Get dressed like Kate Moss

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrities with Style

One would imagine that choosing an outfit would be difficult for Kate Moss. Not that she wouldn't look pretty fabulous in absolutely anything, because she would, of course. But, can you imagine her closet? It would take us all day to choose from all those choices, but not Kate.

Uber-high heels - Is pain the price of fashion?

Not all fashionistas wear heels, but we doubt any stylish woman's eyes don't light up a little when she sees a really beautiful stiletto. Really high heels are really a work of art -- as is walking in them. But, that's not stopping women around the world from reaching for heels that have half a foot or more of height.

Self-defense stilettos

When we heard about Self-Defense Stilettos, we have to admit that we got really excited. We pictured shoes with a James Bond-esque component, like a button to shoot pepper spray out of the heel or a hidden compartment in the platform for a stun gun or something.

Galoshes for your... heels?

SwimsWe've previously marveled at Swim's creations, keeping our favorite shoes safe from dangerous water on rainy days, but now we have even more reason to absolutely love them. Check out these new designs that look better than ever, evolved from their basic ballerina-style slip-ons. These rubber coverings look easy to pull on and slip off on days when you want to protect your shoes from rain, snow or mud.

A notable one is the new covering made specially for heels. The cut has been specialized to flatter just about every type of high-heeled shoe, tempting just about anyone to wear these even when the weather isn't so bad. Heck, even the additional traction along the bottom has been lovingly detailed into a street map. Now that's attention to detail.

Visit the Swims store for more details of this upcoming design and purchase their currently available ballerina-style galoshes. NOTCOT and Frizzifrizzi have additional pictures for drooling purposes.

Pleaser platform heels take it to the next (lowest) level

Filed under: Shoes, Steals and Deals

While browsing Endless.com the other day--which, by the way, has an excellent clearance section right now--we came across this truly astonishing pair of platform heels. Pleaser, the company that manufactures them, specializes in shoes that only an on-duty stripper can get away with wearing. But this pair, dubbed "Adore," really goes above and beyond their typical offerings of thigh-high pleather boots and faux-maribou slides.

Not only does this pair feature clear heels (which, like clear bra straps, should generally be avoided), but inside the 2 1/2 inch platforms are tiny little roses. And they can be yours for just $32.97!

If you are yearning to stand seven inches taller without the assistance of stilts, these may be the shoes for you. If you are upset that you were born post-disco era and never had the chance to wear platforms boots with goldfish in them, these may be the shoes for you. If you spend a lot of time strolling Santa Monica Boulevard at two in the morning, these may be the shoes for you. And, if you are none of these things, we hope you were as amused as we were by the fact that this pair of shoes actually exists.

Walk in heels like the ladies of Sex and the City

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Celebrities with Style

High heels are sexy -- no doubt. However, if you're not walking in them properly, the sexiness of the shoe won't matter -- everyone will be watching you and betting on how long it will take before you wipe out. Or, they'll be laughing at how awkward, clumsy, and out of place you look.

But wait! Don't put your stilettos in storage! We can help you look like you belong with the cast of Sex and the City. Check out the gallery for tips on how to walk in high heels like Carrie Bradshaw (plus, you can check out some really cute shoes!).

(Disclaimer: The end of the video is selling a Legwork video, which we're sure is fine, but that's totally not why we put the video on here -- it's just a short, cool little video showing how to walk in heels. Promise!)

CAMiLEON Heels: A fusion of fashion and function for your feet

We love high heels. We love wearing high heels. We just don't always love walking in high heels. And, of course, we could always carry a pair of flip flops or origami emergency shoes around with us, sometimes that's just not feasible. What to do then? Suffer? We think not -- meet our new favorite shoe, CAMiLEON Heels!

What do high heels and 600 pound gorillas have in common?

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Celebrities with Style

There's no doubt that we love the way our legs look in extremely high heels -- put us in a 4" or 5" heel, and we'll show you legs that seem to go on forever, like our pal Gwyneth Paltrow over to the right. However, the New York Times recently had an article about the high, high heel and how women walk in them.

And, of course, the answer is the same as how one would move a 600 pound gorilla -- very carefully.

