Frieda Pinto Gets Estee Lauder Contract?

freida pinto at the oscar'sWe should preface this by saying both Frieda Pinto's management team and Estee Lauder's flacks have given a resounding "no comment" regarding the rumors of a deal between the two ... which most certainly means that, yes, it is true.

Esteé lauder and Wal-Mart make nice - strange times

Filed under: Style in the News, Fragrance

(Can they really go cheap? Click the photo to see some shockingly expensive designer products)

As the world of fashion reacts to the tanking economy, some high-end players are making bold new compromises partnerships in order to break into a recession-friendly lower price point. For example, in an attempt to scoop up some consumers that will be broke bargain shopping for the foreseeable future (like us), Esteé Lauder will be launching a trio of fragrances exclusively at the fashion hub that is Wal-Mart.

The new line will be sold under the name C-Thru, as in the bottles are transparent -- or as in 'wow, the economy must really suck for Esteé Lauder to make such a transparent attempt to reach out to Wal-Mart shoppers.' While the move is totally uncharacteristic for the historically highbrow cosmetics firm, launching a Wal-Mart line is probably one of their best chances to grow in these tough times.

The C-Thru trio will consist of gem-inspired fragrances like Ruby, Purple Diamond, and Blue Opal. After their exclusive launch at Wal-Mart this December, EL's low-end fragrances will eventually be sold at other luxury stores such as Kohl's and Target. Weird.

Estee Lauder, put THAT on me!

We saw this display of Estee Lauder's new Signature Blush at Lord & Taylor and got all excited! In particular, we were interested in the two-tone blends in the front row.

I'm always up for something cool, so I asked Estee Lauder to put that bright white and pink shade, second from the left, on me. Read on to see!

Estee Lauder announces vibrating mascara for extra happy lashes

So, there it is, Estée Lauder is making a new mascara that vibrates -- laugh it up. We feel like this is some kind of Friday the 13th prank, but it appears to be reality. Apparently, Estée Lauder's new TurboLash All Effects Motion Mascara will provide you with the latest and greatest in lash length, curl and separation technology by vibrating at 125 micropulses per second.

You might expect some kind of low-end makeup line to pull a novelty stunt like this, but Estée Lauder? WTF? There must be some legitimate reason that they decided to go all 'electric toothbrush' on us. Their market research must have shown that women are tired of having to move those heavy brushes. Or maybe they found that vibrators really do make eyelashes look way better. Either way, they're setting themselves up for a bunch of raunchy jokes. Maybe that's just part of the marketing gimmick?

Estee Lauder Cherished compact

Another great compact, this one is the latest from Estee Lauder and far less pricey than the last one I found myself smitten by. The Cherished powder compact is a pink, gold and white compact with a cheery swirled design. It is filled and refillable with Lucidity Pressed Powder and sells for $60.

Will Reese Be An Estee Girl?

Filed under: Cosmetics, Fragrance, Celebrities with Style

Last week we learned that Drew Barrymore will appear in CoverGirl advertising. Now we hear that Reese Witherspoon may be the next face of Estee Lauder. Current Estee Lauder faces include Liya Kebede, Carolyn Murphy, Elizabeth Hurley, Hilary Rhoda and another Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow. The deal isn't official yet but I hope it comes to pass, I'd certainly prefer Witherspoon's cheery Southern accent narrating the Lauder commercials instead of Paltrow's listless musings.

Coach's first fragrance debuts March 5

coach the fragranceAnd don't worry, the first fragrance ever from the American leather goods company won't have you smelling like, well, leather.

The fragrance, which is called Coach the Fragrance (no need for a fancy name the first time around!) is the product of a partnership between Coach and Estee Lauder. It is made from green mandarin, honey, and sandalwood, an interesting mix of sweet and woodsy. Not quite my taste, but sure to please someone.

Coach the Fragrance will debut on March 5, 2007, and will be available as a 1.7 oz bottle for $68, a 0.27 oz purse spray for $42 and a solid perfume for $40.

Beautiful Love, a new version of the 1980s perfume

Beautiful by Estee Lauder is one of those classic scents that people tend to either love or loathe. It came out in 1985 and high school girls and college girls trying to smell grown-up walked the halls wreathed in clouds of the stuff. It was never my thing -- it was eau de popular preppy girl not eau de geeky girl with a platinum streak in her hair and a penchant for rhinestone bracelets.

The new scent, Beautiful Love, has some of the same floral notes as the original such as rose and jasmine but it is meant to be a fresher and richer more new love than romantic bridal love like Beautiful. Estee Lauder has a heart-covered limited edition gift box for Beautiful Love that includes an eau du parfum spray, an eau de parfum pen and a golden mirror for $62. It could be a nice Valentine's Day gift for someone who loves the original although I suspect this one will be a lot fruiter than the original to keep up with the modern taste for the ultra sweet stuff.

Eau du Gwyneth Paltrow

Filed under: Cosmetics, Fragrance, Celebrities with Style

Academy-award winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow just unveiled a new limited edition scent for Estee Lauder called Pleasures by Gwyneth Paltrow. While the Pleasures perfume is about ten years old, the new limited edition version will feature a slightly lighter concentration of the familiar floral scent.

The Pleasures by Gwyneth Paltrow line, which is packaged in "Cinderalla Pink and gold" includes an eau du perfume spray, a satin body silk, and bath salts. (According to reports, Gwyneth is a big bath taker -- who knew?) But If you're interested in trying out Gwyneth's new perfume, you better get on it, pronto. The limited edition scent will only be around for three months.

Airbrushing for the rest of us

Filed under: Stores We Love, Style in the News

Having seen a good number of models without makeup on, I'm well aware of what a little bit of airbrushing can do for one's appearance. But sometimes airbrushing can go awry -- think model Carolyn Murphy in any of her Estee Lauder ads, where she looks like an airbrushed alien.

Now, we mere mortals can take advantage of good airbrushing with My Perfect Picture. Upload your favorite photo and then use the handy tools to banish anything unsightly -- wrinkles, acne, crows feet, red eye, blotchy skin, multiple chins. You may get a little heavy-handed with the "enhancement" of your photograph, but just promise me that you won't go as far as Carolyn Murphy, Model from the Planet Mars.

Party planners for your funeral

Filed under: Style in the News

Thanks to the ever-pertinent New York Times style section, today we have the newest trend in funerals: party planners.

That's right -- in an age of SAT coaches, personal trainers and wedding planners, why not have somebody put together a memorable send-off as you take the Big Sleep? As John Leland notes in his NYT article, Mark Duffey's Everest Funeral services will -- for $995 or a monthly fee -- put together a funeral guaranteed to make the Society page.

Whereas the ancient Egyptians mummified their dead and the Vikings sent their dead off to sea in a rudderless boat, why not have a marching band and fill Avery Fischer Hall, as Robert Tisch did? Or why not have waiters pass out chocolate-covered marshmallows, as Estee Lauder did?

In short: if you're stylish in life, why not be stylish in death?
