Tangled Up in Blue

Yellow was supposed to be the big color this year. But bright blue -- and its first cousins teal and turquoise -- showed up on several guests at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala Monday night, making it look a little bit like a 1985 bridesmaids' gathering. Albeit with a bunch of really lovely bridesmaids.
While these shades of blue can make for stunning dresses, they can still be hard to pull off. Teal, when it veers toward green, can make white skin look pale, and not it a good way. And any shade of blue can be a nightmare to accessorize. Add black shoes and you are headed for the disco. Go light or colored, and, well, you're back in the bridal party.
Happily, these women made blue look beautiful, and certainly appropriate for a cool and rainy spring day.

This fall begins the march of the supermodels. While the majority can be seen striking a pose in some of the most coveted ad campaigns, the magazine covers -- where they tend to shine the brightest -- with their mugs on them are slowly starting to trickle out.
You knew it was coming eventually. That, however, doesn't make it any less uncomfortable for all of us.
