With the holidays approaching, we're trying to refrain from spending much money on ourselves. Lucky for us, Intermix, Cusp, Chick Downtown, Shopbop and Active Endeavors are all having excellent sales online this week. Of course, we just had to share the news with Stylelist readers.

Why aren't you wearing this? Marc by Marc Jacobs Painted Intarsia Gloves

Winter's coming, and you need to make sure you have the right tools to cope with the drop in temperature. We tend to lean toward items that, for one thing, can be worn with multiple things, and for another, can be adjusted according to temperature. These Marc by Marc Jacobs Painted Intarsia Gloves, $88 at Shopbop, do just that.

Must have bling of the day: Alex and Ani's thunderbird feather cuff

We love feathers. They're soft, natural, and add a little hippie eccentricity to accessories. Case in point: this Alex and Ani thunderbird feather cuff.

Why aren't you wearing this? A Peace Treaty Rishon Scarf

We are all about the types of accessories that can turn a plain tee and jeans into a true ensemble. Bright colors, patterns, and textures can be a fabulous layer atop simple white cotton, or add some interest beneath a blazer or sweater.

Right now, woven scarves are a great accessory for women of all ages, and we absolutely love this A Peace Treaty Rishon Scarf, available at Shopbop for $110. It's just perfect, just the way it's shown.

Alkemie Jewelry's large stingray cuff

We just spotted this cuff from Alkemie Jewelry.

Like something dug up from the wreckage of a pirate ship, the rough-hewn gold cuff plays with textures: a "tear" in the metal, a finish that equally resembles the frothing bubbles of an ocean wave and the scales of a sea creature.

The piece is made even more covetable by the fact that all Alkemie designs are made from reclaimed metals. (Fact: gold mining generates more toxic waste than any other industry in the United States.)

Who knew recycling could be so glamorous?

Do you want to be in Teen Vogue?

Filed under: Style in the News

When we were in the sixth grade, we already had a pretty firm grip on reality and pretty much knew that talk shows like Jerry Springer and Rikki Lake were for our amusement more so than they were for us to, well, learn anything from.

So we know that some of our fabulous readers, while extremely wise and intelligent, are probably that of a younger breed, which is why we want to inform you guys of this really cool contest Teen Vogue is currently running:

Anyone who thinks their outfits are just aching for a couple of minutes of fame can upload snapshots of themselves to Teen Vogue for a chance to be featured in the style mag's coveted pages. In addition, runner-ups could receive a Jill Stuart handbag or a $500 gift certificate to Shopbop.

Good luck!

Tip of the day: Join the MiH denim revival

Filed under: Clothing, Jeans, Celebrities with Style, Daily Obsession, Style Tip of the Day

Remember those smokin' pictures of Farrah Fawcett, perfectly coiffed in a belly baring shirt and tight jeans? She was most likely wearing MiH Denim as were many other bombshells of yore like Jane Birkin and Lauren Bacall.

Now the company, which was started in 1969 as the Jean Machine and later renamed Made in Heaven, has re-invented 70's style flares to accommodate today's skinny, slim, wide leg, and ankle cut jean trends to name a few. Today, new "it" girls like the ever cool Keira Knightley and the always classy Gwyneth Paltrow are eating up these heavenly duds.

And bonus! The company also makes comfortable, roomy tops that are floaty and sophisticated.

You can buy these cool as hell jeans at places like ShopBop and the MiH website.

Why aren't you wearing this? Eugenia Kim Chain Link Belt

Every closet needs a classic leather belt, that's for sure. And while a bright, funky, fun belt is a great addition to a lot of outfits, sometimes you need something in between boring and show-stopping. You need something that doesn't distract from your already fabulous outfit, but still shows off your rockin' personality.

That's why we have a bit of a belt crush on this Eugenia Kim Chain Link Belt, available for $187 at shopbop.com. Sure, it's a little pricey, but imagine how much use you'll get out of it. It's got enough interest to liven up a jeans and tee combo, but doesn't have so much going on that it can't be worn with a more vibrant outfit.

Fug Alert: Satin high heel sneakers

ash high heel sneakersWhen I saw these shoes I felt a wave of death come over me. Really, my life (of bad shoes) flashed before my eyes. I saw the beige chunky high heeled sneakers I wore in the sixth grade, good lord those were ugly. Then I had a hideous replay of my history with those Manolo Blahnik knock-off high-top Timberland boots. Yes, I bought them and managed to trick people into thinking they were real for approximately two weeks before retiring them. Believe it or not I really have those shoes hidden away in the depths of my closet. I am really not sure why either, I will never ever wear them again.

