Karl Lagerfeld in Puppet Form on Etsy - Daily Obsession

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Gift Guides, Daily Obsession

What's creepier than obsessing over eccentric, ponytail-wearing super designer Karl "the Kaiser" Lagerfeld? How about obsessing over a tiny felt finger puppet crafted in his image? Yes, it's kind of strange to think of cuddling up and playing designer with a fuzzy Karl puppet, but for some reason, we can't help but think this little doll is going to make somebody rich -- or at least make them a little extra Christmas cash.

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style, Product Reviews, Books, Daily Obsession, Must Haves

After months of anticipation, we finally received our very own copy of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's not-just-for-your-coffee-table book. And, as expected, we love it. Influence is a hardcover masterpiece – featuring interviews with the world's most famous designers, artists, photographers, and taste-makers including: designer Diane von Furstenberg, shoe maven Christian Louboutin, and cheeky photographer Terry Richardson.

As Ashley explained: "We want this book to be something that is filled with interesting things about the art world and fashion. I'd like to think that this book is inspiring people to read about or focus on other things than just the over-saturated, scandal-driving media."

Karl Lagerfeld mural at Kiss & Fly

Filed under: Events: On the Scene

Fashion maestro Karl Lagerfeld has designed a 11' 3" x 8' 3.5" mural (shown above) for the redesigned Kiss & Fly nightclub. The site--inspired by Roman art history and design--also features an artist's rendering of the Sistine Chapel. If that's not enough to pique your interest, Kiss & Fly is the new flagship club in New York for Dom Pérignon. There's even $18,000 bottles of bubbly on display (yeah, they're for sale). Click through for an image gallery and more deets.

Yummie Tummie smooths away your muffin top

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrities with Style, Product Reviews, Flatter Your Figure

By now, we know that when Oprah says something is good, it's great. Once again she hit the nail on the head when she and Heidi Klum picked Yummie Tummie to be one of Oprah's Top Picks.

Yummie Tummie is shapewear, but it's incredibly wearable. Unlike Spanx, which are vitally necessary but let's admit it, painful, Yummie Tummie tops are comfortable. At the same time, they smooth and control muffin top in a way that we hadn't realized was possible.

Lagerfeld doesn't talk to journalists that stink

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

His wildly eccentric personality and ultra confident belief in his own skills have launched Karl Lagerfeld -- fingerless gloves and all -- into rockstar status in the world of pop culture. He's appearing on t-shirts, videogames, etc. It's a good thing that he's not letting it all go to his head.

Nope, according to this article in fashionologie, Karl's still his same old humble and gracious self. You know, the guy who designs a $1,500 teddy bear. They were able to score an interview with the busy man, who of course made them wait forever, but they got a few interestingly candid quotes from the genius mind of Lagerfeld. Let's see what we can learn from a trip inside Karl's brain -- after the break.

Gwyneth Paltrow wears Karl Lagerfeld's design for a good cause

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style, Style for a Cause

Gwyneth Paltrow might have wowed us all during her Iron Man promos by wearing teeny, tiny dresses and giant heels, but the fashion-forward blond is getting ready to promote something else, this time wearing a t-shirt.

Everybody is tipping their hat to Karl these days

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Celebrities with Style

For people who want show their appreciation for Karl Lagerfeld's contributions to the world of fashion, but can't afford any of his designs, you can at least get his Cartman-esque cartoon image plastered on a t-shirt. After breaking into the video gamer demographic with his cameo in Grand Theft Auto IV, now Karl's being immortalized in graphic tee form by Urban Outfitters. He's really on a roll.

Somehow the fashion guru has managed to end up in an UO exclusive collection called Beautiful Ones alongside David Bowie and the King of Pop himself. We're not sure we get the connection -- stylized androgyny? Maybe it just means that he's reached a place in pop culture where his only peers are rock stars. We cant help but point out that Karl and Michael are both competing over who can claim the award for 'Most Notable Gloved Celebrity.'

Aside from the line he did for H&M, this has got to be the least expensive market that he's ever appealed to.

