Prada Releases a Bluetooth Watch - Awesome Stuff We Don't Need

Prada Link Bluetooth watchWhen it comes to mixing fashion and technology, it appears that designers on both fronts are rushing to team up and blur the lines -- that way they can charge $817 for a device that's probably technologically inferior to the $200 iPhone. One of the products stemming from one of these partnerships is a curious little LG Prada Link wristwatch that communicates via Bluetooth to the new Prada II phone. How cool, sort of.

The classic leather band

Who wears watches these days? If you ask most guys what time it is they'll probably start fumbling around for their cell phone -- but that's weak. Wristwatches are probably the most popular men's jewelry item and they're definitely the coolest. Why not make yourself look smarter -- and maybe a little more affluent -- than you really are? You can get a pretty nice designer watch for less than $50 at places like Ross.

I usually go for the sportier-looking metallic band, but something about this watch from DKNY caught my eye. I actually really like the way the leather band fits into the bezel. Other than that, it does all the normal watch stuff -- keeps the time, date, etc. None of these are as important as looking cool while it sits on your arm.

Styles that Stick: Men's classic wristwatch

Filed under: Accessories, Vintage and Retro, Men

victorinox swiss army mens wristwatchThink about all of the watches you own. Now how often do you wear those watches? Is it because you don't care much for knowing what time it is or that they aren't in style anymore? I know I don't wear my watches because they are out of style. One watch that never goes out of style is a man's classic wristwatch.

There is something very sexy about a woman in men's clothing; you know that "borrowed" or "stayed the night" look. A woman in a man's white shirt is hot and same goes for a woman in a man's wristwatch.

The wristwatch was first introduced in the 1880's when woman tied their pocket watches to their wrists so they could go horseback riding. That DIY trend morphed into the production of wristwatches for women. Men thought wrist watches were too girly so they kept to their pocket watches. Just like a man to dismiss an idea because he thinks it's girly. During World War I the soldier's realized there was something to this whole wristwatch thing.

Today for men, a wristwatch is a status symbol. For women, they just look darn good on us ... plus it was our idea.

Vlaemsch's "Internal Watch" is completely useless

Check out this strange little piece by Vlaemsch. It's a watch that has been completely encased in leather, rendering it absolutely useless. "Perfect for the man with no time," the website says. I guess it's funny... Kind of. It's one of those things that would make me chuckle with appreciation for a few seconds and then abruptly stop. "Dude," I would say. "You could have bought an iPod with that money". Maybe it's just me and my stingy ways, but $275 seems like a bit much to be paying for a little irony in the form of what is essentially a chunky leather wristband.

Swatch brings the voodoo love

Although as Anne pointed out earlier, Swatch watches reached their popularity peak in the 1980s, Swatch is actually alive and well as a brand. Proof of this can be found in Swatch's 2007 Valentine's Day Special, a jelly watch with bright red and black numerals and a red Voodoo doll. The watch comes with it's own Voodoo doll, an arrow with a plastic heart on it and a message card for the doll. According to Time Zone it sells for 65 euros. Swatch has launched a website for the watch with a cool little game that lets you tickle and tease a virtual valentine.

Seven Days of Style: to help you count down

Filed under: Holiday Style, Haute Home, Accessories

seven days of telling timeIt's that time of year when all we do is stare at the clock, waiting for the moment when the big and little hand meet at the top to usher in the New Year. To help you keep pace in style, whether you're sitting comfortably at home in front of the TV or out under the stars on your fourth glass of Champagne, here are seven clocks and watches.

Sunday - For the home, we like to go a little natural, a little high tech. The LED clock is a block of wood with LED lights layered under the veneer. When the clock is on, it glows red. If you're faced with a deadline and don't want to know how close it is, turn the clock off and it's a lovely decorative block of wood. Available for $150 at Uncommon Goods.

Monday - If watches aren't quite your thing -- whether because they're too bulky or get in the way when you're trying to bang out a hundred posts while blogging (oh, that's just me) -- then you might still be able to tell time without having to ask around. The Tempo Time Tag is a tiny little tag that does nothing else but display the time. You can attach it anywhere, so it works to clip onto your shirtsleeves (men), or your handbag (ladies).
