What to Wear to a Super Bowl Party

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Accessories, Clothing, Style Tip of the Day

Adorable.Fans, you know what to do. Get out your jersey and your jeans (or, where appropriate, tiny cheerleading uniforms). But for those of us with no jerseys, or perhaps just a desire to rise above the norm, here is a guide for what to wear to a Super Bowl party.

The crazy fashions of the Kentucky Derby

Filed under: Accessories, Clothing, Dresses, Celebrities with Style

The Kentucky Derby brings with it so much excitement -- the parties, the betting, the race itself -- but none of that comes close to the excitement of the fashions.

Of course, the hats are the main draw -- from the fabulously funky to the terribly tacky, unique hats (for the men as well as for the ladies) are an absolute must. But one can't get away with wearing only a hat to the Derby. (Seriously. Don't try it.) When it comes to clothing, here's what you can expect:

What to wear on Valentines: Keepin' it casual

Let's say you haven't been dating for very long, and you don't want to come off like a commitment-obsessed psycho by going all out on a super-formal Valentines Day date. So you're keeping it casual. Sounds easy, right?

Sort of. While, chances are, you dress down for most nights grabbing dinner, catching a movie, or just vegging out on the couch, this is still a special occasion -- even if you're both pretending it's not. Make sure your date knows you care by dressing it up a notch. Don't go nuts -- showing up in black tie attire (or a formal gown, or whatever) is likely to make your relatively unfamiliar partner feel really uncomfortable.

Ladies:
  • A little extra attention on the accessories goes a long way. Try a nicer necklace, or even some glitzy earrings.
  • Remember, you're going for a look that's slightly spruced up compared to how you normally dress. So if your everyday style is a ratty t-shirt and sweatpants (God forbid), a pair of jeans and halfway decent top will do the trick.
Guys:
  • Unless you're particularly fashion-forward, look for little ways to show you thought about your appearance before the big (albeit casual) date. No hats, no holes, no beer logos.
  • Shoes are the key -- they can be the difference between slob and sloppy chic. Try a stylish slip-on -- it's inexpensive, effective, and laid back enough for jeans and an untucked shirt.
So give it a shot. With a small amount of forethought, you can help make sure this isn't the last Valentines Day the two of you spend together.

Style tips for the gym

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

We've all seen "that guy" or "that girl" at the local gym. It's that guy, the A.C. Slater look-a-like, who sports the spaghetti-strap tank top to show off those huge biceps. And it's the girl who wears the one-piece leotard underneath the 10-year-old tie-dye shirt.

Even though you shouldn't worry too much about your looks while you're at the gym, at least be respectable!

Here's a few tips to get you on your way:
AskMen.com tips | Women's Tips

Guys, wear a fairly new and clean t-shirt. Trash those shirts with the yellow pit-stains -- it isn't exactly going to attract that cute girl on the treadmill beside you.

Girls, instead of distracting "that guy" with your good looks and low-cut tank top, try simply wearing something comfortable to exercise in -- a fitted t-shirt and yoga pants.

Guys, make sure to only wear tennis shoes to the gym (and clean ones, at that!). It's not symbolic of your manhood to wear cowboy boots or those muddy construction boots ... not to mention it's unsafe.

And girls, the black dress socks with the white tennis shoes will have every person snickering -- go with white or grey socks.
