Retro Hairstyles - Yay or Nay?

Filed under: Hair Cut and Style

Can't touch this! Seriously stiff hair is big this year. From left to right, Lydia Hearst, Drew Barrymore, Kate Winslet and Agyness Deyn. Photos: Getty Images

Talk about old school glamour.

At the CFDAs, model/heiress Lydia Hearst was upholding 2009's new tradition of working a hairstyle suited to someone triple her age.

I'm not saying that Hearst's wavy, sculpted updo wasn't beautifully executed, I just felt it lacked the joie de vivre that I'd imagine a hot, rich, 24-year-old socialite might want to emote. Instead, the hair -- and consequentially, her entire look -- felt a bit stiff, safe, and dare I say it, staid.

But maybe I'm missing the point here. After all, this year, we've seen quite a few bright young things show up to fancy events with even fancier, by-the-books hairstyles (that my grandmother would be all over).

Playing Patty-Cake (Curls) with Charles Baker Strahan

Filed under: Videos, Hair Cut and Style

The best summer tress trend? Perfectly "tousled" hair. You know, that carefree, of-course-I-woke-up-like-this, Gisele kinda curl that instills instant hatred unless, of course, your locks look like that too.

Well, Herbal Essences has created a whole line of products to help us mere mortals attain this look -- but we can't tell you about that until they release it in July (shh, you didn't hear it here!).

But what we can do is show you how Herbal Essences' Celebrity Hairstylist Charles Baker Strahan -- the man behind the luminous manes of Leighton Meester, Mariah Carey, Kristen Bell and Blake Lively -- creates the tousled look with what he calls "Patty-cake Curls," which he gamely demonstrates in our exclusive video, above. Just spritz in a spray gel or a hairspray with a flexible hold, grab your straightening iron and follow Charles' lead.

Very chic. Get ready for the haters.

Beyonce's million dollar wig collection

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Hair Cut and Style

Beyonce pretty much always looks like a million bucks, and her engagement ring is reported to be worth about five million bucks, so we're not all that surprised to hear that B has a climate-controlled closet filled with about a million dollars' worth of high-end hair.

Some of her wigs are worth over $10,000 on their own due to the fact that most are custom made from real hair. And, you know, it's probably a good investment for Beyonce -- she changes her 'do practically daily, and it's surely a whole lot easier to take a new wig out of her closet than have to see a hairstylist and have a brand new look created.

Tip of the Day: Get your buns in shape

Filed under: Hair Care, Style Tip of the Day, Beauty Tips, Hair Cut and Style

Fashion week doesn't only bring on clothing trends. No, no friend. It also shows us just how to wear our hair and makeup for the next few months too.

So what exactly are the top hair trends for the spring season? The simple bun and long, straight hair parted right down the middle. Fabulously easy indeed.

The way to get the long, straight hair look is obvious. Dry your hair and use your straightening iron! Voila! Needn't say more.

The bun on the other hand was reincarnated dozens of different way. We saw librarian buns, side buns, braided buns, messy buns, sleek buns, and pouf buns. This bun-o-mania means that us lay folk at home can A) do the look easily ourselves and B) stylize to suit our personalities.

So check out the gallery, find a bun that looks good to you, and rock it!
