Get the look: Vena Cava

Filed under: Clothing, Fashion Week, Get the Look

OMG! Designers Lisa Mayock and Sophia Buhai of Vena Cava totally understand us and our weird obsession with Egypt. The one that we liked to keep our little secret – until now! Their collection, which the pair call "Egyptomania," was full of ethnic influence and 70's style. At first glance, all we could think about is Bianca Jagger in all of her 70's glory, when the King Tut craze was at its peak. If she was an "It Girl" today, we think she would definitely be wearing some of the long skirts, transparent tops, and neck pieces that VC showcased.

Though the influences come from decades and centuries ago, the looks were anything but dated. They incorporated some of the week's biggest trends like shimmer, shine, and plunging necklines. We were also absolutely smitten with the long maxi skirts and dresses as well as the soft, dusty colors.

So make like Cleopatra and get the look via our gallery.

Via Spiaga asks Vena Cava to hook-up its footwear

Right after the boys of Proenza Schouler and current designer darling Alexander Wang release images of the chic heels from their upcoming footwear lines, another CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund outfit announces its plan to branch out into accessories:

Via Spiaga has tapped Vena Cava to create a mini capsule footwear collection that will debut on the brand's runway at the Chelsea Art Museum in Manhattan on September 6th. The four different styles of shoes that are going to march down Vena Cava's catwalk will compliment the "designers' "Egyptomania" theme for spring, with muted, sun-bleached colors, strappy sandals and pyramid hardware."

We have never purchased a pair of Via Spiaga shoes, but we're confident the collaboration between the footwear company and Vena Cava will be swoon worthy. Especially if there are a pair of gladiator sandals in this collection.

It's not just a t-shirt, it's a work of art!

Filed under: Stores We Love, Style in the News, Clothing, Style for a Cause

I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm an all-year-round t-shirt loving kind of girl. And with this week's "Fashion Gives Back", a design/charity movement spearheaded by Glamour magazine and six young, all-female design houses, I have more reason than ever to add to my ever-expanding collection of cute tees.

Jenni Kayne, Rachel Roy, Rodarte, Sari Gueron, Thread Social, and Vena Cava will each produce a special, limited edition design to be screened onto a $68 Splendid tee, with each design signed personally by the designer. The shirts will be sold exclusively at Shopbop.com, and 30% of all proceeds will go to the designers' respective charities.

The short descriptive previews of the tees sound super cute, from Sari Gueron's watercolor owl to Jenni Kayne's rough sketch of a Grecian-gowned woman surrounded by poppies. At the very least, you can be sure your top is one of a very few: each designer will only produce 250 tees.