Ugly, comfortable shoes are never fashionable, frequently expensive

In this latest installment reporter Christina Binkley did a comparison of several expensive high heels that are purported to be "comfortable."

Wear high heels! You'll have better sex

Wish you were getting more action in the bedroom? Maybe it's time to change your footwear. Apparently women who wear high heels have better sex -- and not just because you legs look hot in stilettos.

You might think this is information I overheard at a sports bar, but in fact the conclusion is based on research -- by scientists! I kid you not, someone actually paid to do a study comparing high heels and sex. And in that study, lead by Dr Maria Cerruto of the University of Verona, found that wearing "moderately high heeled shoes" makes for better bedroom antics.

The reason, says Dr Cerruto, is that wearing heels "directly works the pleasure muscles linked to orgasm." So ladies, if you need a little umph between the sheets, try a pair of heels, and give your pelvic muscles a workout.

Shoes of the Day: Giuseppe Zanotti Black Satin Platfrom Pumps

giuseppe zanotti black satin platform pumpThe perfect party shoe to ring in 2008 is the one that you can wear around the house as you entertain your guests, and wear downtown when you make a short appearance at the black-tie ball, and hold up the rest of the night as you dance into the morning at the club.

Giuseppe Zanotti's Black Satin Platform Pump is just that one. A sweet, rounded peep-toe lets it work the living room at your home cocktail party, the sparkling crystal brooch dresses is up for the black-tie affair, and the 4¼" heel is slightly offset with a ½" platform in the front so it won't be backbreaking when you're letting loose on the dancefloor just past midnight and beyond.

Available from Bluefly for $500..

Styles that Stick: High-heel pumps

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Vintage and Retro

marc jacobs black pumpsA girl can never have too many pairs of shoes. Some may argue with that logic, but it's true. Shoes can make a dull outfit exciting; they can entice the opposite sex, and they can make the same sex extremely jealous. Shoes are a powerful thing. Whether you have ten pairs or 200 pairs, there is one pair of shoes that every closet needs to have -- the classic high-heel black pump.

High heels themselves are a classic, as they originated back in the 1500s when their main function was to keep a rider's foot from slipping out their stirrups. In 1533 wife of the Duke of Orleans, Catherine de' Medici, commissioned a cobbler to make her a pair of heels for her wedding. Catherine wasn't planning on riding any horses. Oh no, she wanted to appear taller, and then the fashionable high-heel shoe was born.

The high-heel pretty much went into hiding until the 1950s, but once it came back it stuck. The classic high heel pump can be worn with practically any outfit: a business suit, a pair of jeans, or a lovely dress. The best part about this classic shoe is you can find it anywhere and at any price range -- and right now I am loving this pair from Jimmy Choo.

The bad idea handbag

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

Have you ever seen the Saturday Night Live skit "Bad Idea Jeans"? If you haven't, you should check it out on YouTube because it's quite funny.

If the fictitious company behind Bad Idea Jeans decided to get in the handbag business, I'm pretty sure that the A'N'D High Heel Shoulder purse would be among its first designs.

True to its name, the High Heel Shoulder purse has a high heel fused to the bottom of the bag.

(Not that I want to play semantics with this one, but I think the name of this bag should technically be the Kitten Heel Shoulder purse since the term "high heels" generally refers to a shoe with a stack of more than two inches.)

But alas, the problem with this bag isn't the name -- it's the concept. Presumably, the spark plug who came up with this bag -- no doubt a man -- thought that if women liked shoes and handbags, they would probably LOVE a $370 accessory that combines both.

Sheesh, talk about a Bad Idea handbag.

Shoes that could double as weapons: cone heels

Pointy cone heels aren't a new idea, but until now they've been more of a novelty item than a common sight. But prepare for an invasion of the super-pointy cones this summer!

There's just something about having your legs appear to be growing out of two ice cream cones that makes a girl feel sexy. But if you're going to wear these, please be careful. I don't care how good you look, if you step on your date's foot with one of these things while you're dancing, it's not going to be pretty.

The platform, cone heel Lanvin sandals shown above are available from Browns for about $900.00 (and sadly no, that doesn't include liability insurance.)
