Golden Globe cheers for Helen Mirren!

Oh, the Golden Globes -- the gowns, the flashes, the speeches, the tediously long commercial breaks. Award show traditions aside, I would like to give a hearty two thumbs up to actress Helen Mirren who won Best Actress for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Elizabeth I. I'll be the first one to admit that before The Queen, I had never heard of Mirren. However, after seeing her elegant, tasteful and sexy appearances at a number of premiers, I've become quite smitten with her. For one, Helen Mirren makes me hold onto the hope that I too can be a smoking hot 61-year-old without sacrificing my soul the gods of plastic surgery.
The way that Helen made it work last night at the Golden Globes is the same way she makes it work at all of her appearances through a winning combination of good color (I'm unable to find her wearing black in any of the Google image pictures), subdued make-up and a confidence that says she doesn't need to be 26 to be beautiful.
Love them or hate them, it wouldn't be a red carpet event without the catty, bile of Melissa and Joan Rivers. While we all hope for some truly awful surprises this evening( a la Uma Thurman in the Heidi lederhosen and Bjork in the swan dress), the shrewish Rivers duo
