Tim Gunn emceeing at Fashion Forward

We caught up with Tim Gunn last night at Fashion Forward, a fabulous fashion show featuring Betsey Johnson, Michael Bastian, Tim Hamilton, Charles Nolan, Ports 1961 by Tia Cibani, and John Varvatos, all to benefit Gay Men's Health Crisis. Tim was very busy hosting, but he made time to talk to us. Could we love him any more?

Of course everyone loves Tim Gunn. When we told a friend we were interviewing the famous fashion icon, she said "Ooooh! Please tell him I want him to be my dad!" (Sorry Jenn, unfortunately there wasn't time.)

Tim Gunn's Guide to Style: Season 2 premieres tonight!

Filed under: Men, Videos, Celebrities with Style, Get the Look

Tonight on Bravo, don't miss the Season 2 premiere of Tim Gunn's Guide to Style! Click above to watch this poor woman get her breasts messed with in the preview.

As we told you, Tim has a new accomplice this season: Ms. Gretta Monahan of Grettacole Spas and Salons and Gretta Luxe Boutiques. Says Tim: "I am absolutely crazy about Gretta and together she and I want every woman to achieve her perfect signature look."

From poorly-dressed divas freaking out to Tim's "essential shopping lists," this season promises to be full of laughs and great, practical style advice.

Erica Hubbard at the premiere of The Women - Stylefoul!

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

Erica Hubbard is hanging out on the red carpet at the premiere of The Women, blithely unaware that the Boob Police are about to descend on her.

Officer Andy Dick is hiding behind a bush, waiting for the right moment to jump out and use those two boob handles to yank down her dress.

Officer Tim Gunn is hiding behind a different bush, waiting for the right moment to jump out and yank the boob handles up to cover that rhinestone-encrusted strapless bra.

It could be worse. Last week Keira Knightly was confetti'd by the Itty Bitty Titty Committee. Again.

Tim Gunn: Jennifer Aniston "dresses desperate"

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

We're pretty solidly Team Aniston, but are even more solidly Team Gunn. So we must agree with Tim's assessment of Jen's post-Idiot (Mayer The Player gag) wardrobe. Oh, we still think she looks miles better without that ass, but when a style expert like Tim speaks out, we defer. Oh yes, we defer.

In Tim's learned opinion, lately Jen's wardrobe is unintentionally giving out the message that she is a "desperate character." While hanging with Project Runway Season 3 finalist Laura Bennett at the launch party for Tide and Downy Total Care, Tim told OK! Magazine that "She's a gorgeous woman," who "understands her fashion" so there is hope for her to rebound.

Tim is less kind about Miley Cyrus, who he said looks tarty and dresses too old for her 15 years. And he said, quite rightly, that Katie Holmes is looking like dowdy European royalty.

Sigh. We need this kindly but blunt voice of reason. Season two of Tim Gunn's Guide to Style cannot get here soon enough for us!

Tim Gunn returns with new BFF Gretta Monahan

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

As huge Tim Gunn fans, we've been waiting for the second season of Tim Gunn's Guide To Style, seemingly forever. Bravo finally announced that we'll see new episodes starting on October 2nd, at 11 pm, which would be a bizarre time if anyone ever watched anything live anymore. Thank you Tivo!

There was buzz that they were going to rework the show, and now we know that at least one of the changes is a new fashion accomplice. The beautiful but disproving Veronica Webb will be replaced by stylist Gretta Monahan, who we can already tell is way more fun. For a preview of her makeover style, check out this video of her helping a girl actually look like a girl.

Gretta's from Boston, so we automatically like her. She's on Rachel Ray all the time, and has that same gravelly voice and perkiness, which is good in small doses. And she sorta reminds us of makeover queen Stacy London, but without the evil ability to make us cry.

We can't wait to watch Gretta go through some underwear drawers!

Natalie Portman to appear on Project Runway tonight!

Filed under: Runway Trends, Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

We think everyone can unanimously agree that last week's premiere episode of the fifth season of Project Runway was a tad bit on the boring side. We're not sure if it was because of the fact that the challenge had been done before (and better) or because the contestants didn't seem that interesting, but it took everything within us not to turn the channel after the first ten minutes.

However, we've never been known to quit something we've only recently just started. So we're hoping tonight's episode of Project Runway will be exponentially greater than last week's. And we have a strange feeling (wink) it just might.

Eco-friendly cheerleader, Natalie Portman, will be guest judging tonight's episode. Cool, right? We imagine the contestants will have to incorporate Natalie's vegan shoes into their looks. Anyways, as we all wait in suspense, check out this clip of a preview of tonight's episode. Tim Gunn's "Holla at ya boy" is priceless.

Project Runway season 6: now casting!

Are your dreams filled with Heidi Klum and Nina Garcia? Does Michael Kors speak to a special spot in your heart? Are you ready to risk hearing the words "auf wiedersehen" if it means you might see your designs at New York Fashion Week? Is Tim Gunn your daddy?

Let's get to the point: Do you want to be on Season Six of Project Runway?

If you do, then get cracking because they are casting right this minute! Applications are due in just a couple of days, on July 9th. Not much time, but the whole point of the show is working under crazy deadlines, right?

