Rock the Vote with Stilla

We've never needed an excuse to buy any new beauty products. But just in case you're a little more budget conscious than us, Stila's new lipstick not only will have your lips looking fresh, but will also play a role in the 2008 Presidential election.

Stila's new red lip color, Rock the Vote, goes on sale starting today and will retail for $17. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds from the first 500 lipsticks purchased will go to the efforts to "mobilize young people to get involved in the political process."

But that patriotism doesn't stop there folks. In addition to the lipstick, Stila will have a "Rock the Vote" icon on its site that will allow people to become registered voters so they can make that all-important decision on November 4th.

Stila review: long wear lip color

The nice folks at Stila sent us some samples so we could try their products first hand. We spread the bounty across two bloggers Kristen Seymour and Cat Lincoln, who will share their reactions with you this week.

Our second Stila product for review was Long Wear Lip Color. We've admitted before that we're lazy about reapplying lip color, so we were excited to try one that purported to be a soft-on-the lips hybrid gloss, with serious staying power.

We rotated the three colors over the course of a week:
  • Serenade -- golden red (weekend brunch color)
  • Coquette -- pink mauve (tasteful day wear)
  • Rendezvous -- brown reddish (dramatic night out)

Stila review: Perfecting concealer

Stila's Perfecting Concealer is a semi-matte concealer designed to hide "under eye circles, scars, redness, and other imperfections."

We were really excited to try this out because, even after getting a full night's sleep, we tend to have under eye circles, but now that we're no longer 18, some concealers and foundations end up making our smile lines (because we do not have wrinkles -- our face is simply used to smiling and being happy) more obvious.

Stila review: kajal eyeliner

We are heavy eyeliner users, both figuratively and literally, so we've experienced the full gamut of textures: waxy, smudgy, crumbling and smooth. Based on this broad experience, we feel confident in our definitive pronouncement that Stila Kajal Eyeliner is the silkiest pencil we've ever used.

Now before you think we're a pushover for free stuff, let us say that super silky can be a good and bad thing.

Stila review: Lip glaze

First of all, we are huge fans of lip gloss -- it's seriously one of the easiest ways to make yourself look just a little more put together at the last minute. Stila's lip glaze is a best seller, and they call it "an essential addition to any beauty bag."

Monopoly: Sephora Edition

Filed under: Style in the News, Cosmetics

As reported by Fashion Week Daily, beauty superstore Sephora is teaming up with the makers of a classic board game to create a Sephora edition of Monopoly.

Players will collect and spend Beauty Bucks, can end up in jail for heinous offenses like "bad hair days", incur fines for streaky self-tanner, and buy Sephora bags and Sephora storefronts for their purchased property in lieu of "houses" and "hotels".

I'm not yet sure which brand name has snagged the advertising rights to the properties that will replace "Park Place and Broadway", but some of the beauty advertising gurus such as Nars, Stila, and Murad will have their names on Cheek Street, Gloss Gardens, and Cleanser Crossing, respectively.

The new Sephora edition of Monopoly retails for $45.
