Olsen twins get prestigious fashion honor

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

One of the most prestigious gigs in the fashion industry is hosting the CFDA Fashion Awards (CFDA = Council of Fashion Designers of America). This year's awards will be held on June 4th at the Rockefeller Centre in New York, and will be hosted by none other than Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen.

This seems odd to me. Sure, they're a fashionable pair, and they're celebrities, and they'll help with ratings, but this is a serious honor. The sisters' clothing line, The Row, never seems to go anywhere, and -- other than wearing designer outfits -- the only actual interaction either has had with the industry came in that abominably-written piece Mary Kate did for the NYT.

On the other hand, they'll certainly draw some attention to the event. The buzz has already started amongst fashion bloggers, mainly asking: what will they be wearing?

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen considering a new, "upmarket" fashion line

Filed under: Runway Trends, Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are thinking about creating an upscale, more mature line of clothing.

The twins have already been involved in fashion for a while now, with a line geared towards preteen girls that's available online and at locations including Walmart and Claire's Accessories. But this new line would be geared towards an older, more sophisticated market. This seems like the natural next step as the girls get older, but making the transition from 12-year-old customers (and their moms) at Walmart to the trendy twenty-somethings at Nordstrom's might be a tough jump.

This should be interesting. Sometimes these girls look adorable and sometimes they seem like they should be taking fashion advice, rather than giving it out.
