Critic's Choice - Five Great Fragrances For Spring

This past weekend, I slipped on open-toe sandals for the first time in 2009. I clipped the tags off of my new blue-and-white stripe-y Michael Kors tank, and I bought fresh flowers for my apartment.

That first deep breath of spring was in the air, and I was feeling it with a capital F.

If there were a way to bottle the initial excitement of the season, I would. But fortunately, a few perfumers have already gone to the trouble. I asked Tania Sanchez, co-author of the controversial book, Perfumes: The Guide, to let me know which scents are spring, uncorked.

5 Looks From Bride War Babes, Kate Hudson & Anne Hathaway - StyleLISTS

Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway, Bride Wars

Okay, so, the last few months we've been completely bombarded with Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson, thanks in large part to Kate's promiscuity and Anne's horrible ability to pick boyfriends their new movie Bride Wars. In the flick, the two are "besties" who let their dream weddings get in the way of their friendship. A wedding in the way of friendship?! No! But then again it is The Plaza. (Don't judge.)

Anyhoo, since the adorable twosome is pitted against each other in the film we decided to do the same in a real life scenario. A fashion scenario. Namely a "Who has the better style battle: Anne vs. Kate." Anddd go!

Pizza Hut is Raffling Off Five Gucci Bags - Gucci Hut?

Gucci teams up with Pizza HutGood news designer handbag fanatics who also love cheap pizza, it appears that the next time you order a medium or large 'Viva pizza' -- whatever that is -- you also get a chance to win one of "five authentic Gucci bags!" Hmm, why does that seem so completely messed up? Maybe because one company sells high end fashion clothing and accessories and one sells schlocky stuffed crust pizza? Yeah, we're not sure why either company agreed to this promotion.

Ewan McGregor's new fragrance smells manly - is that a good thing?

Filed under: Fragrance, Celebrities with Style

Somewhere in between impersonating Mad Max and helping to feed the children of the world, the intrepid Ewan McGregor managed to find time to team up with fragrance giant Davidoff to create a new cologne that takes you into "uncharted fragrance territory." It's called Adventure, and it's apparently for those who like to smell like a sweaty biker reclining in front of a mountainous landscape. Does that mean it smells like mountain air+exhaust+biker funk?

Tip of the day: Gucci Hysteria collection

Filed under: Style Tip of the Day

It is unclear whether we have seen a bag collection quite as beautiful or one caused such "hysteria" as Gucci's new fall collection. The brand's newest handbag collection is heavily influenced by the Middle Ages. It features gorgeous animal prints, sumptuous tapestries, and mysterious and royal colors like grape, gray, and chocolate. Each bag is also adorned with a Gucci crest.

Has Medieval Times ever sounded so sexy?

Rock (fashion) is dead

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

The LA Times published an article the other day about how rock stars are beginning to all look the same, and after a quick survey of many of today's top artists, we have to kind of agree. While we've spent many hours lamenting over how derivative and boring mainstream pop music is these days, we hadn't really taken notice of how conservative rock stars were dressing.

Where's the sex? Where's the wild hair? Where is the leather? Visionaries and rebels are few and far between in today's music scene. Instead of setting the rules for fashion, like many of their predecessors, most of today's music talent look like they're taking their cues from display windows at the mall. From John Mayer to Fergie, most of them look like they're heading to a photo shoot for one catalog or another -- and in a very real way, they are.

Claire Danes is the new face of Gucci jewelry

Did we fall asleep and dream ourselves back into the 90's when Claire Danes was the envy of teenage girls for kissing Leo DiCaprio in Romeo and Juliet and hanging out with dreamy Jordan every day on My So Called Life? We're not sure, but apparently Miss Danes is still celebrity enough to land a huge contract with Gucci.

Tommy Hilfiger launches online TV channel

Filed under: Style in the News

Fashion and music have gone hand and hand since as far back as we can remember.

Dame Vivienne Westwood helped usher in the punk style that is still very popular in the UK by dressing the Sex Pistols and Adam Ant; Jean Paul Gaultier outfitted Madonna in those now infamous cone-shaped bras for her world tours, and as of late, Gucci's Frida Giannini has been taped to design 20 different looks for Lenny Kravitz's upcoming 'Love Revolution' European tour.

Forbes makes their "It" bag picks

hermes kelly bagRecession, schmession. We're not tightening our belts for any looming economic downturn.

Er, rather, we're not tightening the straps on our handbags.

When it comes to handbags, some of us seem to live in an alternate universe where there is no such thing as "budget." Forbes has picked out this (and next) season's "It" bags - those bags for which we won't be shy about taking out a second mortgage on our homes.

Gas masks are the new black

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News

As the end of days draws closer and closer you probably find yourself wondering what you should wear. Is it formal? When the chemical warfare starts will the mall stay open? These are important questions, and that's why Diddo Velema has created this conceptual art project using Gucci and Louis Vuitton. There's got to be more to the final countdown than the Final Countdown, right?

Just like the bottles of water, rolls of toilet paper and case of Spam you have stashed in the basement, a gas mask is an important part of a well-stocked apocalypse survival readiness kit.

The thing is, you can't stay underground forever, eventually the Spam will gel beyond means of consumption and at some point you'll run out of shows on the TiVo. That's when you need to don your gear and head to the surface to see if anything besides cockroaches and Starbucks survived. Grab a raid latte and show all the mutants how to look fabulous.

It looks something like this:

Oh, and if these aren't enough, there's always this.

Designer Gas Masks is a conceptual art project. The masks are not real commercial products!
They are designed to be displayed in magazines and exhibited at galleries. They are not for sale.
