The Return of the Baggy Pants?

Phillip Lim's olive baggy trousersA few weeks ago at the Grammys, Jay-Z showcased his ode against the knot-crushing restrictiveness of the skinny jean. Like usual, his deeply meaningful fashion commentary lead us into a long rant about the future of men's pants and that perhaps we're approaching the end of the skinny jeans era. Apparently, we're not alone in that opinion. The news coming out of London Fashion Week indicates that many designers are pushing styles with pleats and room for your bankroll.

Beyonce's ring is serious bling!

While the couple has done a great job keeping first their relationship and then their marriage under wraps and totally off limits to the press, they are flashy about one thing -- their jewelry. For Beyonce's engagement to Jay-Z he gave her an 18 carat flawless diamond ring worth over $4 million dollars!

I want that! Jay-Z's scarves

Little bro Boyd, a rap fanatic who we swear will be the next big producer, has been asking where rappers like Jay-Z get the scarves they rock.

Most rap super stars like Jay-Z, Lupe Fiasco, and Dipset wear scarves by Louis Vuitton and Gucci. You can also try Urban Outfitters for something affordable.

Now that we've dropped a little knowledge on you like a big sister should, save your dough stacks and go get a cashmere Gucci scarf!

Any excuse for a new ring

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Lately we've been hearing about "commitment" or "promise" rings for people who want an indication of how serious their relationship is, but don't want to go all diamonds and white taffeta.

This post at Refinery29 is a good example of how people are looking for more creative styles. We've always loved those Zoe Chicco stackable rings, and this pink tourmaline ring by Rajiv Arora would make us say yes in a heartbeat.

Angelina's nutty Gara Danielle snake ring jumps to mind. Even if she doesn't wear it as a commitment ring, she should. Although, knowing Pitt and Jolie, they'll more likely to get rings tattoo'd on like Beyonce and Jay-Z.

PETA sends Beyonce a wedding gift

Filed under: Haute Home, Celebrities with Style

Despite all the 'are they really married?' rumors that are flying around the internet, we feel it's safe to say that Beyonce and Jay-Z have actually tied the knot. Why do we suddenly feel so confident? Because PETA sent Beyonce a wedding gift -- and when the uber-informed PETA seems sure, we figure it's a safe bet. So, what did they send the fur-loving superstar who, consequently, was a victim of one of their most sneaky celeb-attacks yet? A faux-fur throw of course.

In 2006, PETA won a charity auction on Ebay to eat lunch with the pop diva and jumped on the opportunity to show Beyonce one of their famously graphic DVDs about animal slaughter. Now, with this wedding gift, we have to wonder if PETA has gone soft. It's hard to tell whether the gift was meant to be tongue-in-cheek or not, but we interpret this as a sincere gesture of good will from the animal rights org. Maybe they're just afraid to be on Jay-Z's bad side? We would be.

Beyoncé causes trouble at Versace runway show

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

You know that annoying person who shows up late to a movie, or play, or whatever. Everyone else who managed to get there on time is seated, quiet, and ready to go -- but someone had to wander in five minutes late and hold everything up. Grr. What gives? How hard is it to show up before something starts? Sit down and shut up already, I'm trying to watch!

On Saturday, that annoying person was Beyoncé, who, along with Jay-Z and her bodyguard, held up the Versace men's collection runway show in Milan. Normally that wouldn't be the end of the world -- after all, it's a big deal for designers when celebs check out their runway shows, so I'm sure everyone was happy to accommodate such a high-profile late arrival.

However, there weren't enough seats, so some poor sap had to get bumped in order for Beyoncé's bodyguard to sit down. Unfortunately for Versace, the sap that lost his seat was none other than Tommy Fazio, the men's fashion director for Bergdorf Goodman (a luxury clothing store). When he was asked to get up, Fazio apparently said: "Fine -- I don't stand at shows, so please escort me to the door."

Looks like Bergdorf Goodman won't be carrying any Versace this season.

Oops.

Fashionspotting at the All-Star Game

The NBA All-Star game this weekend offered a unique chance to do some style spotting among the celebs who were there to watch the game and be seen by the crowds. The game offered celebs a chance to be casual but also be glam knowing that the would be captured by the photographers. The most interesting fashion choice has to be Prince's hat. After the general ridicule he received for the bandanna he wore during the rainy Super Bowl you might think Price might forgo the headgear for a while. Instead he shows up in this number. In his defense Deion Sanders also wore a similar brimmed hat (his was white) but his was more fedora than cloche. After the jump, some more pics from the game.

Jay-Z finds trouble with fur

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrities with Style

When it comes to luxury items, you have to watch out for fakes. But for rapper Jay-Z, the opposite is true. According to the Humane Society of the United States, Jay-Z's Rocawear faux-fur jacket is actually made from real raccoon dog fur! (Yes, you read that correctly -- something thought to be fake is actually real...)

Using mass spectrometry techniques, the Humane Society determined that the fur in Jay-Z's Rocawear jackets came from a canine species native to Asia that resembles a raccoon. This so-called raccoon dog is often skinned alive for its pelt.

Jay-Z was informed of the fur situation last week, and as of today, the jacket is no longer available on the Rocawear website. A Rocawear representative released a statement suggesting that the company had no idea that fur was from raccoon dogs, and that would be taking immediate steps to pull the coat and to prevent the future use of raccoon dog fur.

And all of that sounds great, but it makes me wonder whether or not Rocawear has any plans to get in touch with their online customers about the jacket situation. If I had purchased a coat thinking it was fake, I would want to know, and I'd also want my money back...

What bubbly will you be drinking New Year?

As midnight nears on New Year's Eve, you need at least two things: someone you fancy at the ready (to kiss when the ball drops) and a glass of champagne. Since December 31 only strikes once a year, you've got so little time and so many choices ...

There's the ever-present Dom Perignon. There's Jay-Z's former favorite, Cristal. There's Perrier-Jouet. There's the omnipresent Veuve Cliquot. What will you do?

Me, I save a few bucks and go for Spanish cava. It's not champagne -- as the vignerons of Champagne (and their public relations folks in the US) will remind you, the term "Champange" can only be used for bubbly from the Champagne region. Still, good cava is delicious -- crisp and bubbly and light -- at a fraction of the cost of a "real" champagne. While purists might look down on me, I get to look down at my wallet on January 1 and smile smugly.

So how about it, readers? What bubbly will you drink for New Year?
