Just as Emma Watson secures her status as fashion icon, the starlet wants out of the limelight. So, she's fleeing to... New York City.

The "Harry Potter" star, who's rumored to have a fashion line in the works, reveals in the August issue of British ELLE that she's ready to make like Hermione and bury her head in some books: she's set to attend Columbia this fall.

"At the moment I feel like I need to go away and figure out what I want to do and be myself for a bit. I just want to take a step back from it and not rush into stuff," she told the magazine.

"I need university to give me that break. People think because I'm going to university I'm never going to act again, but it's actually me... I want to... figure out how I feel about everything first. Maybe I'll keep acting, maybe I won't. I just want to find something where I feel I have to do this."

A heavy, "feline" eye, as the makeup artist on set called it, looks all the more striking against handfuls of diamonds.

"I don't want other people to decide who I am. I want to decide that for myself," she told the magazine.

Watson says Chanel is one of her favorite labels, and rumors swirl that the teenager is set to design her own line.

Emma Watson Set to Design Teen Clothing Line

Filed under: Style in the News

Emma Watson's one busy girl! She quickly traded in her wand and cape for designer dresses and stilettos.

First, the "Harry Potter" star attended a private Rodarte dinner, looking extremely cutting edge.

Then, shortly after, the actress officially reached fashion icon status when she became the new face of Burberry.

Now, we hear, via Britain's "News of the World," that Watson is slated to design her own clothing line for teens.

No details, sketches or images have been released, but apparently the 19-year-old actress plans to donate proceeds from the sales of the line to UNICEF. Chic and charitable -- she's amazing!

And a source told the paper that "she's been getting advice from her fashion designer pals like Karl Lagerfeld."
(Not a bad way to break into the biz.)

We'll give you the deets as soon as we have 'em. Are you as curious as we are?

Emma Watson Sheds Her 'Harry Potter' Image for New Burberry Ads

If the name "Emma Watson" brings to mind wizardry and potions, it's time to rethink the 19-year-old British actress.

From the looks of Burberry's Fall/Winter '09 ad campaign -- which places Watson at the center of fellow Brits/hot male actors, DJs and models: Douglas Booth, Charlie France, Tom Hughes, Tom Guinness and Nick Wilson -- it's pretty clear the spell Watson is casting is far from that of your average teen.

Watson is quite comfortably coming into her own, in both a theatrical and style sense. She was one of just a handful of guests at a private party celebrating Rodarte last week. And now, stars in the Burberry ad campaign. That's no small fashion feat!

Famed photographer Mario Testino shot the campaign, while Burberry's Christopher Bailey served as creative director. Bailey states: "Having known and admired the lovely Emma Watson for quite some time, she was the obvious choice for this campaign who, like the images she fronts, has a classic beauty a great character and a modern edge."

As for Burberry's direction, it appears to be all about the trench and the tote. Rough leathers and oversized bags rule next season's collection -- we can't wait to see more.

The importance of being properly shod: Emma Watson

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

When I first saw Hermione Emma Watson here, I thought, not a great fit on the dress, but MAN I'd love to have her easy-breezy hair. She and her friends look young, fresh, and ... OH DEAR GOD, WHAT IS ON HER FEET? What is on ALL of their feet?

I mean, Hermione, honey, did you buy those in Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes? You know that's a joke shop -- they might have looked good there, but the moment you left Diagon Alley, they turned into black athletic tape.

I shouldn't be so mean. Probably she was hexed and her ankles won't hold her up without magical ugly shoes. Or, perhaps her fugly-footed friends put a spell on her and made her wear these in order to make their shoes look better (because that's the only way Katie Leung's (right) shoes were going to escape criticism. Evanna Lynch (left) is debatable, in large part because she's next to those two).

Except this is the real world, with no witches, hexes, or excuses, these shoes ruin an otherwise passable outfit.
