Get Addicted to Speed, the topcoat

Filed under: Style in the News, Cosmetics

What kind of clear nail polish is actually worth $20? The kind created by NASA as a topcoat for fighter plans, of course.

Okay, maybe it's not aircraft paint, but Deborah Lippmann's new fast-drying lacquer topcoat, Addicted to Speed, really was created using nanotechnology...how a celebrity manicurist got her perfect hands on nanotechnology is a question for national security experts. We're just happy it works.

Super quick to dry, with UV protection to keep your color bright, Deborah's site specifically says to wear it over color only. Lucky thing she offers so many cool colors to choose from!

Our ideal summer weekend combo is Shutup and Drive/Addicted to Speed. How about you?

Styles that Stick: Aviator sunglasses

Filed under: Accessories, Vintage and Retro

Invest in a pair of classic aviator shades and you will not have to worry about your protective eyewear going out of style. I remember a few years ago during the most recent surge in aviator popularity, I found a pair of my father's old aviators from the early '80s and I marveled at how the glasses still looked like they came straight from the latest fashion magazines. It's true: For the past three decades or so, aviator shades have happily coasted alongside the more fickle eye candy trends, from Tom Cruise's Risky Business Ray-Ban Wayfarers to Nicole Richie's bug-eyed super-shades.

The glasses were originally made by Ray-Ban for military pilots back in the 1930s. The style has since been a staple to the military and law enforcement wardrobe, but has also found wide popularity in the civilian public's everyday wear, most recently during the 2000s' retro obsession.

Honestly, one can never go wrong with these glasses. Hipster holy land Urban Outfitters carries plenty and, if you're willing to pay more, labels like Dior carry aviators too.

Stay cool with a titanium umbrella

After spending a entire childhood running around outdoors without any sunscreen, my girlfriend developed skin cancer in her early 20s. It was removed, and she's fine, but now that we live in Texas -- where the sun is seemingly inescapable -- she's constantly trying to figure out how to minimize her sun exposure.

I think I'll get her this. It's an umbrella made of titanium coated nylon with a double-tiered design for ventilation and stability -- that blocks 98% of UV. Not only will it protect you from the sun's harmful rays, but you'll be up to 15° cooler when hiding beneath it.

Plus, it seems easy to cart around. The ribs and spreaders are made of lightweight fiberglass (the whole thing only weighs 4 lbs), and the umbrella collapses to just 45" long.

So, if you're planning on spending some time at the beach this summer, or just want to ward off some UV while walking around town, maybe a Titanium Umbrella can do the trick!
