Are We Witnessing a Mustache Revolution?

Filed under: Vintage and Retro, Men

A mustache clad Robert Downey Jr. at the Japanese premiere of Iron ManWhen you consider the sheer number of mustaches appearing in Hollywood films and even on the red carpet these days, some of us are nervously wondering: is the mustache about to make a comeback? As painful as it is to watch, A-list stars the likes of James Franco and Robert Downey Jr. (pictured) have been showing off their upper lip hair on and off the screen. Could 2009 really be the historic year that marks the return of the long-scorned stache?

Jennifer Lopez - Healed!

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes, Style for a Cause

Well, that's a relief! We were terribly worried about Jennifer Lopez and the dreadful "foot injury" that prevented her from guest judging the Project Runway final in New York on September 12th. We know that only the gravest of injuries -- or wild horses -- could keep her away from a fashion event of that magnitude.

Obviously she had the best medical care money and Skeletar Marc Anthony can buy, because she was able to complete the Nautica Malibu Triathlon, along with fellow competitor and shirtless wonder Matthew McConaughey just two days later. Way to recover, Jenny!

It's great that Jennifer raised $127,000 for the Children's Hospital of L.A., but we might have thought twice before double crossing Heidi Klum. Sure, she seems sweet, but you don't get to be the hatchet person on Project Runway by being a wuss.

We recommend Jennifer stay out of dark dressing rooms, and keep her pepper spray handy. Just in case.

Western wear update: Inventor of the pearl snap shirt dies

Filed under: Clothing, Vintage and Retro

Western wear junkies, we have suffered a great loss. The man, the legend, Jack A. Weil -- founder of Rockmount Ranch Wear and reported inventor of what we now know as the "pearl snap shirt" -- left his home for that big rodeo in the sky this week.

According to his grandson, now president of the company, not only was Jack the first to design work shirts with pearl snaps, but he is also responsible for introducing pockets with sawtooth flaps -- this guy was obviously a genius. Weil's designs have been worn by all kinds of celebrities from Clarke Gable to Matthew McConaughey. The Rockmount pearl snap was even the shirt of choice for Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal on the set of Brokeback Mountain. We figured it was Wrangler.

Apparently, he managed to reach the ripe old age of 107. We wonder if he followed the Ernest Borgnine fountain of youth method?

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves Step out to Launch MUXO line

Michael Buckner is a fashion and celebrity photographer who travels around the world taking pictures on the red carpet. He gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the hottest entertainment industry events.

Robertson Blvd is a notorious hot spot for paparazzi and celebrities. The street is constantly filled with double parked SUVs, along with snappers jumping out and bombarding Paris Hilton on her way to Kitson. Quite frankly, it's dangerous, but I won't go political on you today! I was hired to shoot inside the launch of Muxo Handbags designed by new mom Camila Alves (which, you guessed it, was on Roberston).

Matthew McConaughey arrived with his newborn Levi Alves, breaking through a crowd of paparazzi and running into Kitson Studio.

The leather travel bags, handbags and clutches co-designed by Camila's mother and handmade by the mother-daughter team represent a lifetime of design experience with one-of-a-kind leather finishes and superb construction -- the result of which is this highly anticipated collection where elegance meets tribal exotic in the most beautiful way.

The handbags are a bohemian chic, with leather fringe, mixing blacks and browns that add an elegance to the laid back, distressed materials.

McConaughey sipped margaritas and snacked on catering by Beverly Hills hot spot Crustaceans

Check out the handbag line in my gallery below along with the few guests who showed up.

Summer folk: Celebs who thrive in the sun and surf

For some of us, summertime is a hot, sweaty nightmare of frizzy hair and shiny makeup collapsing like an ice cream cake in the sun. Between bug bites and sun burns our skin is a wreck, and we suffer from both the heat and the humidity. There is a whole post over on Stylelist about products that can help us survive the terrors of the season. And we need the help.

Meanwhile, there there are the charmed few, summer folk who thrive when the temperature climbs above 80 degrees. Just drop them at a pool, or anywhere there is sand, palm trees and surf. Their toes are always tan and bare, their hair tossled, and their faces sunkissed.

They look healthy, not hot. Casual, not sloppy. As if they just finished a particularly soothing yoga workout, and are about to sit on a warm, breezy deck watching the sun set, sipping something icy, tropical and fruity. In the gallery, their celebrity representatives, looking sexy, relaxed, easy going and enviable.

McConaughey is modest

Filed under: Style in the News, Fragrance, Celebrities with Style

Matthew McConaughey won't take his shirt off for a video shoot? What's that about? Apparently, the shirtless version of his commercial for D&G's new fragrance, The One, is intended for European and Asian eyes only. He insisted on doing a fully clothed version for the good ol' USA -- guess we're not cultured enough to understand the shirtless male form? Anyway, it hasn't stopped the European version from making the rounds on YouTube. From the article:

'Matthew didn't want to be bare-chested on billboards in America, although he doesn't seem to have a problem stripping off in his films.'

Is Matthew starting to get sick of being a sex symbol? Or is he trying to tone it down because he's going to be a daddy soon? For years the guy has been shedding his shirt whenever possible, then when it comes time to do a shoot with Dolce & Gabbana, he gets shy all shy? Not buying it -- the photo for the D&G advertisement is probably the first pic featuring a shirted McConaughey in months. We think he was just fishing for some extra beer money.
