Going Gaga at The Gala After-Parties

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Celebrities with Style

After the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute rolled up its red carpet Monday night, it was time for the fashion flock to compare notes at the various gala after-parties.

"The best party was [Vanity Fair editor] Graydon Carter's where Madonna made out all night -- when not doing a hoochie mama dance -- with Jesus Luz," says one snitch. "It was very weird and she looked like a mother with her child -- he's tiny!"

Naomi Campbell, who pulled out of the gala in solidarity with her designer friend Azzedine Alaia (who was having a spat with the organizers), made her presence felt at the after-parties, where the talk was who-wore-what.

Met Costume Institute Gala - Designers, Stars, and Scandal

Every year, the Met Costume Institute Gala is held amid a frenzy of fashion-focused buzz. After all, little can compare to an event that's centered around style and flocked to by the fashion elite on an annual basis!

This year, there's more intrigue than ever. Word is out on who designers are bringing, what people are wearing and where they'll be sitting, so as to be expected, fashion tongues are wagging. First of all, Marc Jacobs will be escorting two dates (not including his adorable hubby-to-be). Rumor has it that the designer will be joined by Madonna and Courtney Love, two women who, you might recall, had a bit of a run-in during an interview at the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards. We can only dream of the drama that could ensue at the Louis Vuitton table. Oh, and Anne Hathaway will be at the table, too. At least her experience with all those girl fights in "Bride Wards" might come in handy.

Then, Jennifer Aniston backed out of attending as Vogue's guest. (Can you imagine the steam under La Wintour's bob?) Apparently, when Jen agreed, she was unaware that the commitment would be so involved.

'Valentino: The Last Emperor' Premiere Brings Out the Stars

The much-anticipated film, "Valentino: The Last Emperor," premiered in New York last night, and the carpet couldn't have been much more star-studded. Gwyneth Paltrow and her stylish mama, Blythe Danner were there, as well as Gwynnie's pal Madonna. Joining them were Anne Hathaway, Martha Stewart, Claire Danes (with her cutie-pie man candy, Hugh Dancy) and lots more. But don't take our word for it -- check out the gallery to see who came out to celebrate Valentino!

Valentino is surrounded by his beautiful guests. Madonna gets cozy with Claire Danes, while Gwyneth Paltrow and Anne Hathaway link in with the man himself.

Anne Hathaway, as always, looks classic and beautiful in white. We can't wait to see how her style continues to evolve!

Helena Christensen is striking in this black asymmetrical dress. Of course, she'd be striking in an asymmetrical paper bag, for that matter.

Agyness Deyn sports a longer, more feminine 'do and some seriously chic bling -- we're loving this look on her, and hope she continues to leave the flannel at home.

Whenever Martha Stewart graces a premiere with her presence, it's definitely a good thing.

Kristen Stewart Sexes Up Adventureland Red Carpet

kristen stewart

Kristen Stewart isn't particularly known for being a fashionista. In fact, she seems to be mostly a jeans, sneakers and t-shirt kind of a girl unless she's out hitting the red carpet for a movie promotion. So we have to give credit where credit is due -- K-Stew rocked it at the premiere of "Adventureland" last night.

Reese Witherspoon's 'Monsters' Style - From Red Carpet to Your Closet

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Get the Look

reese witherspoon at monsters premiere
Reese Witherspoon almost always looks completely lovely. She's mastered the art of looking fashionable and on trend without giving up any of her signature ladylike style. Her look at the Berlin premiere of "Monsters vs. Aliens" is a perfect example -- she looks young and fresh, but really, the look itself is pretty much ageless, which is why it just might be the right look for you!

Jennifer Aniston at the Oscars - From Red Carpet to Your Closet

Jennifer Aniston
We're painfully aware that most of us won't ever have the opportunity to wear a shimmery stunner like the gown Jennifer Aniston wore to this year's Academy Awards. And it's such a shame -- can you imagine how great we'd look? (Trust us -- it would be amazing.) Still, we also know that there are plenty of elements of the look that we could totally work into our own wardrobe.

Odd at the Oscars

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes, Red Carpet Trends

The Oscars never fails to entertain and delight us, and there are always a few things that stick out to us on the red carpet as a little odd. This year, we did double takes when we saw beautiful Natalie Portman's breasts staring at us and the lovely Melissa George in her underwear. Did Matthew Broderick get guylights? And what do Mickey Rourke and Ellen Degeneres have in common? Have a look through our gallery to see.

