We all know that fashion is art, especially when you're talking about shows at the various Fashion Weeks. However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and art is pretty subjective -- and Alexander McQueen's Paris show definitely had people questioning whether or not he crossed a line. As the New York Times put it so well, "Fashion is in a fractured state," and at a time when other designers didn't dare go over the top, McQueen gave a show that was, well, a show.

Nicole Richie in Sonia Rykiel - I Want That!

As mom-to-be for the second time around, Nicole Richie looked completely cute in this red double breasted peacoat at the Proenza Schouler show during New York Fashion Week. Nicole has noted before that a tunic, opaque tights, and big, black shoes have been her go-to look all season long. But instead of sticking with only bland black, she lets her bright personality shine with a great pop of color.

At the DSquared2 fashion show in Milan on Monday, heads turned in confusion as models traipsed past with what some might not consider a classic fashion accessory -- the Starbucks cup. WTF?

Olivia Palermo in DVF - I Want That!

Since we have been introduced to Olivia Palermo via MTV's "The City," we have come to realize just who Candace Bushnell's books are about and that the people she discusses in favorite reads like "Sex and the City" and "Four Blondes" are absolutely real. Olivia is the epitome of stylish, sophisticated, bitchy, backstabbing New York socialite glamor. And she makes no apologies for it.

Anna Wintour and Carine Roitfeld, Battle of the Vogues

Filed under: Style in the News

It's the clash of the fashion titans. Rumors have been swirling for months that American Vogue editor Anna Wintour, infamous for her hostility towards press and television interviews, will be doing a 60 Minutes special with Morley Safar which will air by May 2009. The gossip mill also claims that Anna and French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld, for lack of better words, hate each other. So in true fashion diva style, Carine couldn't let Anna be the only Vogue editor with a special this season, now could she?

Eliza Dushku in Kaufman Franco - I Want That!

eliza dushku, rachel zoeJudging by this pic, Dollhouse actress Eliza Dushku has brought (or possibly has had?) Rachel Zoe into her styling entourage. And if it's true, we say brilliant move, Eliza! Why? Because as much as we hate to even admit it, we don't think we've ever really given this red carpet cutie a second glance until we laid eyes on this marvelous metallic number.

The dress could have easily taken an overly complicated turn with the wrong accessories. But Eliza put an effortless spin on it by choosing easy hair with lots of movement and minimal accessories. All in all, we think it's sophisticated but still young and fun.

Rose Byrne in Louis Vuitton - I Want That!

rose bryneAt the amfAR New York Gala To Kick Off Fall 2009 Fashion Week, Rose Byrne, for lack of better wording, completely killed it in this Louis Vuitton dress. It's such a mixture of opposing elements – romantic but fierce; sophisticated but playful; simple but complicated. We'll stop before we go into a tangent. But just know that this dress is it for us!

We also love the makeup for spring. The soft, slightly glossed orangey coral lip is right on trend for spring. Paired with barely there blush and minimal eye makeup, the look is totally crisp and a refreshing change from the bold red lip of last spring.

Fall Fashion Week - Vivienne Tam

Vivienne Tam

Vivienne Tam was one of my first fashion loves. The bright colors, the flattering silhouettes....it's all just so pretty and timeless. So when I met her I was thrilled and then surprised. She was so sweet and humble and modest about her outrageous talents – and let me tell you, this is flabbergasting for an established fashion designer. Usually there's a little more, well, attitude. Not here. "I don't like to say nice things about myself. I guess it's how I was raised. But I do like this collection, and hope it does well," she said. Check out some of the looks and the A-Listers who attended her presentation and the super-fun after-party during Fashion Week.

This ultra-flattering dress works now through Spring and for years to come...the epitome of an investment piece.

The one-shoulder, asymmetric trend rages on.

Models showing off the new collection decorated the party. Another investment piece: Behold the ideal LBD!

The divine BeBe Neuwirth shared a moment with her friend the designer Vivienne Tam at the party to celebrate the new collection.

Your coat is often the main thing people see! Check out some of the coolest (hottest?) offerings for Fall.

Joy Bryant in Missoni - I Want That!

joy bryantYou knew it wouldn't be Fashion Week "Get the Look" without an appearance from our favorite girl on the town, Joy Bryant. Though she had some really great looks this week (ie: a killer Missoni jumpsuit and a stained glass print Matthew Williamson mini), this relaxed look from the Jason Wu show was one of our favorites.

Dramatic Updos by Sebastian and Wella at Catherine Malandrino
