Richie Rich wants you to dance in his shoes

Filed under: Style in the News

Last season, the crazy cool duo behind Heatherette decided not to show at Bryant Park. This was quite sad on so many different levels, but specifically because their upbeat and crazy shows have always been things of dreams.

The decision not to show also caused many to speculate that designers had parted ways. And the fact that the brand let go of its publicists doesn't help the situation either. But alas, this is suppose to be all "false."Or at least that's what they would like for us to believe.

Perez's Hot Topic launch draws 7

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Celebrities with Style

As predicted by our own Whit Honea, Perez Hilton's celebrity line looks like it's going to crash and burn in true blog-worthy fashion. According to New York Magazine, a grand total of 7 loyal fans showed up at the LA Hot Topic where Perez was hanging out to celebrate the launch. Frankly, we're a little embarrassed for him. Here's what a supposed Hot Topic employee had to say about the fiasco:

"Mario was BEYOND upset texting and DEMENDING the right water, food,ETC he was a rude royal pain in the ass and BEYOND crass... My manager was trying to get people to come in to meet Perez by handing out $5 gift cards NO ONE WANTED TO MEET HIM! ...he left around 8:45PM without saying goodbye to anyone & looked like he had been crying like the little bitch he is. We sold a grand total of $6.45 of Perez Hilton items between 6PM - 9PM. My manager has already talked about discounting his 'line'!"

Will Hot Topic survive Perez Hilton?

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Style in the News, Clothing, Videos, Celebrities with Style

Perez Hilton's new "fashion" line at Hot Topic is geared towards his demographic of readers, young, female and cheap. We think it is also safe to assume that they are easily persuaded to buy crap.

In a video interview and vanity session Perez the pot insults the kettle that is pseudo-celebrity. He basically calls out Heidi Montag and Lauren Conrad and claims that his brand smells better. We think they all stink about the same.

Voodoo doll toothpick holder, the latest in revenge party accesories

The next time you're setting up for a night of wine, cheese and smack talk, pull out this functional and provocative conversation piece.

OUCH! The voodoo doll toothpick holder looks like it was designed by the Tim Burton design studio for Hot Topic, with it's sad, tilting head and sewn-up eyes and mouth.

It's a little creepy, but it's even more cool. Let your guests enjoy hors d'oeuvres with clean fingers and eliminate pesky problems like:

  • cheating spouse
  • evil boss
  • loud neighbors
  • telemarketers
  • archenemies

It works like magic! Only, you know, sinister.

Fashion victims: emo kids under attack in Latin America

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Jeans

You might think emo kids have it tough here in the States. They always look awkward and every once and while they might get dirty looks, or people yelling insults at them from passing cars -- but they've nothing on their counterparts in Mexico and Chile. In Latin America, your choice to shop at Hot Topic can make you a target of mob violence.

No one is sure exactly how the violence against Pete Wentz wanabees got started, but a lot of it being blamed on a TV personality name Kristoff. Sometime after he went off on a rant about how emo sucks, mobs of punk and metal fans have been descending on the poor little emo kids and giving them the ol' beat down. Kristoff has called for an end to the violence, but it seems like the sins of emo-fashion will not go unpunished.

Lost style: One Hit Wonder

Ah, the complicated attire of an ex-rock star -- it's a delicate balance of Hot Topic and Urban Outfitters. Your line is mostly t-shirts, jeans, nail polish, and emo bracelets. It sounds simple, but it's trickier than you might think. Each outfit holds subtle clues about the inner demons that might be lingering around from your days on tour.

First, you've got to have a black hoodie for those cold rainy days when you don't have any smack and your withdrawal symptoms are really flaring up. Plus, black hoodies make you look edgier. If you're a has-been from a hard rock band named Drive Shaft, it would just be bad form to look like a normal well-adjusted human being. Most days, a tight fitting graphic tee will do, but other days it's a v-neck, or maybe sleeveless. These are the subtle ways of master t-shirt connoisseur.

Many people on the island have worn holes in their jeans. Charlie, on the other hand, was hurled from the plane with a whole collection of those pre-worn, boot-cut jeans -- kind of an unfortunate choice, because they tear up pretty quick in a survival situation.

Fall Out Boy makes design debut

If you've ever felt the need to dress like a pre-teen living in a Hot Topic clearance rack but wanted to pay a hell of a lot more, look no further! Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz has just made his fashion debut at New York Fashion Week, perfect for the kids looking to have something new match their white belts and squeaky-clean Chucks. Wentz's label, Clandestine Industries, has plenty of merchandise available online. I think what really caught my eye was the "Razor Bling Necklace", 'cause nothing says style like romanticized suicide.

Oh, Pete. You're always good for a laugh.
