Kate Winslet - Vanity Fair cover prompts retouching rumors

Kate Winslet is one of our most favorite actresses in the world. (Kate, next time you're in San Francisco, lunch is on us. Seriously -- we'll take you for a lobster club at Neiman Marcus that will change your life!) So we're firmly on her side in the "Vanity Fair Photoshop or not" debate.

Annie Leibowitz gives us a live, nude Daniel Radcliffe

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Annie Leibowitz, unbowed by the continuing controversy over the nude (but really, so chaste) Miley Cyrus Vanity Fair photo, is back with more teenage skin shots!

Her latest subject is the exhibitionist Daniel Radcliffe. There are no modesty sheets for Harry Potter, he's ready for full frontal, thanks very much. With a horse. And his Uncle Vernon!

Book Review: "Edward Steichen In High Fashion"

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Product Reviews

Students of photography know that some of the most stunning examples of the craft come from advertising work. Edward Steichen In High Fashion is literally a beautiful illustration of this truth.

Although Steichen might not exactly be a household name, his subjects were. In his distinguished career, which included 15 years as the chief photographer for Vogue and Vanity Fair, he snapped stars like Greta Garbo, Fred Astaire, Gloria Swanson and Charlie Chaplin.

Knox and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt: Fashionable twins

Filed under: Style in the News, Men, Celebrities with Style, Kids and Babies

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were recently named by Vanity Fair as the Best Dressed Couple of 2008, which is pretty impressive since they spent a good portion of this year in hospital gowns.

According to FameCrawler the celebrity couple "beat out Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore and fashion don't Victoria and David Beckham."

Ashton Kutcher? Did Vanity Fair get Punk'd?

Speaking of the Jolie-Pitts, did you know that they had twins? It's true!

The Vanity Fair effect

Filed under: Style in the News

If you have money invested in the stock market, you probably took a beating last month when the market unexpected dropped. Well, according to Jossip -- a Manhattan blog -- there was actually a logical explanation; it was Vanity Fair's fault:

Whenever Vanity Fair breaks a record for ad pages, the stock market crashes immediately afterward, according to a highly scientific study by "Short Takes." Consider: VF's March 2007 Hollywood edition ("Our Biggest Issue Ever!") clocked in at 500 pages. During the week of Feb 26, 2007, the Dow Jones Industrial Average collapsed, from 12,647 to 12,114.

Who says you can't predict the stock market?

Bono to edit Vanity Fair?

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style, Style for a Cause

The latest move in Bono's global campaign to help to Africa isn't quite what you'd expect from a rocker. Instead of throwing awesome concerts or schilling red merchandise, Bono will be the guest editor of Vanity Fair's July issue.

VF's editor Graydon Carter told the New York Times: "Bono will make a different issue about Africa than we would. I think there isn't one editor in the world who would not pay attention if Bono pulled up and said he wanted to edit a magazine." I'm sure he's right on both accounts, and no doubt the issue will be worth checking out.

Of course, the only thing better than a Bono-edited Vanity Fair would be a Bono-edited US Weekly -- and that I would definitely buy.

Mystery solved by chicSherlock

Let's be honest, when it comes to buying jewelry, sometimes it's more valuable to know who to ask than to know it yourself.

If you agree with me, you should check out the new website chicSherlock.com. The brainchild of an ex-Vanity Fair editor, chicSherlock is an online boutique that sells the best bling and baubles from well-known designers and a few fresh faces. What I like about this site is that there isn't anything crappy or tacky for sale on the site. It's just good taste, writ large. I guess that just goes to show you, what you know isn't as important as who you know to ask.

Condi Rice: Fashion icon?

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

She's a concert pianist.
She's the former provost of Stanford University.
She's the Secretary of State.

And now, Condoleeza Rice can add "Style Maven" to her already impressive curriculum vita. Vanity Fair Magazine just announced its annual list of best-dressed people for 2006, and it seems that Madame Secretary made the cut. Rice joins the ranks of other well-dressed media icons like Anderson Cooper, Sofia Coppola and Kayne West.

The magazine praised Condi for her "immaculately groomed" look "with an audacious renegade streak, not to mention her black knee-high dominatrix boots."

Say what you will about her politics, the woman is always well-heeled. Ever since she sported those absolutely fierce leather boots during a meeting with French President Jacques Chirac, she's been on my best-dressed list.
