Backstage at Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring '09 - Day One

Michael Buckner is a fashion and celebrity photographer who travels around the world taking pictures on the red carpet. He gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the hottest entertainment industry events.

The grand finale of IMG's Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City is upon us. After 10 arduous seasons of t-shirts, jeans and cotton jersey dresses, the event organizer and the host are parting ways. And sadly, this may be the last runway I shoot for a long while. I'll spare you my emotional breakdown.

Sonya Rykiel celebrates its 40th anniversary with Belle en Rykiel Fragrance

Sonya Rykiel is having a party and she wants everyone to come along for the ride.

In honor of the Parisian label's 40th anniversary, they've created an oriental scent that comes equipped with frankincense-lavender accord, mouth-watering notes of red currant, coffee-blossom and a sweetness of heliotrope and vanilla. In addition, the label also put on a rather spectacular fashion show that consisted of those iconic knit sweaters and playful dresses that Rykiel has become known for, but since our economy is pretty much in the trash right now, we'd advise anyone interested in buying into the big celebration should take the fragrance route.

Why? Fragrances last much longer than trendy tops, the bottles the lovely scents come in make great counter top decorations, and they cost much less than the designer's expensive duds.

Vivienne Westwood at Paris Fashion Week

Only Vivienne Westwood would come out wearing a headband with a statement against the very thing she's selling. The grand dame of fashion sported headwear that had the word "Branded," scrawled across her forehead during her show at Paris Fashion Week.

Dior's star studded front row

At some fashion shows, front row watching is way more interesting than anything coming down the runway. Although that's not true in Dior's case because the clothes were beautiful too, the event did draw a varied crowd of celebs.

The Life & Times of Coco Rocha

Filed under: Style in the News

Coco Rocha has come a long way since she found herself Irish gigging down the Jean Paul Gaultier runway a couple of seasons ago. In a time in fashion where fresh faced models are just as easily forgotten as what they've been eating, Coco has managed to navigate this picky industry and transform herself into a very hot commodity.

Just ask Anna Wintour. The editor-in-chief has put the Canadian in practically every issue of Vogue since Coco's first appearance back in 2006. So, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Style.com, Vogue's online home, has just created a web series that will follow Coco as she tries to survive her cross country trek for Fashion Week.

In the first part, watch as Coco plays with a casting director and explains how one can walk away with nice designer pieces after the show. Watch and learn.

Milan Fashion Week: Kira Plastinina

Daughter of a Russian "orange juice mogul," (yes, that's straight from the mouth of Wikipedia), Kira Plastinina didn't take long to build her own empire -- in the fashion world. Her showing at Milan Fashion Week this year just further cements the fact that she really does belong with the big dogs.

Amazing accessories at Just Cavalli show in Milan

Sky high wooden platforms, wedges that are more artwork than they are shoes, bold colored purses in the shape of lunchboxes, big bauble necklaces in bright blue and pink -- the Just Cavalli show in Milan Fashion Week truly had some amazing clothes, but the little details stole the limelight.

Backstage at Issa, the lux London label designed by Daniella Issa Heleya, was spectacularly surrieal. London Fashion Week - Julien MacDonald

Julien MacDonald said that the collection he presented today during London Fashion Week was inspired by a fantasy safari, but we're wondering if he wasn't also a tiny bit influenced by the infamous Gisele water dress ad -- there was so much movement to all the garments!

Allessandro Dell' Acqua gets a helping hand

Filed under: Style in the News

Contrary to belief and that damn cult film known as The Devil Wears Prada, not everyone in the fashion industry is cold, ruthless, and only out for themselves. OK. There may be a few personality types that are like this, but the majority actually like each other.

Case in point: Allessandro Dell' Acqua, Edward Enniful, and Grace Coddington.

The latter two helped Allessandro style his first collection for the brand, Malo. Just in case you're not familiar with their fashion pedigrees, Coddington is the editor behind Natalia Vodianova's epic Alice in Wonderland spread and Enniful has been the style director of the very directional style mag, i-D.

Suffice it to say, skimming Style.com to check out the new vision of Malo had us in a tiny bit of suspense. And as expected, everything was ultra feminine and beautiful. Hopefully, this will translate into more sales for the brand when all of those demanding socialites flock to high end stores next spring.

StyleList Is...Bidding Fashion Week bon voyage

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Fashion Week

Anna Wintour! We know this one is Anna Wintour! We're watching: The last of the limos, trying to peek in
We're wearing: Long faces
We're eating: Tasti-D-Lite by the gallon
We're drinking:
That free wine from that gift bag we stole
We're thinking: At least next week is DC and London's Fashion Week, and Paris is coming soon!
Not over it: Fashion Week. Sigh.
