I want that! Rihanna in Peter Pilotto

If you got it, you got it and Rihanna has certainly got it. She is certainly a risk taker and while we don't always love her look, one thing we can say is that she always wears everything with a super confidence that we've never quite seen before.

We mean, come on! Who else could wear this Peter Pilotto skirt with a faux hawk and still look so damn good doing it?

And on a makeup note, check out Rihanna's blue liner – a hot, hot, hot trend for fall!

Peter Pilotto skirt, Sorry, this look is only available across the pond.

Brooke Hogan - VMA StyleFoul!

Brooke Hogan is undoubtedly going through a rough time right now, what with her brother in jail, her parents' public divorce, and her mother going after a 19-year-old. But, we thought maybe, just maybe, she would try extra hard to come across as a classy young lady at the MTV VMAs. You know, to prove she's above it all. But, alas, no.

MTV VMA's Red Carpet Style

Filed under: Events: On the Scene

Michael Buckner is a fashion and celebrity photographer who travels around the world taking pictures on the red carpet. He gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the hottest entertainment industry events.

Britney Spears took home three Moon Men for "Piece of Me" to celebrate the 25th MTV Video Music Awards.

Growing up it was legends like Metallica, Beastie Boys, Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Now the closest thing to rock and roll on that stage is Tokio Hotel and Russel Brand's haircut, which he admits can be mistaken for mental illness. Brand poked fun at the Jonas Brothers "vow of celibacy," for which he later apologized -- but who should be apologizing for their outfits? Who deserves awards for their red carpet ensembles?

Britney Spears in Versace tops the list of best dressed. I've covered her from her glory days to nasty divorce court appearances. It hasn't been the smoothest road, but she's coming out on top.

Check out the gallery of my best dressed and worst dressed.

Style Foul: MTV VMAs 2008

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes, Red Carpet Trends

We rely on rock stars, rappers--and yes, even reality-show regulars--to set trends. It's a responsibility that, we admit, requires some risk.

But with risk does not always come reward. And at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards, we saw more than one example of that.

Here are a few of the valiant red-carpet efforts (and one complete lack thereof, thanks to Fatman Scoop) that we just can't condone:

StyleList Is...Caught in Russell Brand's hair

We're watching: The VMA's
We're wearing: A lot of black and a lot of satin
We're eating: M&Ms, sorted by color or you're fired
We're drinking: Water in glass bottles only at room temperature. And Cristal.
We're thinking: Pink would be really good in West Side Story, but only as that punky girl who wanted to be in the gang probably.
Not over it: The Fingerless Glove's new competitor: The Handless Glove

So that explains it -- Britney's hairdresser quit before VMA performance

Filed under: Hair Care, Celebrities with Style

Britney's hair disaster explainedAfter Britney Spears' crap-tastic performance at the Video Music Awards, the Internets were abuzz with commentary on lazy lip-syncing and that awful glittery bikini. Oddly, most people missed her equally unfortunate hair.

The no-style, flat top, "I've cemented my hair down with 7 cans of hairspray" look was probably the least of Britney's troubles Sunday night -- but that doesn't mean it was good.

Rumor has it that the reason the former pop-star's coiffure was such a resounding disappointment had to do with the man who wasn't styling it. Ken Paves, hairdresser to the stars (and Britney's regular stylist), was scheduled to do the celebrat's hair for the VMAs -- but backed out on the gig. According to a source close to Spears, the singer got snippy when Paves showed up to give her extensions, because she'd requested that his two female assistants do the job (apparently she prefers to be surrounded only be women).

Oh, and the bikini? Turns out costumers had picked out something far less hideous, but Britney insisted on her now infamous wardrobe disaster.

Amazing.

J.Lo's controversial turban

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News

A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about the revival of the turban. To tell you the truth, I really didn't actually think that I would actually see someone wearing a turban in real life.

But given what Jennifer Lopez wore to the VMA's earlier this week, I have to admit that I stand corrected. As you can see from the photograph, J.Lo is sporting a razzle-dazzle turban in a fabric that matches her somewhat matronly-looking dress.

How did it work?

Well, not well. J.Lo dressed like she's undergoing chemo, not emceeing a glamorous awards show. But in her defense, I can't imagine that anyone else could have successfully rocked that look -- except, of course, Joan Collins.

Note to self: Watch VMAs tonight!

Once again, it's time for MTV's annual Video Music Awards show. This year, the star-studded event will take place in New York City at Radio City Music Hall.

While I don't really want to predict who will win the music awards (okay, I think it's going to be Shakira and Wyclef Jean's "Hips Don't Lie"), I do have a few thoughts on who's going to look great on the red carpet and who will not.

My pick for best-dressed?

Christina Aguilera. It kills me to admit this, but C.A. seems to have dropped the skeeze and miraculously cleaned up her act. Although I'm not loving the platinum blond hair, I totally digging her retro outfits -- the femme shoes, the trench coats, the simple dresses. Hopefully, this is a look that is here to stay.

My pick for worst-dressed?

Tara Reid. I know, it's a cheap shot. But who doesn't love being right?

Now don't let me down girls!
