PHILLIPPE STARCK LAUNCHES A CLOTHING BRAND IN SPITE OF HIMSELF
Perhaps best known for his out of the ordinary interior designs and home products, Starck hopes to make the closets of fashionistas, well, stark. The French fabricator, who has referred to fashion as "manipulation," is set to launch a waterproof cashmere line with Scottish company Ballantyne. His pieces are made in hopes that wearers will have no need for trends of the moment.

PLEASE, HAMMER, DON'T HURT EM'
Balenciaga makes a go of the current harem pant trend. This time, they're for men and draw less inspiration from "Aladdin" and more from Japanese hakama trousers.

ANNA WINTOUR PROCLAIMS SEPTEMBER IS THE NEW JANUARY

The trailer for much-hyped "The September Issue," a documentary about creating Vogue's five pound fall magazine is making the rounds in cyberspace. Note to aspiring editors: Anna Wintour deems large font "pretentious" and for "blind people." Interestingly, the film is rated PG-13. Is it the fear factor?

POSH'S BARE BODY IS ILLEGAL IN DUBAI

A Dubai man was sent to the slammer for a month because he wore a Marc Jacobs-designed T-shirt in support of skin cancer research, featuring a nude Victoria Beckham. Posh's lady parts weren't even showing, they're strategically covered by her hands and the words "Protect the skin you're in."

YVES SAINT LAURENT'S RENDITION OF ALICE IN WONDERLAND
Joining the house of Dior and Karl Lagerfeld in the world of cinema, YSL has put out an eight minute film to present its Men's Spring/ Summer 2010 Collection. The black and white movie features young Jules, who finds a hotel key and enters the debaucherous adult world. Don't expect to see much of the clothing line, but the child's Robert DeNiro in "Taxi Driver" impression is bizarrely cute.

Sea of Shoes blogger Jane Aldridge may only be 17, but she's already gained a cult following and created quite a name for herself in the fashion blogosphere.

And now, the Texas high school senior can add "designer" to her college applications -- she's launching a shoe collection in collaboration with Urban Outfitters!

To liven up the school uniform Aldridge wears 5 days a week, she opts for killer shoes, wearing everything from Chanel booties to Margiela clogs. Recently, the Dallas teen went all-out luxe in a pair of YSL cage sandals. Okay, now we're jealous. She's 17!

Quick Hits - YSL 2010 Cruise Collection

Filed under: Style in the News

A look from YSL's Cruise Collection. Courtesy of YSL

For this season's cruise collection, Yves Saint Laurent creative director Stefano Pilati was feeling mollusk-minded.

Nearly every one of his 35-pieces was based on the notion of the shell. Some of the references were obvious such as the mother-of-pearl necklaces and a silk chiffon dress (with cutout shoulders) done in a junonia shell print.

Other tributes were more subtle and figured into the cut and drape of a skirt, such as the jade one seen right. It's meant to embody a shell's circular form and soft, rounded edges.

Beach combers be warned: The clothes don't hit stores until October.

Is this what E.T. would see if he came down for some Reese's Pieces today? The skeletal outline looks pretty ominous, no?

Actually, this is a limited-edition scarf designed by Alexander McQueen in an effort to boost recognition of "HOME," a breathtaking aerial documentary that pleads for a global environmental initiative.

The film "HOME" is being released today (June 5) internationally, with numerous free screenings. It will also air on The National Geographic Channel at 9 pm ET and can be found online at YouTube. Appropriately, it happens to be World Environment Day.

The McQueen scarf, a manipulated representation of the dying Earth morphed into a skull (not your grandmother's silk paisley number, is it?), will be available exclusively at Alexander McQueen boutiques and at alexandermcqueen.com early this month for $285 – but you can pre-order on the site now. Click, click, go, go!

And it's easy to make an impact, just by shopping. Here, a handful of other high-end designers that are getting in on the "HOME" action...
