2008 American Music Awards

Music and fashion came together at the 2008 American Music Awards, where Beyonce, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift lit up Nokia Live.

Miley celebrated her much anticipated sweet 16 as her dad, Billy Ray, talked about getting her the BMW she wants. The teenage pop icon celebrated backstage with Taylor, Jordin Sparks, Ashley Tisdale, Julianne Hough, her parents and an impressive three-tiered cake.

Pretty, punky princesses at Luella Bartley show

So what would you wear if you were an 18th century socialite with a penchant for pearls who was pulled through a time warp and landed in the 1980s? My guess would be one of the runway beauties at the Luella Bartley Spring 2009 show in London.

Sophisticated Space Girls at Marios Schwab Show

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Fashion Week

So imagine that you were a space cadet who just snuck out of the academy for a night of fun on mars and needed something sleek, chic, and sexy to wear. Something tells me that Schwab's collection is the first thing you would pick.

London's Fashion Week's version of "The Tents"

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Fashion Week

By now you are already familiar with New Fashion Week's massive tent structure. The legendary tents have a counterpart in London. I snapped a picture this morning as I headed into the shows. Whereas New York's tents are pitched close to super busy Time Square on 42nd street, London's are pitched in South Kensington next to the legendary Victoria & Albert Museum. It's no less busy, but somehow it feels more peaceful.

Diane Von Furstenberg's right man hand reveals the Inspiration for his colorful show

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Fashion Week

Ever heard of Nathan Jenden? You got a gold star and a high five if you have. The British designer is a quiet star in the fashion industry, having worked for John Galliano, Kenzo, and Tommy Hilfiger before his current gig as Creative Director at Diane Von Furstenberg.

Somehow while helping to churn out spectacular clothes at that label, he also does the same at his own label, Nathan Jenden. I had the pleasure of attending his Spring 2009 collection today and meeting him after the show. He was very excited about his collection and the warm reception it received.

See my favorite looks from his collection under the cut.

Jaded ballerinas on an African Safari at the Rochas show during London Fashion Week

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Fashion Week

So let's say you were a jaded ballerina going on an African safari to forget your pain, what would you wear? Why, John Rocha's Spring 2009 collection. The designer has got you totally covered, from chiffon zebra prints layered over bright yellow dresses for your daytime activities to dark, dainty a-line dresses for evening festivities Rocha's collection is your one stop shop.

This Hong Kong native who has lived in the U.K for the past thirty years (first England, then Ireland) is an old-timer in the fashion industry, but I continue to love him for his fresh, youthful take on clothes.

Selma Blair wears Nathan Jenden to celebrate cover of LA Confidential

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Celebrities with Style

Michael Buckner is a fashion and celebrity photographer who travels around the world taking pictures on the red carpet. He gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the hottest entertainment industry events.

It was a hot day on Crescent drive in Beverly Hills. My buddy Charley and I were sweating in the sun in the noon hours.

Amidst all the hype for her new television show, "Kath and Kim," Selma Blair came straight off a plane from London to celebrate her cover for Niche Media's LA Confidential Summer at the Crescent Hotel in Beverly Hills.

Selma is dressed in a design by Nathan Jenden and Christian Louboutin shoes. The dress is simple, but has slits and cuts in all the right places, showing just enough to raise a conservative cocktail dress to the level of sexy.

I noticed the bottom cuts first, which have white lace underneath. Jenden must take a lot of his creativity as the Creative Director for Diane von Furstenberg and drop them into his latest designs.

Don King goes off on diamonds, shoes and the match between Federer and Nadal

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Celebrities with Style

There was a serious "Grapple in the Apple" last week, when reigning tennis champs Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal met at the Mandarin Oriental in New York City's Time Square. Unfortunately, they weren't there just to provide great eye candy - but to promote their up coming match during the U.S Open. As you can imagine, they looked young, handsome and rich - but all eyes were glued to the old, quirky and loud man who was moderating the meeting: Don King.

This year, the bands which performed were just as fierce, including Broken Social Scene, Ra Ra Riot and Beach House.

America's Next Top Model winner, Jaslene Gonzalez shares words of wisdom for this season's contestants

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Celebrities with Style

Whether it's fights with celebrities, snarky judges, or a transgendered model, America's Next Top Model always knows how to attract controversy -- and ratings! But that's exactly what makes Jaslene Gonzalez, who won the show in 2007, such an anomaly: she brings zero drama!