Once I snapped out of my death trance, I got to thinking about these shoes by Ash. Why on earth do they exist? There is nothing right about the shoes, they are all wrong. Let's break it down:

Satin ... wrong.

High heel, on a sneaker no less ... wrong.

Freaky pin tuck treatment ... wrong.

If this were school this shoe would get an 'F' but if for some insane reason you like this shoe it can be yours for $130 at ShopBop.

Dress of the Day: Paul and Joe Awa Bow Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

paul and joe bow dressYou're a lady on the outside, but on the inside you're (almost) a tramp.

Maybe tramp is a little extreme, but with Paul & Joe's Awa Bow Dress, you can be a little of both. The 100% cotton dress is a sweet rose color with a feminine bow detail at the back that expands into "bows" as sleeves. The racy comes in on the backside of the dress with an open, V-scoop.

The dress is available from Shopbop for $341.

ShopBop and Glamour give back with t-shirts

Filed under: Clothing, Style for a Cause

shopbop and glamour magazine malaria no more tee shirtsDon't you love it when you can "look good" and "do good" at the same time? It's not very often that you can find clothing that are both good for charity and aesthetically pleasing. Don't get me wrong, clothing that help people in need are always a good thing, but sometimes we would rather wear those articles to sleep rather than out in public.

Don't lie to yourself. You know it's true.

ShopBop and Glamour Magazine have teamed up to create five limited editions t-shirts that help support the charity Malaria No More. Five hot designers were tasked with designing these "do good" tees: Peter Som, Erin Fetherson, Marchesa, Jovovich-Hawk, and Thakoon.

Each white tee shirt has a unique pen and ink like drawing and will be sold on ShopBop.com for $68. For each Fashion Gives Back tee sold, six bed nets will be donated to women and children in Tanzania through Malaria No More, an organization dedicated to fighting a disease that kills one million children in Africa each year.

Fashion for a good cause is a good thing, so get your shirts while they are still available.

Made in Heaven jeans make Mom jeans look good

Wow. These are probably the ugliest jeans I have ever seen in my life. It's shocking really. What are they? I may not be able to tell you what they are, but I can tell you what they aren't. They aren't fashionable and they aren't flattering.

They are described as "Rome corseted wide leg jeans" by the brand. Made in Heaven. ShopBop, which usually comes up with clever little quips about what they sell came up with this "Denim takes a sleek, dramatic turn."

Yep, it's dramatic alright.

Made in Heaven (the denim brand) didn't even nail their own pathetic little description because these aren't wide leg jeans! Slight flare, oh sure, but wide leg ... are you crazy? They also picked up on the high waist trend and gave that a shot. Of course they failed. Not being able to quit while they aren't ahead, they added a little corseting to the back, because what are jeans without corseting? The back pockets just add insult to injury, as they are causing square butt syndrome.

Icky. If I were given a choice to either wear these or a pair of mom jeans, I might just have to pick the mom jeans because these Made in Heaven jeans are nothing close to heaven for me.

Dress of the Day: T Bags Solid Chain One Strap Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

t bags solid chain one strap dressI'm a mad sale shopper these days, and while the deep discounts are yet to come on summer clothes, this dress by T Bags is still a good deal at $99, down 50% from $198 at Shopbop.com.

The 100% rayon, asymmetrical dress with braided banding at top hem that transforms into a single strap over one shoulder accessorizes itself with a chain belt that ties in a bow. Falling a modest 38" to just above the knee, it needs nothing more than a pair of dramatically long earrings to sweep your bare shoulders and some hot high heels (not a fan of what's shown on the model, though). The dress comes in two other darker colors, but why would you go with boring black when the royal blue makes you look like a goddess?

Dress of the Day: Catherine Malandrino Circle Emobroidery Blouson Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

catherine malandrino circle embroidery blouson dressSince it's Friday, I promise that Catherine Malandrino's Circle Embroidery Blouson Dress will be the last fuschia Dress of the Day I post this week.

But there's always next week!

And if the hot pink dresses are as H-O-T as this one, then who's complaining? The washed-silk dress has sexy little spaghetti straps to show off that late summer tan and your fragile little collar bones, a blouson body (because really, did you keep up that bikini-body all summer?) and on-seam pockets at the hip. Circle embroidery at the top and bottom hems are what give the dress its name.

The model in the picture is wearing dove gray pumps, but like I said before, black patent leather strappy sandals are the way I'd go.

Available from Shopbop for $475.
