Man Found Guilty of Cross Dressing in Dubai - Fashion Crime

Filed under: Style in the News, Men

A man dressed as a woman performs in a drag showIf you're planning a trip to the rich and worldly city of Dubai -- land of folklore, myth, and Kids Fashion Week -- make sure to pack some clothing that's unmistakeably specific to your own gender, especially if you're a man. An Indian man working in Dubai was arrested by police in the Mall of the Emirates for wearing women's clothing and mascara, then fined $2,722 by a judge. Our question: what if it turns out that he was wearing manscara?

Federal Judge Decides Whether a Kindergartner Cuts Awesome Pigtails

Filed under: Style in the News

Native American girl with long pigtailsNo matter how many times school dress code battles make their way into the nation's highest courts, it seems that square principal will never stop trying to force kids to cut their hair -- no matter how totally awesome their style is. The latest example should be a no-brainer: a Native American kindergartner has some totally rockin' hair down to his waist, and says it's part of Apache religious beliefs. Should the school do anything? To any fashion-savvy person, the answer is obvious, because we know that obsessing over hairstyles can be a religion.

Mayor Says Saggy Pants Problem is "Much Bigger" than Constitution

Filed under: Style in the News

A dude with extremely low saggy pants walks with a woman in gold lamme pantsRegardless of how stupid they look or the fact that saggy pants aren't even fashionable anymore, here at Stylelist, we believe you have a constitutional right to sag. Many political figures agree with us, including President Obama, a Palm Beach circuit judge, and mayor Frank Melton of Jackson, Mississippi. Mayor Melton, however, has decided that due to a severe fashion crisis, he must revoke the constitutional right to sag in Jackson. Bummer.

5 Trends in Men's Fashion We Hope to Leave in 2008 - Good Riddance

Each year, we see tons all sorts of short-lived fashion trends that, at the time, seem to have some promise, but look kinda stupid immediately thereafter. That's part of what fashion is all about, and it's cool. Still, every once in a while, we see a look that's so ugly, annoying, or inconvenient, that we hope that it will be stamped out with a vengeance. We''ve poured through our files and made a list -- and, of course we checked it twice -- of the Top 5 menswear trends of 2008 that we hope will die out as quickly as they arrived.

Check out our picks after the fold.

Obama supports your right to wear saggy pants - Regime change

Filed under: Style in the News

This year, we've run across multiple stories about men getting ticketed -- or in some cases, arrested -- for wearing saggy pants under Florida's saggy pants ordinances. Needless to say, we stand opposed to any attempts to legislate fashion, no matter how stupid or ugly it looks. So, it's nice to find out that President-elect Obama shares our views and doesn't plan to create a 'Department of Homeland Fashion Police' or anything like that. Phew.

Criminal fashion: Swedish prisoners get new designer uniforms

Filed under: Style in the News

While we don't usually follow the latest trends at prison fashion shows, we do like to keep up with fashion crimes and cruel and unusual fashion punishment. This news would fall into the latter category. Apparently, Sweden's female inmate uniforms -- consisting of unisex gray t-shirts and sweatpants -- have long been considered a crime against femininity by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.

That's why a group of student designers were asked to get the ladies into some respectable rags. Aspiring fashionistas from the Beckmans School of Design went to work at designing cheap, durable and more effeminatly-colored uniforms. The new styles will allow women to carry out their sentences with a bit of self-esteem and individuality -- since the new uniforms will include subtle variations. Also, since many of the inmates happen to be meth-addicts, the uniforms can expand as they gain weight.

The school may have designed the more humane outfits, but they're not doing all the work -- inmates will construct the uniforms. BTW, this is not a picture of of the new uniforms.
