Lighten and get Zen

gosmile zenYep, Anne has recommended that we stay away from whitening toothpastes in order to steer clear of facial breakouts, but a fabulous complexion will fade if you smile and your teeth are stained, yellow, or graying. I guess you're damned if you do whiten, and damned if you don't.

If your preference is for white teeth anyway, then you might want to try GoSMILE's new whitening toothpaste, Zen Toothpaste for Sensitive Teeth. The toothpaste is made from naturally hydrated silica to whiten teeth, potassium nitrate for sensitivity, fluoride for strengthening, and the "zen" part comes from cranberry and lavender essential oils for stress relief and gum health.

Available from the GoSMILE website, $18 for a 3.5 oz. tube.

Problem skin? Blame your toothpaste

At the risk of being bombarded by dissenting opinions and angry toothpaste companies, I thought I would share with you a small nugget of beauty wisdom. My advice is this: don't use whitening toothpaste. It makes you break out.

Scientific it's not; observed it is. And I'm not the only one who has found this to be true. Lots of my friends have asked me over the years for skin-clearing advice, and my first question to them is, "Well, do you use whitening toothpaste?" If they say, "no" I just shrug and suggest a more gentle cleanser. If they say "yes," I suggest that they give it up for a few weeks to see what happens. If they nix the whiteners, invariably the breakouts follow suit.

Lots of people worry that switching to regular toothpaste will make their teeth look dull and old. I suppose that is a possibility, but if you brush well and try to use baking soda toothpastes, you'll have about 70 percent of the same effect without the breakouts. Decide for yourself, but I think it's worth it.

Real Steps to Resolution: Ease to say "Cheese!"

Automatic Toothpaste Dispenser Gross. Please don't tell you that one of my new year's resolutions is to brush my teeth, as if I didn't do that before. No no, dear readers, the resolution is to make my teeth pearly white without having to take out a second mortgage on a house that I don't even own for lasers and lights.

I was pretty good about using my Crest Whitestrips (though there are some mornings I seem to forget it all and sip that muck-making stuff called "coffee"). However, making regular brushing easier is a good thing, too. Sharper Image's Automatic Toothpaste Dispenser might seem a bit frivolous because all you have to do is push, but it sure makes me feel like I'm really working toward that resolution. Besides, I hate dealing with messy toothpaste tubes.

Available from Sharper Image, on sale for $39.95.

Marvis - trendy whitening toothpaste

marvis whiteningWhen it comes to trends in teeth, nothing is sexier and more stylish than a bright white smile. Whether you get that with the $1.29 tube of drugstore Colgate or $2,000 light whitening in the DDS's chair is up to you.

However, there is some trendiness in toothpastes. If you haven't already heard about it, where were you when Anne wrote about it last year?!?! People can't seem to stop marvelling at Marvis, a line of somewhat luxurious (because a single tube can run you ten bucks), and now Marvis is available in a paste specifically formulated to whiten teeth - Marvis Mint Whitening. Over at Details for Men (as far as we can tell, they're the first to have it available here) it's $10.

Flash a smile with Marvis toothpaste

Most people say that the best thing about Italy is the food. The food is good, don't get me wrong, but my favorite thing about Italy is Marvis toothpaste . I know that toothpaste doesn't really sound sexy, but you'd be surprised what a difference an Italian formula and metal tube can make.

Unlike other whitening toothpaste, Marvis doesn't contain the whitening chemical that makes your face break out. (Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the junk is bad for your complexion, kids.) In lieu of fake-o artificial flavoring, Marvis toothpaste has a crisp, fresh, natural mint taste that keeps your mouth feeling marvelous all day long. While $9 for a tube of toothpaste seems a little excessive, don't you think your pearly-whites deserve a special treat now and then?

If nothing else, your skin will thank you.

Think Pink: Smile white

gosmile morning rush mini toothpaste for breast cancer awareness monthGood morning! We hope that even with October coming to a close we would think about and support breast cancer research beyond National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. So while we haven't posted about too many things recently, we return to "Think Pink."

GoSMILE is offering their GoSMILE Morning Rush toothpaste in a mini size, in a pink tube for breast cancer awareness. In addition to doing the regular good stuff that toothpaste does for you like preventing decay and reducing "painful sensitivity of the teeth to cold, heat, acids, sweets or contact," GoSMILE's Morning Rush also naturally whitens teeth and brightens your senses with the addition of essential lemon, lime, orange, and mandarin oils, as well as peppermint.

The mini toothpaste is availabel at Beauty.com for $6 per tube.