Odd at the Oscars

    Matthew Broderick
Matthew, honey, we know you expected all eyes to be on SJP's voluptuous curves, but dude -- ditch the "guylights" and give them to Hannah Montana (whose dress was great, but whose hair was surprisingly lackluster).

    Phillip Seymour Hoffman
We know it wasn't cold there (shoot, Jennifer Aniston wasn't even niptacular), so why was he wearing a hat? We're assuming he went in for guylights with Matthew Broderick and was less thrilled with the results.

    Freida Pinto
We know you're new to the red carpet, but here's the thing. Nancy Kerrigan called, and she wants her skating costume back. Sorry.

    Natalie Portman
Well, she might not follow you around the room (or maybe she does, what do we know?), but the magic eyes on her breasts do. Yowza.

    Amy Adams
Statement necklaces are huge, but this one is huge enough to pull double duty as a bib. And just in case it missed anything, the dress came with a handy dandy tucked in napkin. You know, because actresses always eat at these things, right?

    Heidi Klum
She missed her workout that morning, but got one in by wearing 60 pounds of bracelets on her arm. Hey, when you're a wife, mother, supermodel, TV host, and entrepreneur, you have to multitask!

    Melissa George
She loved her underwear so much, she decided not to wear the dress. We've all thought about doing this, and now we're glad we didn't.

    Mickey Rourke
We're animal lovers here, for sure, but Mickey pulls a total Ellen with his puppy love pendant. Oh, who are we kidding? We just about teared up with him. Or for him. Not sure which.

    Beyonce
Beyonce Knowles gives Scarlett O'Hara a run for her money in this curtain-esque print, complete with valance ruffle. But even running wouldn't make Scarlett this bootylicious!

Oscars Beauty Trends - Purple eyes, messy hair & more!

Filed under: Cosmetics, Red Carpet Trends, Beauty Tips, Hair Cut and Style

The Oscars are the culmination of the awards show season, which has kept our favorite celebrities in the public eye since early January (yay!).

We've been avidly watching for beauty trends, and have seen a few key ones emerge. Two of them - smoldering eyes and natural makeup, are tried and true red carpet favorites. But there a few key makeup musts that have emerged as must-wear trends for spring. Purple eye shadow, which makes all eye colors pop, is huge, as are bright pink lips and messy hair - either bouffant style or down.

Click through the gallery for shots from last night's Oscars red carpet first, followed by the trends from the rest of the awards shows.

Best and Worst Models Turned Actresses

Although some models are content to walk to catwalk, many more want to take their looks to the big or the small screen. In honor of the upcoming Oscars, we've decided to list ten of the best (and worst) transitions from model to actress. A few of these faces might be showing up on the Red Carpet this Sunday.

Chime in with your favorite picks (good or bad) for models turned actresses.

Best and Worst Models Turned Actresses

    Charlize Theron
This South African beauty started modeling at age 16 -- and why not, at 5'10" Charlize is nothing short of stunning. After breaking into acting in the late '90s, Charlize took home the Oscar for Best Actress in 2004 for her gripping, frightening performance in Monster, making it very clear is she just more than just a pretty face.

    Angie Everhart
This fiery redhead might have made waves as a model, but her work as an actress has been stone cold. With roles in such blockbusters (ahem) like Another 9 1/2 Weeks and Excecutive Target, no wonder this beauty moved to reality TV and infomercials.

    Rebecca Romijn
The statuesque Rebecca Romijn was a mainstay in Sports Illustrated and Victoria's Secret before transitioning into acting. Although she got some work on sitcoms like "Friends" and "Just Shoot Me," Rebecca's big movie breakthrough came by way of 2000's X-Men where she played the shape-shifting Mystique. Rebecca most recently appeared on the TV show "Ugly Betty."

    Cindy Crawford
As one of the most recognizable faces of the early '90s, it was inevitable that Cindy Crawford would try her hand at acting. Unfortunately, 1995's Fair Game made it very clear that Pepsi commercials and feature length films are very, very different. Cindy has laid off the acting (save a small guest role here or there) and her career rebounded from her silver screen disaster. Too bad Fair Game co-star William Baldwin can't say the same thing.

