HOUSE OF HOLLAND

MAKEUP: LUCIA PICA FOR M.A.C

BEAUTY SNAPSHOT:
From the neck up, she's a lady

house of holland face chartTHE SCOOP: I can't help but think of art class when reporting on House of Holland's fall collection. On the other hand, if you look at the models from the neck up, you might feel as Lucia Pica did: "she's a polished sophisticated woman, a femme fatale." While the clothes were a straight-up homage to Pantone chips, the beauty was classically feminine. Pica gave us an unexpected jolt of deep burgundy on the lips and smoky eyes that were inspired by the 1920's. I guess this is the ultimate expression of Forrest Gump-fashion week is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get.

GET THE LOOK - MAKEUP:
For the eyes, Pica used M.A.C Pro Chromaline in Black Black and White, mixed together and blended over a layer of Vaseline in a round 1920's shape over the eyelids creating a sheer gray wash. She dabbed Clear Lipglass under the inner corners of the eyes. She defined the face with Sculpting Powder in Sculpt, low on the cheekbones. To complete the look, Pica painted on Lipstick in Cyber with a brush for a precise 1920's shape, then patted on Lip Mix in Crimson over the first layer to create a more reddish purple.

Holland Features Nude Portraits of Lagerfeld, Deyn in Upcoming Collection

Henry Holland's nude portrait of Karl LagerfeldA nude portrait of Karl Lagerfeld? Not sure we're ready to go there, but apparently there are plenty of other fashion groupies out there who want Karl in any form available -- t-shirt, teddy bear, or puppet. Those are exactly the fashion obsessed masses that Henry Holland knows how to connect with, and they're probably probably going to flip when they see his latest collection: a series of tees that feature all of your favorite fashion icons in the buff (their privates modestly covered by flowers).

I'm sick of you, Gareth Pugh

Filed under: Runway Trends, Style in the News

If you've followed Fashion Week in London, I'm sure you came across something about designer Gareth Pugh. In addition to having his own painfully theatrical and ostentatious label, Pugh also designs for House of Holland.

At House of Holland's ready-to-wear show earlier this week, Pugh sent his models down the runway wearing brightly colored, screen-printed t-shirts emblazoned with rhymes about popular models. For instance, one gamine sported a tee that read: Wham Bam Thank You Stam (referring, of course, to the lovely Jessica Stam). Another read "I've got more than a handful for Naomi Campbell."

Boring, isn't it?

And yet every fashion writer from L.A. to Tokyo seems to have their panties in a bunch over his so-called genius. As far as I can tell, he seems like just another uninspired, mildly ironic hipster with a mediocre sense of rhyme and meter -- a profile that also describes every half-baked indie rocker I've ever met.

Is he really worth the hype? No!

This praise is askew, Gareth Pugh.

When hot rhymes meet cool tees

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Celebrities with Style

How now, brown cow? Or as they say at House of Holland, "Yoo Hoo Gareth Pugh."

If you haven't heard of the label House of Holland, you're also probably unfamiliar with designer Gareth Pugh's rhyme-emblazoned graphic tees. The inspiration behind the line of rhyming tees began when Pugh appeared at the Spring 2007 shows wearing a top that read: "Get yer freak on Giles Deacon!" Deacon -- another designer -- responded in turn by creating a shirt that read: "Uhu Gareth Pugh."
