Desperate Housewives is on a budget

Desperate Housewives, one of the most popular shows on television these days, is feeling the credit crunch too. The wardrobe people are having to limit their spending and save cash in the costume department on set!

I want that! IVY plaid ruffle shirt

Filed under: Daily Obsession, Get the Look

Miley Cyrus performed on the ABC's "Good Morning America" on July 18 in New York's Bryant Park. The pop princess' mini concert was cool but her kick ass combo of cutesy pleated shorts paired with a ruffled button up was even cooler. We here at StyleDash are fans of the contrast between something masculine like plaid which is turned completely fem with the addition of ruffles and soft colors. And the addition of a few bracelets is an excellent option for day.

Kudos to the near perfect ensemble Cyrus. Now just try to keep those clothes on and dry... at least in front of cameras anyway.

Ugly Betty moving to NYC

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style, Daily Obsession

Building a fake New York City in the back lots of LA is expensive and difficult -- not to mention ridiculously unnecessary when there's a perfectly good real NYC only a few thousand miles away. Apparently, Ugly Betty's producers have finally caught on to this revolutionary concept, and insiders say the whole production is headed for the East Coast. No more green screens of New York skylines or LA streets dressed up to look like New York -- next season's Ugly Betty will be shot in the real Gotham.

We're a little confused over why they even started filming the show in LA, except maybe that they didn't expect the show to last 2 seasons, but they were obviously dead wrong. Now that they're looking at the long-term, ABC execs are looking for ways to cut down costs and still get that authentic New York vibe. We think they'll be happy with their decision. New Yorkers Vanessa Williams and Ana Ortiz are probably happy about it too.

Lost style: Kate smells like Cool Water

Filed under: Fragrance, Celebrities with Style

After months of using crappy perfume from the DHARMA Initiative, Evangeline Lilly is finally getting the chance to be associated with a decent fragrance. Cool Water for women announced yesterday that the saucy and mysterious heroine of the ABC's Lost is going to be the face of their upcoming ad campaign, starting this July.

I think this is awesome, because I'm a pretty big Lost fan -- apparently someone at Davidoff Cool Water is too. Last year, they tapped none other than Sawyer himself, Josh Holloway, to promote the cologne. Click here to see a goofy pic of Holloway on Cool Water's website --he's all Sawyered out with wet hair and a couple days of stubble.

Will we get to see Evangeline do any arty nude poses? Or will the ads have a Lost theme? Based on the Holloway campaign, I'm thinking we'll see more Kate wielding a gun or climbing up a tree with shredding guitars rocking in background. That's fine by me, as long they put her in a sexy outfit -- those ragged island clothes aren't very flattering. Here's what Lilly had to say:
"[Cool Water] definitely represents the juxtaposition between purity and sensuality, and there's that sort of fresh newness... On top of it, there's strength that's underneath it all, that is where sensuality comes from--versus just pure sexiness."

Lost style: Ex-Bad Guy

The funny thing about the ex-bad guy is that he was never really a bad person, it's just that his uniform was just the wrong color. He spent a long time trying to forget his days as a torturer interrogator, but sometimes it all comes rushing back. On the island, his hippie hair makes him seem harmless, but don't be fooled -- he can snap you neck with both hands tied behind his back. Literally.

The ex-bad guy lucked out in the crash and found an assortment of tank tops somewhere in the wreckage. He likes the muscle shirt not only because it shows off his fighting physique, but there are no stupid sleeves to get in the way during a life or death situation. As for trousers, this guy was made for cargo pants -- the only pants that offer enough pockets for an ex-Republican Guard officer.

Sayid is a gadget freak and his knowledge of electronics makes him indispensable to the outfit. He's not really a Sharper Image guy, he's more of the Radio Shack type. He's the type that gets excited over things like a nice set of Craftsman tools or a really sharp knife. His motto is: just in case.

Lost style: One Hit Wonder

Ah, the complicated attire of an ex-rock star -- it's a delicate balance of Hot Topic and Urban Outfitters. Your line is mostly t-shirts, jeans, nail polish, and emo bracelets. It sounds simple, but it's trickier than you might think. Each outfit holds subtle clues about the inner demons that might be lingering around from your days on tour.

First, you've got to have a black hoodie for those cold rainy days when you don't have any smack and your withdrawal symptoms are really flaring up. Plus, black hoodies make you look edgier. If you're a has-been from a hard rock band named Drive Shaft, it would just be bad form to look like a normal well-adjusted human being. Most days, a tight fitting graphic tee will do, but other days it's a v-neck, or maybe sleeveless. These are the subtle ways of master t-shirt connoisseur.

Many people on the island have worn holes in their jeans. Charlie, on the other hand, was hurled from the plane with a whole collection of those pre-worn, boot-cut jeans -- kind of an unfortunate choice, because they tear up pretty quick in a survival situation.

Get the Look: Caitlin Dowd, Cashmere Mafia

Filed under: Style in the News

caitlin dowd cashmere mafiaWhat the world needs now, is a new 'Sex and the City' ...

It's pretty much impossible to replicate the power of 'Sex and the City' and it's influence on the fashion world but you can't hate a show for trying. 'Cashmere Mafia' on ABC is one of many shows being called "the next Sex and the City." It certainly has the right ingredients; 4 women in New York City who wear designer fashions -- heck even SATC stylist Patricia Field is the costume designer for the show too.

The show doesn't fill my 'Sex and the City' void completely but there are a few fashionable finds on the program, like this outfit worn by the character Caitlin Dowd.
