Naomi Watts at Vanity Fair Oscar Party

The NME awards are notorious for eccentric fashion choices, but none of them could compare to the outfit "created" by "music artist" La Roux. Wow.

Naomi's extra-long gown at the Vanity Fair Oscar afterparty seemed familiar. So we checked and, sure enough, we had seen it before -- on Daryl Hannah in the 1984 hit movie Splash!!

Michelle Monaghan sports an orange Louis Vuitton dress with a sequined side cut out. And tulle. And net. And mesh. And matching LV shoes with feathers. Will it ever stop?

    Getty Images

Keira Knightley's smug expression is just begging us to judge this outfit that's somehow too small and too big at the same time.

    Getty Images

We just have two questions: Why is Tilda Swinton wearing the human flesh dress made by serial killer Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs? And couldn't she at least have it tailored to fit her?

Neither the color green nor those unfortunate shoulder pads are helping Jennifer Connelly look any healthier on the red carpet -- girl needs to eat!

Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, went pattern crazy while playing with the puppies at the Metropolitan Police Dog Training Centre in Cornwall, UK.

Up-and-coming Australian actress Teresa Palmer is drop-dead gorgeous. The shiny hair, the bright, expressive eyes, the thin-but-not-scary-skinny body ... she seems to have the whole package. Except, maybe, for the whole dressing for the red carpet part.

    Getty Images

The thing is, we love the fit of this dress -- it's super flattering and classy. And Teresa shines in light colors, so the white and beige is beautiful. But seriously, what is the deal with the beige bra cups?

Should we get past the weird boob accessories since we love the rest of the look so much? Or are those a deal breaker?

    Getty Images

Of course Teresa isn't the only celeb who suffers from the occasional red carpet flop. Scarlett Johansson clearly has her off days.

Oversized gold coat, check. High waisted pants that are way more frumpy than fashionable, check. What the heck was Scarlett Johansson thinking when she wore this outfit to the photocall for The Spirit in Madrid? This outfit is old lady-ish, and not in the sometimes hip Mary-Kate Olsen kind of way.

Naomi Watts might have a banging post-baby body. She also might be the epitome of laid back Australian beauty (sorry, Nicole Kidman). But none of that mattered when she donned this Zac Posen gown for Vanity Fair's Oscar party.

She channeled Daryl Hannah's mermaid look from Splash -- and we don't mean that in a nice way. While we normally love Naomi's sense of style, this was one red carpet moment gone wrong.

The fit and color aren't terribly flattering on her. And aside from that, we -- Can't. Stop. Staring. -- at her boobs. The darkened fabric there draws our eyes straight to them. That combined with the fishy pattern of the material means we might as well just slap a red wig on her, call her Ariel and she'll be almost human again!

Naomi Watts gets 'Angelic' for Thierry Mugler

Filed under: Style in the News, Fragrance, Celebrities with Style

Clearly it's not enough for Naomi Watts to be just an Oscar-nominated actress with a beautiful baby and a super-famous best friend. No, the King Kong and Funny Games star has designs on the modeling industry, too -- she has just been signed up as the first celebrity face of Thierry Mugler's Iconic Angel perfume.

Any eagle-eyed dress-watchers at the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Gala Benefit in New York last week will have spotted the suitably angelic appearance of Watts' dress... of course, it was a Mugler design. Crafty.

And the award does not go to...

Of the celebs that will be attending the Oscars this year, there's a few that might want to spend the evening at home, rather than risk perpetrating another serious style foul on the viewing public. The Academy hasn't asked for my opinion (again), but if they did, I'd vote to immediately strike the following invitees from future attendance based on past fashion offenses.

Charlize Theron: what the hell was up with that bow?

Dolly Parton: boobs. (Not that I don't love ya, Dolly.)

Philip Seymour-Hoffman: boobs.

Helena Bonham Carter: her hair at lat year's awards made her look like she lives in a Tim Burton movie.

Jamie Foxx: whoa, is that blue, or did my eyes explode?

Naomi Watts: according to our sister blog, Luxist, "...the dress looked as if she had a bad run in with a lawnmower."

Will any of these style-stunted celebs make a comeback this year? Only time will tell.
