Father's Day Gift Guide: for the gardener

Got a dad that -- for some inexplicable reason -- loves to do yard work? Every Saturday from sunup to sundown, he's out there clipping and pruning and -- generally just digging randomly in the dirt to avoid the rest of the family? Here's a neat little contraption that will save dad from having to run back and forth to the garage every 10 minutes to rummage around in the old tool box.

A multi-tool might not be what you use to rebuild your 60's muscle car, but when you're doing chores around the house -- it's really nice to have everything you need hanging on your belt. That's why we love Leatherman tools. Plus, tools are a gift that always seem to stroke the male ego. This deluxe pair of pruning shears is equipped with a knife, hand saw, phillips-head screwdriver, flat-head screwdriver, and of course, the classic bottle opener (dad's gotta have a way to get those imported beers open). On sale for $60, it's a little more affordable than that Chanel fly-fishing rod.

Father's Day Gift Guide: for the new father

There's nothing more manly than becoming a father -- it's something that a woman technically cannot do. Still, most of the paraphernalia that comes along with the manhood's highest honor is far from being flattering to one's masculinity, but times they are a changing. Somebody somewhere had the good sense to start marketing dad-friendly diaper bags, and some of them are actually cool enough to be mistaken for a murse, laptop bag, or holdall.

We were totally impressed when we ran across this skull and iron cross-emblazoned diaper bag made by a company called DadGear. Sure, it costs $79.99 -- but you can't put a price tag on the male ego. If you're not the skull and iron cross type, you can tone it down with a Diaper Dude bag from Target. It's a little cheaper and doesn't put off that I'm trying too hard to be a cool dad vibe.

BUMP: T-shirts for bellies

Whit Honea is a slacker, a borderline degenerate, and a daydream believer. He's also our resident expert on casual chic. If it's comfortable, and not heinous, he's all over it. He's quite charming, really.

Dads don't get a whole lot of respect. We know this and we feel the pain. We blame Michael Keaton.

That is why our discovery of BUMP was such a surprise. BUMP, in the case of this Australian company, is actually an acronym for Babies Under Manufacturing Process. They carry an array of t-shirts geared towards the belly, be it the blossoming baby bump or the sympathy (and/or beer) filled gut on the dad-to-be.

Shave without water

Ok, we haven't checked the ingredients label on the back of this Bold For Men Dry Shave Gel, but it's probably not all that organic or eco-chic. In fact, whatever they put in it to be able to shave your face without a drop of water is obviously highly unnatural, or even supernatural. Still, we think it's cool to get a close shave without all the mess -- even though it's got to be a little intimidating the first time around.

The transparent gel protects against nicks and razor-burn while also letting you see what you're doing, so you don't end up plowing patches of your face over and over. Ginger root and tea tree oil helps to soothe you mug, if you've got an herbal fetish. Overall, we say the dry shave is one of the two most optimal shaving routines. You either want quick, clean and easy, or you want to go old school with the brush and straight razor -- none of that halfway junk.

This stuff might make a good Father's Day gift.
