Mizrahi to go high and low

Filed under: Stores We Love, Style in the News

Designer Issac Mizrahi has plotted his fashion comeback with a new Spring/Summer 2007 collection. In the new line, Mizrahi plans to completely revolutionize what we think of as a designer collection.

Sounds ambitious? It is! Instead of creating two lines with two difference price-points (one high, one low), Mizrahi plans to make a single collection with items that sell for as little as $5 to as much as $5000.

I have to hand it to Mizrahi for his innovation on this one. I suspect that this blended collection will be so huge with consumers that eventually other designers will find themselves copying the model. After all, if there is anything to be learned from the simultaneous decline of Rochas and rise of Target's Go International line, it's that creating exclusively high-end pieces is neither profitable nor particularly sustainable.

Budget designers: who will be next?

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

When Issac Mizrahi teamed up with Target to create a budget-friendly line of trendy clothes, he started a revolution in the world of fashion. But the present king of affordable fashion can't hold court forever, especially with designer heavy-weights like Nicole Miller and Vera Wang also vying for mid-range market domination. After all, Nicole Miller now has an exclusive designer range, which is sold at J.C. Penney while Wang's line for Kohl's is set to launch in 2007.

Perhaps then this question is worth asking: Who do you think is next?

If I were in charge of operations over at Target or H&M (which I'm not!), I would be heavily courting both Michael Kors and Tim Gunn. With their Project Runway popularity, I can imagine that Gunn and Kors would cause the kind of consumer hysteria which would make Stella McCartney's H&M launch seem like no big deal.

Make it work, Tim!

Isaac Mizrahi: The new face of anti-aging

Filed under: Men, Cosmetics, Skin Care

About five years ago, StriVectin-SD took the anti-aging world by storm when it introduced a stretch mark creme which could be used to reduce wrinkles. Since that time, women have been buying up the unusual salve in droves, which has made it one of the cosmetic industry's best-selling products.

And now that best-selling product is about to be marketed to men. To do so, StriVectin-SD has picked up a new poster child -- none other than designer-cum-magazine editor Issac Mizrahi. The company hopes that Mizrahi's decidedly likable, if not slightly schleppy appeal, will help boost sales in the immediate future.

So, what do you think, fellas -- does Issac Mizrahi make you want to buy a $50 wrinkle cream?
