little cheap handbag:"

"Looks hand made, maybe out of bubble gun wrapers? I mean it has a funny shiny look."

eBay WTF of the Day: En garde, shoe!!

En garde, shoe!!
Hello! My name is Manolo Blahnik! You killed my father! Prepare to die!

We freaking love it. It's a shoe horn sword.

Dforceit is selling this terrific shoe horn for $9.99, and it ships from "Wild & Wonderful West Virginia." We have a feeling we would like Dforceit very much.

Some other things Dforceit has for sale:
