Brüno GQ Cover Treated as Pornography in Chicago

Filed under: Style in the News

Aside from making some readers mildly uncomfortable, what harm can Brüno's nude GQ cover do? One newsstand in Chicago isn't willing to find out. The New York Times reports that the newsstand used blinders (the black panels that often hide the covers of traditional nudie mags) to hide Brüno's body.

But what about Jennifer Aniston's naked cover last year, you ask? Well, although this particular Chicago newsstand left it out there for the world to see, another high-profile newsstand did not -- the main newsstand in Grand Central Terminal covered up Ms. Aniston's flawless figure.

Marion Cotillard is Smokin' in GQ

Marion Cotillard slips into something a little more comfortable. Photo courtesy of Ben Hassett/GQ

Marion Cotillard turns up the heat in the July issue of GQ, and we have to admit, there's a bit of a girl crush going on.

Really, now. Is there anyone chicer or sexier than the French actress? We think not.

Cotillard details the highs and lows of starring opposite Johnny Depp, who plays John Dillinger, in the upcoming film "Public Enemies." (From the sound of it, there weren't any lows...)

Brüno Gets Naked for GQ

Brüno in the buff. Photo courtesy of Mark Seliger/GQ

His movie hasn't even come out on our shores yet, but Sacha Baron Cohen's alter-ego, Brüno, is verging on overexposure -- and frankly, the entertainment value is so high, I don't mind.

On the cover of GQ's July issue (out on newsstands June 23), SBC's gay Austrian fashion journalist character poses in the buff, perhaps a not-so-subtle allusion to the magazine's recent (and mildly scandalous) cover featuring Jennifer Aniston.

Celebs Bare All for Magazines

Heidi Klum's in nothing but her birthday suit for the March issue of German GQ. Fortunately her hubby Seal isn't the jealous type -- according to Heidi he's seen the photos and "loves them."

Kate Hudson recently revealed that she loves posing for provocative photo shoots -- but the sultry starlet certainly isn't the only celeb who's willing to bare all for a magazine cover.

    Interview

Emotions often run high in the world of fashion when designers seem to deliberately push the boundaries of what is an already undernourished idealized standard for runway models. When you call a supermodel like Heidi Klum "too heavy" -- as Wolfgang Joop did recently -- you've really stepped over the line. In an interview attacking the 36 year old model, Joop told Bild that "she is no runway model! Heidi Klum is simply too heavy and has too big a bust." Slam.

Jennifer Aniston - Posing for Playboy?

Jennifer Aniston certainly got people talking with her nude GQ spread -- in fact, she prompted us to ask whether the it was sexy and stunning, or a little sad and desperate. And now, she's been offered a record-breaking deal to pose for Playboy.

The deal is reportedly for $4 million, plus a percentage deal which could raise her payday to $10 million ... and, Jen turned it down.

We're not too surprised that Hef was interested in Jennifer after seeing that GQ spread. Heck, who wasn't? But we're also pretty happy she turned the offer down, apparently because she sees GQ as art, but Playboy is sex.

Jennifer Aniston: Stunning or Sad?

At 39-years-old, America's favorite romantically-challenged TV icon has still got it. Jennifer Aniston appears on the cover of this month's GQ in barely more than her birthday suit -- but, while she obviously looks gorgeous, we have to wonder: Does this seem a little desperate to anyone else?

Because if you'll remember, Jen's been "revealing" that she's still a little bitter about her Brangelina-induced break-up -- particularly the part where Angie and Brad fell for one another while he and Jen were still married.

Not like that it wasn't totally obvious to the rest of us, but when your ex-husband's new super-hot girlfriend publicly proclaims that he wasn't faithful to you, that's gotta sting.

Of course it wasn't always this way. In the 90's Jennifer Aniston was the center of the universe -- with every man in Hollywood (and beyond) dying for a date with the adorable girl next door.

So when she hooked up with Brad Pitt -- arguably the most desirable man on the planet -- it was a romance that we'd once thought was only possible in fairy tales and impossible romantic comedies.

But by January 2005, that fairy tale crumbled to pieces. Brad and Jen had been sordidly usurped by Brad and Angie, who'd met on the set of their sexy thriller, Mr. and Mrs. Smith. By November of that year Jen was on the comeback trail, showing the world she was over the break-up by showing some skin as GQ's first "Woman of the Year."

And for a moment, things looked good. Maybe Vince Vaughn wasn't just a rebound guy after all. Sure they seemed totally wrong for one another, but if they were getting married then clearly it'd all worked out for the best. Hooray! The dumped girl has been cured!

Oh wait. Maybe not. It seems Jen wasn't ready to accept that she'd fallen from "World's Most Desirable Heartthrob" to "That Chubby Guy You Met in Line for Pretzels at the Knicks Game." And of course rumors start to circulate that she's romantically illiterate and will never find love.

And just for fun, in December 2006, almost two years after Brad and Jen had bombed, our heroine, unlucky in love, gets to relive her failed marriage while suffering through a failed engagement. Awesome!

And that led to a few pretty lonely months. Jen dated some random guy no one had ever heard of -- and it still didn't work out -- but by that point the world had grown weary of the eminent disaster that was every Jennifer Aniston relationship.

OK, time to triumph over tragedy! In November 2007 we met the new Jennifer Aniston -- ready to break free from botched marriages, engagements, friendships, and whatever -- set to devour life as a confident, secure, totally not needy (so there's no reason to be scared of marrying me!) woman in the prime of her life.

Andre 3000's Clothing Line May Go Bust

Andre 3000 of OutkastTake this all with a grain of salt, as the source is a little questionable, but the rumor has been running rampant around the internet, so we couldn't not post it -- Andre 3000's clothing line, Benjamin Bixby, may be going bust, after less than a year of existence!

This certainly added to the hype surrounding the actresses' blockbuster movie, "Grindhouse."

Not that we're complaining -- we love celebrity nudity as much as the next person -- but what's with stars going naked on the covers of fashion magazines?

Kate Hudson is one of the most frequent skin flashing offenders, and according to The Sun, that's not going to stop any time soon. She loves doing it, and she plans more.

Not that she's an exhibitionist. No, when Kate bares all on the cover of InStyle, it's because of her love of the arts. Sure it is, Kate.

Golly, that reminds us of how Jennifer Aniston was on the cover of December's GQ wearing only a tie (which you can win, btw!), just because she's creative and free like that. Also, we hear she's deliriously happy and not desperate at all.

Oh -- their movies coming out at the same time as their magazine covers? Just delightful coincidences!

Guys - If you only have one suit, here's what you need to know

Filed under: Men, Videos, Celebrities with Style

Some guys wear a suit every day for work. Most likely, these fellas know what to look for in a good suit -- they're surrounded by them, and they've probably suit shopped more than once. But a lot of men wear suits only for certain occasions -- weddings, funerals, and maybe interviews -- and these are the guys we're talking to today.

If you're only going to have one suit hanging in your closet, make it the right suit. Whether you choose one that's hot or hideous, you're going to be spending a chunk of change on it, so you might as well look your best. And, take a cue from GQ -- dress like Cary Grant.

Victoria Secret takes over the September GQ cover

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

What in the world could push a headline about the so-hot and so-interesting Barack Obama to the very bottom of the cover of GQ? A bevy of Victoria Secret models in underwear, of course.

The September issue of GQ is expected to be one of their biggest ever, with Heidi Klum and her sexy lady friends like Adriana Lima, Marisa Miller, Karolina Kurkova, Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr, Izabel Goulart, Selita Ebanks, Isabelli Fontana, Candice Swanepole, Julia Stegner, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley gracing the (fold out) cover and several pages inside.

The spread was photographed by Gavin Bond and features a literally wild selection of outfits: zebra stripes, leopard spots, scales, feathers, and oh yeah, tons of skin.

We don't have much to add. This is more of a visual story, you know?

Crooked Monkey makes t-shirts for bendable primates

Whit Honea is a slacker, a borderline degenerate, and a daydream believer. He's also our resident expert on casual chic. If it's comfortable, and not heinous, he's all over it. He's quite charming, really.

Crooked Monkey Funny t-shirts is living the dream. The clothing company was formed by two buddies in 2005 and quickly shot through the ranks of the t-shirt elite. Within two years they were being featured in GQ magazine and popular stores like "Urban Outfitters, Nordstrom, Lord and Taylor, Kitson, ShopIntuition.com, Fred Segal and over 550 other fine retailers across the world (including Japan, Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia)."

Cameron Diaz flaunts it on GQ cover

Filed under: Style in the News, Men, Celebrities with Style

Airbrushed? Probably. Ultra sexy? Without a doubt. Kudos to GQ for a much needed Cameron Diaz swimsuit cover. The 35 year old actress is featured in the 2008 Hollywood Special issue, chatting with GQ about being single, boy-crazy, and her ass -- too bad it's in the UK edition.

Of course, we can't complain about the Adriana Lima cover here in the US. Maybe next month Cameron? One for the home team?

Style Icon: Stephen Colbert

Filed under: Men, Celebrities with Style

Stephen ColbertLadies and gentlemen, Stephen Colbert continues to take the country by storm... a glorious, red, white and blue storm. The Colbert Report has become a pop culture phenomenon and, although he must be exhausted by all this popularity, Colbert still manages to always look collected and very well-dressed. Thanks to him (and his wardrobe provided by Brooks Brothers), I have developed an obsession with crisp French cuffs -- which are surprisingly hard to find on women's dress shirts -- and have added several more conservative pieces to my wardrobe. The more tailored look provides an interesting contrast to my obnoxiously bright hair and worn Chuck Taylors.

Well, the man will grace GQ's upcoming May issue, the cover of which will be the most horrifying picture I have ever seen of him. I have included it in this post to strike that very same fear into all of your hearts. It is terrifying, is it not? However, I must admit that, even while carrying a very scary mini-him, Colbert looks sharp.