Throughout the show she was cool, calm and actually friendly, proving that nice girls can finish first. I caught up with her at a private party in New York City and after marvelling over how good she looked in a simple tee and jeans, I had to ask her what winning strategy the contestants can use this season. "Take it as a learning experience. That's what it is. Go in there like a sponge, be open minded. But at the same time be confident and know what your objective is. My objective was to win."

Celebrate National Underwear Day, because we all wish we could look like this in our undies...

You were actually able to stop staring at the picture above and start reading this post? You have my full respect. I on the other hand, could barely write after getting an eyeful of these male models in all their semi-naked glory. But perhaps that's exactly what FreshPair, the online underwear retailer, was going for when it planned this fashion show in honor of National Underwear Day.

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves Step out to Launch MUXO line

Robertson Blvd is a notorious hot spot for paparazzi and celebrities. The street is constantly filled with double parked SUVs, along with snappers jumping out and bombarding Paris Hilton on her way to Kitson. Quite frankly, it's dangerous, but I won't go political on you today! I was hired to shoot inside the launch of Muxo Handbags designed by new mom Camila Alves (which, you guessed it, was on Roberston).

Matthew McConaughey arrived with his newborn Levi Alves, breaking through a crowd of paparazzi and running into Kitson Studio.

The leather travel bags, handbags and clutches co-designed by Camila's mother and handmade by the mother-daughter team represent a lifetime of design experience with one-of-a-kind leather finishes and superb construction -- the result of which is this highly anticipated collection where elegance meets tribal exotic in the most beautiful way.

The handbags are a bohemian chic, with leather fringe, mixing blacks and browns that add an elegance to the laid back, distressed materials.

McConaughey sipped margaritas and snacked on catering by Beverly Hills hot spot Crustaceans

Scarlett, Penelope, Selma - Oh My! - Vicky Cristina Barcelona Premiere

Michael Buckner is a fashion and celebrity photographer who travels around the world taking pictures on the red carpet. He gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the hottest entertainment industry events

It's been a while since my last post from Miami Fashion Week. I spent last weekend in San Diego for the International Comic Convention, where high fashion was sci-fi T-shirts and cargo shorts. Batman costumes took over the hallways of the convention center, so there wasn't much to post about. I missed Styledash, but I'm back with a bang of an event.

Critically acclaimed director Woody Allen's 43rd film, "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," brings together actor Javier Bardem and girlfriend Penelope Cruz with the ever talented Scarlett Johansson. The Los Angeles premiere brought them together again in top designer dresses. Scarlett in Monique Lhullier. Penelope in Herve L. Leroux. Selma in Balenciaga. These women of Hollywood stormed the red carpet in high fashion.

Scarlet won the fashion contest for last night in the Phillipino fashion designer's red gown, and with two of Hollywood's fashion elite on the carpet, that's a victory that deserves a trophy, right?

See the dresses from the premiere in my gallery below.

On the Red Carpet for "No Bad Days"

I covered the premiere at the Egyptian Theater for a independent movie called No Bad Days starring Michael Madsen (from Kill Bill) and Keith David from Super Hero Movie.

The movie is about evil tomb-raiders who rob precious Mayan artifacts but soon face a difficult opponent -- an unpredictable, rugged, ex-military operative who discovers his true self after ending five years in hiding. Our hero finds himself being chased through jungles, spying in underground waterways, and falling in love with an attractive, yet stubborn American woman searching for her missing mother (an archaeologist who was in the wrong place at the wrong time).

It sounds like a Jean-Claude van Damme flick.

Altogether, Michael Madsen, Heather Storm and Kelly Noonan showed up, along with an onslaught of red carpet seekers and faux fashionistas.

I'm just thrilled because I'm leaving from Miami for a week to cover Miami Fashion Week. So seven days from now I'll be on Miami Beach in swim trunks and boat shoes.

On Location: Premiere of "Journey to the Center of the Earth"

It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon in sunny Los Angeles (on the planet's surface, at least). Then I donned some 3-D goggles and went to the premiere of Journey to the Center of the Earth. The latest Warner Bros. epic held its premiere during the Los Angeles Film Festival's final day.

I had two major challenges to face this time. First, It was early afternoon sun, and every celebrity was looking directly into it. I had the fear that it was going to be another sunglass fashion day. To correct the problem, I decided with the other photogs that we would just shoot them in the corner of the red carpet in some shade with no backdrop or signage. So when the editors look at these pictures they are going to have no idea where I was today.
