Michelle Obama Style - The First Lady Goes Sunny in Yellow

Michelle Obama may be surrounded by the wives of world leaders at the G8 L'Aquila Summit in Italy, but the First Lady manages to stand out, style-wise, in her summery ensemble!

To visit the ruins at Palazzo del Governo today (July 9), Mrs. O opted for a yellow and white floral Liz Claiborne cardigan (she loves her cardis) over a simple yellow tank, which she paired with J. Crew's "Gâteau" cotton sateen skirt. (The trendy tiered piece is already sold out!).

Clearly going by the expression "When in Rome," Mrs. O fastened her cardigan with a beaded brooch by Italian fashion house Moschino.

Mixing American designers with Italian accessories -- the First Lady proves she knows a thing or two about diplomacy!

Versace CEO Steps Down

Versace is officially in the market for a new CEO. Giancarlo Di Risio has stepped down from the position, reports WWD.

Di Risio joined the company in 2004, but WWD has been covering the possibility of a shakeup of the executive team since mid-May.

In fact, an earlier WWD article stated that there were strategic differences between the family-owned company. and its CEO. Guess they were right.

Italian fashion houses have seen a recent reshuffling of the executive position. Some even speculate that Di Risio could be a possible candidate for the CEO position at Roberto Cavalli.

Racy Relish Ads Cause Controversy in Rio - Fashion Police Brutality

Filed under: Style in the News

The Relish ad featuring Rio de Janeiro cops molesting womenThe latest fashion ads causing an uproar don't come from the likes of Tom Ford. Rather, these perverted dandies come from a small Italian fashion label named Relish, and they're so offensive that even the mayor of Rio de Janeiro is asking that the billboards be taken down. Of course, part of the reason Mayor Eduardo Paes is upset could be the fact that the ads feature men dressed as Rio cops. The other part is, of course, the fact that the cops are molesting women.

$43,000 Suit Shows Everyone that You Could be a Banking CEO Too

a less expensive Brioni grey pinstripe suit at Nieman MarcusAre you a billionaire trying to set himself apart from all the ordinary millionaires out there these days? Or perhaps you want to show a potential employer that you have the horrible money management skills to run one of today's top financial institution into the ground? Well, it doesn't take an $87,000 area rug like that dude from Merrill Lynch bought. You could be making the same fashion statement for half of the price with a mindnumbingly expensive suit from Brioni.

Parajumpers Road Test

Annie Scott in a Parajumpers jacket
When Parajumpers -- named for the 210th Rescue Squadron in Anchorage, Alaska -- sent us a sample of their charming short parka, we decided to give it a test that we doubt Robert Redford, Denise Richards, or Jennifer Garner (all Parajumpers fans) did: We wore it ice skating in Minnesota.

Diesel designs a Fiat - interior not made from overpriced jeans

Every so often, we see a US automaker team up with a clothing brand, but usually it's something boring and safe like Eddie Bauer. In Europe, you're more likely to see automakers team up with designers that have a little more sex appeal -- like the latest project in which Fiat has teamed up with Diesel to design a flashy, fashion-forward hatchback. With the Fiat 500 Diesel edition, the Italian luxury brand is taking its lifestyle aspirations to a whole new level.

As you can see, the Fiat (also Italian) '500 by DIESEL' is a pretty sleek and youthful-looking whip, so we imagine this move is probably targeted towards the 20-35 demographic. Still, when was the last time you equated Diesel with affordability? Or even modestly overvalued merchandise. Hmm, hopefully it won't be too pricey. The car will be equipped with exclusive Diesel hupcaps featuring their mohican logo and an interior stitched with yellow threat to remind us of those jeans we love so much.

True to its name, the vehicle is offered with an optional diesel engine. Now, will it be available in the US?

Italian activists tell Pope Benedict to ditch the fur cape

Filed under: Accessories, Celebrities with Style

Groups like PETA like to give fur-wearing Hollywood types a hard time -- but rarely do they try to mess with people as powerful as the head of the Roman Catholic Church. That's right, an Italian animal rights group AIDAA is trying to tell the Pope what to wear. They say he should ditch the fur cape that Popes have been wearing for hundreds of years as a sign of "love and peace to give a strong signal towards the protection of animals and the environment through a small but very significant personal sacrifice."