Karl Lagerfeld, the people want another documentary

Filed under: Style in the News

Not to be outdone by all of the film projects surrounding the late Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel, the Parisian fashion house's current head designer, Karl Lagerfeld, is getting yet another documentary made about him.

Directed by Thierry Demaizière and Alban Teurlai, the 52-minute-long fashion doc will feature "in-depth interviews with Lagerfeld, as well as footage of the designer in action, the film explores his life story, starting with his childhood in Germany."

Sorry, Lagerfeld lovers stateside. The documentary is being screened by France 5 for their country men and women only. We know, bummer. But hopefully this Lagerfeld fashion movie will make its way into a convenient DVD that we can all purchase on Ebay. Cross your fingers.

Making Karl Lagerfeld proud: Lindsay Lohan 6126 leggings with (built-in) kneepads

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

You don't have to be as skinny as Lindsay to wear her leggings, or as crazy. But it helps.

We thought we had to wait until the end of August for the 6126 leggings line, oh-so-originally named for Marilyn Monroe's birthday, to appear at Fred Segal. Hat tip to Perez Hilton for the great news that we can see the first four items and get them early, as in right this minute!

Yes, if you've been dying for a pair of shiny leggings...with built-in, quilted knee pads...named "Mr. President" (Finish the tasteless Friday joke: what's the difference between an egg, meat and a ____ ___? Hint: you can't beat it!) then today is your lucky day.

Get a look at the rest of this traumatic magic in the gallery, or head on over to shop intuition and place your order now, before they're gone. Those leopard ankle gloves are going to fly off the shelves. Absolutely fly.

Karl Lagerfeld to design Chanel homes on Dubai's "fashion island"

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

We know that Dubai is all about opulence and a no-limits attitude regarding gross displays of wealth -- but we really had no idea what that meant until we heard that they're building an island dedicated to fashion (Isla Moda). And that legendary designer/gloved weirdo Karl Lagerfeld will be designing 80 of the island's luxury homes. That qualifies as opulent in our book. Apparently, Isla Moda is part of the larger, even more outrageous, offshore development called "The World."

We're not sure where in The World the fashion island is located -- somewhere near Milan or Paris, we presume. We do know, however, that Isla Moda will be decked out with haute couture boutiques, fashion resorts, a medical facility, and of course luxury residential villas designed by Lagerfeld and decked out with Chanel furnishings. The idea is to manufacture an international fashion hot spot that will play host to fashion shows, product launches, etc. You never know, it may be the site of next year's Children's Fashion Week.

Read what Karl had to say after the break.

Video games and fashion, finally the girls are invited to play

Filed under: Style in the News

In a fashion first, H&M is going to manufacture and sell a dress designed by gamer Beau Fornillos, who made it while playing Sims 2. Literally while playing, as in Fornillos made it as part of the game!

Sims players have been able to "shop" at H&M for over a year. Fornillos uploaded his design from the game to to an online runway, where it was judged the winner. His prize is having it brought to life by H&M.

This LA Times story describes the shift in gaming that is bringing fashion to the xBox and Nintendo DS, not to mention the monster that is Wii. From Karl Largerfeld's cameo in Grand Theft Auto to the Japanese street style game "That's QT" (which we can't wait to try, it's all goth lolitas and harajuku girls!) fashion is a viable subject for video games because at last girls are a viable target market for video games.

Stars and Stripes, summer's new trend

Filed under: Clothing, Vintage and Retro

It can be said that last spring what Karl Lagerfeld did for stars and stripes is exactly what his fellow Frenchman Nicolas Ghesquiere did for florals: he made the patriotic motif very, very popular -- sending fast-fashion mills alike into overtime trying to produce budget-friendly pieces that represented the same red, white, and blue theme which was present in every look Karl sent down Chanel's runway.

Topshop immediately added tops, leggings, dresses, and accessories to its online store covered in star constellations and horizontal lines. Our favorite piece by the UK retailer was this navy jumper at right. It's trendy and probably one of the chicest Wonder Woman costumes we've ever seen.
