Spring's Best Rain Boots

April showers bring May flowers -- and a fresh crop of waterproof boots. Fashionistas will have to wait until June for the faux crocodile pair that is a collaboration between Jimmy Choo and Hunter, and even then there is a waiting list on both sides of the Atlantic. (Perhaps the post-rainy season delay is due to Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon's admission that she was inspired by music festival goers, a la Kate Moss at the Glastonbury Festival, which doesn't take place until the summer.)

If you can't wait until then, don't fret, there are plenty of high style options available now. Our favorite recent find is a pair by Marc by Marc Jacobs, which come in black with a variety of rainbow trim options for only $28.

Five shoes - Rain boots

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Must Haves

An awesome pair of rain boots aren't going to make you hope for rain, sure, but they definitely can make your rainy days a little more fun. Maybe it's because rain boots remind us of childish puddle hopping, or the fact that most rain boots are essentially colorful plastic and rubber so they're an inexpensive way to play with color and pattern. Whatever the reason, let the rain be an excuse to add some pop to your wardrobe!

Shoes of the day - Wales by London Fog

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Must Haves

It's raining outside as we write this, which gives our search for pretty waterproof boots a real sense of urgency. When we found this mod-inspired pair by London Fog, we knew we had a winner. We love the grey patent leather, the mini-wedge heel (so easy to walk in!) and the generous length that will keep our pant legs dry. The cute button detail doesn't hurt either.

Shoes of the day - Sugar Handle This Boot

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Must Haves

So yes, these boots are definite attention getters - what with the candy apple red vinyl and grocery bag handles - but they also might be the perfect rain boot. As cute as rain boots can be, most of us have very little need for them once we get to wherever it is we're going - once you're past 20 jumping in puddles for the fun of it just doesn't seem to happen very often.

Shoes of the day - Chance by Kamik

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Must Haves

Lift your spirits when it's rainy out with these cheery boots by Kamik - they promise better traction and a comfort footbed, but what we love is the groovy print. If the rain's going to screw up our outfit, we like to trade our heels with something cheeky and fun!

Shoes of the day - Aquatalia by Marvin K. Volt

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Must Haves

Rainy days need not be frumpy days with this high-fashion boot from Marvin K. Volt in shiny grey faux-croc leather. We'd personally be a little, oh, reluctant to step into a puddle in boots that cost this much, but they promise to be 100% weatherproof - and they say you get what you pay for, right?

Rain, rain, come and stay - Fun, affordable footwear for rainy days

In some parts of the country, it is hurricane season. And while not everyone is experiencing severe weather, many of us are still getting soaked. Rainy days tend to make us want to curl up on the couch with a blanket and the latest issue of Vogue, but, unfortunately, we sometimes are obligated to leave the house.

The right product (and a good umbrella) can keep our hair from frightening small children, and truth be told, we love a fashionable rain coat. However, we tend to get frustrated with the shoe situation. Galoshes just aren't sexy, but we're not willing to ruin our shoes. What's a stylish but sopping wet gal to do?

Stay dry during the next rainy day

Here in Athens, today is the first cold (a chilly 65°) and rainy day of the fall season. And while I was downtown earlier, I really started to take notice of the way people arm themselves from the dreary characteristics of such a day: lots of umbrellas (of every shape and pattern), raincoats, and specialized footwear that ultimately all looked the same.

It's time for you to get prepared for these days that are sure to come, and in doing so, standing out just a bit. First things first -- girls, got wet feet? Try these Burberry rain boots, the classic Burberry pattern is much better than the pink and white polka dot pair I saw this morning. Guys, I strongly suggest that you don't wear rain boots, unless your job calls for it (i.e. you work in the mud) -- bad stylefoul.

And while there's not much for "stylish" rain jackets that aren't too gawky, Patagonia has tons of toned-down options for you guys and you gals. They're a bit pricey, but for a reason. Incredible color selection as well. For girls, the Rubicon. For guys, the Chute to Thrill.