There are three required parts to the application:

Tim Gunn beats Stacy London

Filed under: Style in the News

If your wardrobe is a reflection of your true self, it stands to reason that a messy, outdated closet equals inner turmoil.

This will come as no surprise to anyone who ever watched Tim Gunn's Guide to Style on Bravo, or TLC's What Not To Wear. The transformation on each episode is always accompanied by tears and high emotions.

Here's the question. Your life is being dissected in front of TV cameras, presumably for the viewing enjoyment of millions. Which "therapist" would you prefer to experience:

Tim Gunn on The Daily Show

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Ah, Tim. If it wasn't for you, Project Runway would be a boring reality show about self-obsessed pseudo-designers who get more attention for being bitchy than for their occasionally half-decent creations. Fortunately, you are awesome, and keep me wanting more.

Yes, Tim Gunn, the man himself, recently appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart to talk about the show, and about the importance of New York Fashion Week (which, if you haven't noticed, we've been covering extensively). However, the best part of the interview isn't what Tim says, but rather that Jon is apparently an enormous fan.

At one point he reveals to the fashion icon: "I think what's remarkable [about Project Runway] is that I don't know anything about fashion ... yet I'm beginning to understand it and appreciate it."

Well done, Tim! I wonder how many other people have been turned on to the fashion industry thanks to Project Runway. Anyone out there a Tim-Gunn convert?

Are you more into fashion thanks to Project Runway?

Tim Gunn looks fabulous at the Baltimore Book Festival

Filed under: Style in the News, Men, Celebrities with Style, Books

Tim GunnTim Gunn of Project Runway fame attended the Baltimore Book Festival on Sunday to promote his new book and Bravo show, Tim Gunn's Guide to Style. I was lucky enough to be in attendance, grabbing a pretty good seat by sneaking in during the previous panel before the rest of the Gunn-crazy crowd. A good portion of the hour-long discussion was spent with Gunn dishing on some sweet Project Runway goodness, from both seasons past and the upcoming fourth cycle. Gunn also took questions from the audience members, several of whom asked about their own personal fashion problems, including troubles with finding petite sizes or the oh-so affectionately called "boot-ay".

Late summer reading is fashionable

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Shoes, Books

Reading is Fashionable
For the small percentage of people who won't be enjoying the last days of summer grilling out on the patio, shopping the Labor Day sales, or soaking in those last bits of sunshine, boy, do I have something for you.
A reading list.

Sure you probably won't find these books on any back-to-school summer reading list, but these books are fashionable and fun reads. Isn't that what summer is all about. Put down your US Weekly and pick up a book.

For the shoe lover, pick up this piece of "shoe porn" called New Shoes. This book will blow your mind. It's the next best thing to designer shoe shopping spree. Another stand out from the list is Model. I read Model back in college and was shocked by how dirty the fashion industry could really be (now I know better). Speaking of college, 9 Heads is fantastic. It is actually a text book that teaches fashion illustration, so if you are into drawing this is a must have. The Devil Wears Prada was a hit on the big screen but to me it was a bigger hit in print. Read this book, it is much different than the movie.

Happy reading and happy Labor Day.

Nina Garcia: A poor fashionista's Tim Gunn

Filed under: Style in the News, Books

Nina Garcia The Little Black Book of StyleEven though Elle is my favorite fashion magazine (minus the Kohl's episode), I still have beef with Nina Garcia. She just rubs me the wrong way, and I think it's because she tries too hard. First she is attempting to channel her inner Anna Wintour, which no one can do (at least not in this lifetime). When that didn't work, she moved on to fellow Project Runway star Tim Gunn.
Tim Gunn is fabulous. He didn't have to try because he is just that cool. What started as a little gig on Project Runway turned him into a modern day fashion god. He has authority without being too pushy, he talks and people listen. We love Tim. Because of his wild success, Tim was able to write a book Tim Gunn: A Guide to Quality, Taste, and Style. I read the book and though it's nothing to write home about, it seems it was good enough for Tim to get his own show on Bravo based on the book.

So what does Nina Garcia do? She writes a book of course. The is book called The Little Black Book of Style, which is due to hit shelves on September 4. The book is a "one-stop guide to cultivating a sense of personal style". Hmmm, sounds a bit familiar to me. The book will have illustrations (what fashionista likes reading?) and will let you know what closet essentials are okay to splurge on, as well as a wardrobe checklist.

She may not have her own television show to accompany the book, but she does have fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg on her side. Diane will host the books launch party on September 5th at New York hot spot Socialista. Sounds like fun -- have a drink for me.

Tim Gunn weighs in on It bags

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Tim GunnWhen it comes to purses and bags, some people get a little too crazy, shelling out thousands of dollars a year to tote around something cute. It's worse when the purse in question is an It bag, because the trend's longevity (or lack thereof) often doesn't justify the costs.

Now here comes Tim Gunn to save our souls. In this article, Gunn shares just how and why one should stay away from It bags. The tips are generally common sense, but, again, people can be blinded by trends and lose their good judgment when on a shopping high. Read over the points and see if that sounds anything like you. If so, you may need to re-consider your spending habits!

Also, the first chapter of Gunn's new book, A Guide to Quality, Taste & Style, is free for preview online. Yes, he covers just how one can "make it work".
