Four ways to wear wide leg jeans

wide leg jeans sass and bideIf you haven't heard the news yet, wide leg jeans are super "in" for Fall '07. Since it's been a while since we have worn the wide silhouette, Net-a-Porter has a guide on exactly what you should wear with your new wider leg. Now don't get confused because skinny legs are still the number one silhouette for the season, with the straight leg trailing behind. The wide leg is just starting to surface so if you want to be the most stylish girl in your crew, please read on.

To the office:
Depending on what kind of work setting you are in, this look could work everyday or for a casual Friday. Pair your wide leg jeans with a sleek black heel, a crisp white button down shirt with feminine details (like a bow), and top it off with a long khaki colored belted trench. For the accessories, go minimal with a small touch of gold jewelry and a tan bag.

Lunch date: Whether it is lunch with the girls or a casual date with your boyfriend, this look will work for you. Take your dark blue wide leg jeans, a satin blouse, patent leather flats, and a red purse. To add a little more jazz to the outfit add some silver to your wrist with a chunky charm bracelet.

Chilly fall weekend: Just because there is a nip in the air doesn't mean your style has to suffer. Throw on a pair of white wide leg jeans, an over-sized gray sweater, a roomy tote, and round out the look with a pair of round toe Mary Jane's.

Night out on the town:
Jeans are totally appropriate for evening, especially here in L.A. Take a look that could work for day, like a pair of super dark denim wide legs and a boho-inspired top and cinch it close to your body with a body conscious tuxedo jacket. It's not evening without a touch of bling, so make sure you put on your best metallic heels and reflective jewelry.

Ask StyleDash: Kate's wide leg jeans

Filed under: Clothing, Jeans, Celebrities with Style

I was wondering if you knew the designer of the High-waisted ("mom jeans") Kate moss was wearing to the announcement of working with TopShop?

Ah yes, the jeans that started the wide leg trend. Former super-model Kate Moss is wearing a pair of vintage Chloe jeans at the TopShop fashion show. I know ... vintage! I can almost see the disappointment on your face. It's like when you ask the most popular girl in school where she got that killer dress and she says "London" or some other faraway place you don't have access to.

Don't you worry because wide legs jeans are in for Fall and I know you can find another pair that are just as great. Kate Moss' latest obsession in wide leg jeans is J Brand's love story jeans in the ink and the dark vintage wash. They are only $178, which is pretty good for premium denim. Another label to look to is Level 99 jeans, they are very flattering (I have personally tried them) and are under $100.

Magic Fashion 8-ball: Wide-leg jeans

I feel like I should be wearing some sort of a freaky fortune teller's turban right now because I have a fashion prediction.

Ready?

Lindsay Lohan will bring the wide leg denim look into full rotation.

Yep, that's right -- Miss Lohan. Kate Moss rocked them a few months back but her influence wasn't strong enough. The fashion blogs blogged about them, but that wasn't enough. It will be Lindsay covering up her alcohol detection ankle bracelet that does it. Hate her all you want (I love her) she has some major pull when it comes to what we wear. Pictured at right, she has on a pair of adorable wide leg jeans that are speaking to me. They aren't high waisted and retro, nor are they overly flared in an "I am channeling the '90s" style. They are now. They are 2007.

Inspired by Lohan I visited a little shop called Dame in Santa Monica to see if their buyers were onto the trend too. They are. Dame carries Level 99 jeans which are a wide leg pant in a light weight fabric. The pants come in denim, gray, and white. The white were my favorite, made for the perfect effortless summer look. They are fitted around your butt (so important) and have a nice comfortable wide leg. At only $99 you can get more than one pair.

Wide leg pants -- coming back or not?

So, if the 90s are back (and, by all accounts, they are) -- why aren't we seeing the wide-leg pants I remember from junior high?

Some are trying really hard to bring them back -- Gap, for instance, has a number of ultra wide-leg options for fall. Plus, a couple different influential bloggers have championed the move -- noting that everyone can look good in wide-legs, while wearing skinny jeans meant you had to be...well...skinny.

On the other hand, our very own Lauren thinks the new, more colorful skinny jeans will be all the rage or the next couple seasons, and FashionIndie thinks wide-legs make you look like a "90s reject."

So what gives? Personally, I'd love it if wide-legs came back. We can't stop the 90s from coming, and anything is better than those stupid high-waisted "mom jeans" designers keep trying to shove down our throats.

But what do you think?
