Crhee Womenswear A/W DressIt's no surprise to us that Christine Rhee has a degree in architecture (from Princeton, no less.) The designer, who launched her line Crhee just one season ago, applies sharp, utilitarian cuts and colors to feminine and wearable classics.

Michelle Trachtenberg at the L.A. premiere of 'Doubt' - Your turn

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes, Polls and Quizzes

Is it just us, or do think Michelle Trachtenberg has the potential to be one of the most stunning women in Hollywood? She has those big eyes, a naturally full pout, and don't even get us started on the hair. But then, she wears this, and we find the whole thing so boring we hardly even notice her.

Don't get us wrong -- we are all about the Little Black Dress. And Michelle has worn the LBD with aplomb on other occasions, but this time, something is seriously lacking. Like fit. Or style.

Or maybe it's fine. Perhaps we expect too much of her. All we know is, if we looked like that, we'd find something that made us stand out just a little more. What about you?

I want that! 3.1 Philip Lim backless mini dress

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Clothing, Dresses, Celebrities with Style, Daily Obsession, Get the Look

At first glance Ashlee Simpson looked like she was simply wearing another LBD (her closet must have hundreds of them) at the Conde Naste Traveler Hot List Party – yawn! Thank God we took a second look because the the close-ups reveal a stunning, detailed look that must've been spectacular in person.

The Philip Lim 3.1 dress is certainly an LBD but with unexpected details like a ruffled bottom, hidden pockets and triangle back cut-out. Instead of rocking the usual black or metallic shoes, Ashlee opted for a light beige peep toe to warm the outfit. Even her hair had a subtle but cool detail. Bet you didn't notice the little braid behind her bangs did you? And of course, her her big ol' diamond sparkler and long Chanel pearl necklace made us swoon.

By adding small but appropriate details each, Ashlee found the perfect accomplices for this look that could've been another ultra boring black dress but is far from.

Check out more pictures and details here...

From red carpet to your closet: Tina Fey at the 2008 SAG Awards

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrities with Style

Tina Fey rocked the SAG Awards in more ways than one -- she not only looked hot on the red carpet, but she also took home an award. I'll let you decide which is more important. You can probably guess what I think.

A little black dress is generally a pretty safe bet, and not a bad choice for Tina -- she's one hell of a talent, but hasn't quite reached style icon status yet. However, I love that she took some risks with it, which is something many of us can do with the clothes already in our closets. Here's how:

Dress of the Day: Daryl K Black Leather Zipper Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

daryl k black leather zipper dressSome Friday nights all we want to do is get home, tear off our work clothes, slip into our flannel PJs and flip through trashy fashion magazines in front of the fireplace until we fall asleep at 9 PM.

Some Friday nights we want to make a quick change in the car from "business casual" into hot LBD, kick off our flats and throw on a pair of 5" stiletto heels with an ankle strap, and head out to cause some trouble.

At first glance, Daryl K's dress fits the bill for little black dress with it's high collar with a modest cut-out at the neck, but when you look again, it's also hot because it's made of leather and trimmed with zippers up and down two sides of the front, and at the pockets. The dress is on sale at Milk for $287 (originally $410).

Styles that Stick: Little Black Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Vintage and Retro, Dresses

We've been talking about styles that stick here at Styledash, and have covered a range of styles that have endured (sometimes longer than necessary) for whatever reason. However, when I think of classic styles, one thing is so salient that it's hard to believe we haven't mentioned it yet.

The little black dress.

There's a whole history surrounding the little black dress, with differing opinions about when and where it began its status as a style icon. In my mind, however, the little black dress, or LBD, started with Holly Golightly in 'Breakfast at Tiffany's.' The simple sleeveless black shift is the one that started a timeless trend of dresses that eventually enveloped a whole wardrobe of different styles and shapes, but in the end, are all little, and all black.

Clearly, the reason that the little black dress is a classic piece in any woman's wardrobe is two-fold. On the one hand, the LBD is the ultimate in versatility. A woman can get pretty far with a fairly basic LBD. My favorite is a black tank minidress that can take on all sort of accessories to go from work to cocktails to dinner to the club.

On the other hand, you can never have too many LBDs!

Can I get an "Amen!"