The way we see it, the Pope has three options. One: ignore the fur people, making them extra annoyed -- but hey Pope's are here to make everyone happy. Two: get a fake fur cape. For some reason, it seems like that would compromise the Pope's historical credibility. Three: ditch the cape all together, a move that's hardly fitting for the world's number one religious super hero. This is a tough one.

Imagine you were the Pope -- what would you do?

Giorgio says Italians are too scraggly

Italian names may rule the fashion industry, but that doesn't mean that the average joe is some kind of fashion dynamo. According to Giorgio Armani -- he's a shirtless slob. At least, that's what he told the Telegraph about the rampant casualness going on in the Italian fashion centers these days.

The 73 year old Global Fashion Leader thinks that Italy's hold on fashion elegance is slipping as a result of its increasingly lax attitude towards personal appearance. From the article:

"It is time to straighten ourselves out, we are too slovenly... Everything seems to be allowed, even eating and drinking in a church square while stripped to the waist."

Manuel Bozzi debuts 'University of Rock 'n' Roll' collection

If rock is dead, Manuel Bozzi didn't get the memo -- or maybe Italian designer just doesn't care. Really, aside from the reference to a pretty mediocre Jack Black movie, we think his University of Rock 'n' Roll collection does a pretty good job capturing the mysticism of classic rock in accessories you might actually wear. Some of the designs are more subtle than others, but most of them don't look like they came from Hot Topic.

His inspiration for this season's collection is an imaginary university where one can go to learn the ways of Rock. Most of his inspiration is drawn from the classic styles of the 60's and 70's -- and of course icons like LV model Keith Richards. All of his pieces are meant to get cooler with age, i.e. silver styles that tarnish, leather that looks better as it wears. We really like the alligator belt buckle.

There's one thing that troubles us about this University of Rock 'n' Roll concept: if there was such a university, wouldn't the students drop out, because that's the most rock 'n' roll thing to do?

Italy bans Tom Ford ad

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Considering that the other ads in this campaign consisted of images like a woman grabbing a man's crotch, and a nude woman ironing while a man smokes a cigar and drinks some champagne -- it's hard to understand why the Italian Advertising Institute singled out this ad for banishment. For some weird reason, this is the straw that broke the camels back.

Three women's magazines that contain the banned ad have already been published, but the rest will have to be re-printed, or else be put on the shelf with the nudie magazines. Geez, that's a lot of wasted paper. We have to hand it to Ford, not only does he make great suits and sunglasses that you can find at Costco, but he turns out some of the most provocatively sexy ads around.

Most.fashionable.urinal.ever

It's been far too long since someone sat down and put some serious artistic thought into peeing standing up. So it's great that this Italian sculptor realized that the urinal was way overdue for a redesign. Seriously, this is the most artful urinal design the world has ever seen -- not that there have been very many good ones. It seems like ever since Duchamp hung that urinal upside down in Paris, it's all been down hill -- until now.

Designer Massimiliano De Falco brings hints of origami into his very modern urinal design. It's called the Bat(h)man, and it has nothing to do with superheroes -- except maybe that maybe Bruce Wayne would probably put one in his mansion. I know I would, if I were him.

This welded-steel contraption would definitely enhance the style factor of the men's room. I would definitely consider putting a splash guard across the back of it though, or that wall is not going to be happy.

Vogue imitates Britney, Paris, Lindsay & co flashing their naughty bits

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Don't you just love watching Hollywood celebutants running in and out of rehab, falling down drunk, and flashing the paparazzi sans underwear? Apparently so does Steve Meisel, the famous fashion photographer. In a recent shoot for Italian Vogue, the photographer took inspiration from the world's most infamous celebrity train wrecks -- Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.

Remember when Britney went crazy and shaved her head? It's in there. Remember when Paris, then Britney, then Lindsay, all forgot to wear underwear as they bounced around LA nightclubs? That's in there, too. Only in Meisel's shoot, the strung-out celebs are replaced by fashion models.

So, does this mean rehab is trendy?