    Gisele Bündchen
What do you get when you take Queen Latifah, Jimmy Fallon and Gisele and drop them in an American remake of a French action/comedy? You get 2004's Taxi and a cinematic embarrassment. It looks like dating Leonardo DiCaprio was as close as Gisele is going to get to quality acting.

    Brooke Shields
The youngest fashion model ever to appear on the cover of Vogue, Brooke Shields has been in the public eye since she was a child. Aside from controversial roles in films like Pretty Baby and The Blue Lagoon, Brooke's acting portfolio in the '80s to mid '90s was a little, well, weak (Brenda Starr anyone?). All that changed after a 1996 appearance on "Friends" led to her own sitcom, "Suddenly Susan". Brooke has had steady work in television ever since.

    Cameron Diaz
Cameron Diaz started working as a model at age 16, appearing on the covers of magazines and in ads for Calvin Klein and Levi's. After scoring a role in 1994's The Mask her acting career took off. In 2008, Forbes listed Diaz as the highest paid actress in the world.

    Tyra Banks
Is seems like Tyra Banks is really set on convincing us that she's the next Oprah. Whatever you think of her hosting abilities (or lack thereof), we can all agree that this former Victoria's Secret model should not step into character. To wit: 2000's Life-Size" (starring a then tweenage Lindsay Lohan) is hardly The Color Purple.

    Molly Sims and Milla Jovovich
Both Molly Sims and Milla Jovovich have successfully transitioned from modeling to acting. For Molly Sims, the transition from Sport Illustrated Swimsuit issue model to TV star came by way of NBC's Las Vegas" which ran from 2003 - 2008.

Milla Jovovich is perhaps the best example of a working supermodel who also finds time to act in movies that aren't completely horrible. After 1997's The Fifth Element, Milla has continued to star in films, while also finding time to model, dabble in music and fashion design, and be a mother!

    Kathy Ireland
A mainstay of theSports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue for more than a decade, Kathy Ireland has also tried her hand at acting, most memorably in 1988's B-movie schlockfest, Alien from L.A.. If you haven't seen the "Mystery Science Theater 3000" episode that eviscerates this film, trust us -- it's bad. Think about the worst movie you could ever imagine. It's worse.

Kathy doesn't need to worry -- she has an empire of fitness videos, home furnishings, clothing to keep her busy. We bet life is more fun as a mogul rather than an actress anyway!

Last August Boydie shared her craving for the Bochic cuff worn by Amber Heard at the Pineapple Express premiere. We have to say, the cuff is just the tip of the Bochic iceberg when it comes to jewelry we want to snatch borrow from the red carpet look of stars like Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Minnie Driver and Lisa Rinna.

Tori Spelling at the Heart Truth Fashion Show - From Runway to Your Closet

We firmly believe that, if you're going to have a red dress in your closet, it sure as sugar had better be fun. No thank you, Simple and Demure -- whether it's a scarlet shift or crimson cap-sleeve gown, it should have some sort of edge to it. Knowing this, it's no wonder we love watching the Heart Truth Fashion Show each year. And it's also not surprising that we adored the funky frock Betsey Johnson designed and Tori Spelling wore for this year's show.

Adele at the Grammys - From Red Carpet to Your Closet

adele at the grammys
Adele might be relatively young (she's only 20, but you'd never guess it when listening to her belting out heartfelt lyrics), and we know she's pretty new to the red carpet. However, the English Grammy winner managed to look chic and sophisticated while still keeping a youthful edge.

Dakota Fanning at "Push" Premiere - From Red Carpet to Your Closet

dakota fanning
Back in the day, Dakota Fanning was the twee little girl who probably knew more SAT words than you, but it was okay because she was such a talented actress. Then, she went through a slightly less cute phase, and we sort of lost interest. What can we say? We're fickle. However, Little Miss Fanning is back in the spotlight, and the girl absolutely knows how to be a girl -- she's been rocking the red carpet in a totally appropriate manner, and that's something that doesn't seem to happen often with young Hollywood actresses.

As much as we love really ornate gowns and totally unique jewelry, we have to admit that, sometimes, simpler is better. And nobody exhibited that fact better at Sunday's SAG awards than the lovely Taraji P. Henson. In her halter style Herve Leroux gown, she showed us how truly easy looking fabulous should be.
